Thanks - I tried to keep the chords kind of reflective if you know what I mean. Yeah, creating life is a real eye opener. My 2 are off on their own way far from me and there is nothing I can do to keep them safe and secure other than letting them know that I'm here for them if they need me.

My friend Saba Hasan asked me, and her other friends, to describe love and not one to miss out on a songwriting opportunity I decided to make a song out of it. To me love has many aspects: the love of a parent, a child, a friend and husband or wife. I've tried to capture my thoughts and feelings on love in this song.

After years of working there are some days that it is very tough to get motivated. On those days it seems to me that I get more stuff to do than usual. That is what this song is about and maybe now that I got it off my chest I can get more motivated to knock them out.

This song comes from me helping my wife with her Five Year Plan, a work assignment she had where her supervisor asked her where she wanted to be in 5 years. She had never done anything like that so she asked me for help and since I had done one years ago back in school I helped her. I gave her the basics: 1st - where do you want to be 5 years; 2nd put down what you need to do every quarter of a year or month or whatever period of time you are comfortable with for this type of short term goal setting to get to your goal; 3rd revise your 5 year goal depending on what you plan on doing if your short term goals won’t get there or will go beyond where you want to be. Then I recommended we find a book on the subject with more specifics and suggestions as there are tons written on the subject. As will happen I started examining my own life afterward and my 5 year plan I did so many years ago. That plan helped me knock out my BS degree back in the day but I didn’t do what you’re supposed to do: reevaluate and revise for the next 5 years and the next and so on.  Sorry so long winded but there you have it.

My 9 to 5 life by Jeff Gilpin

February 10th, 2008

Verse 1

[G] [D] [Em] There was a [C]time when I was [G]younger

[G] [D] [Em] A time when my [C]life was so care[D]free

[G] [D] [Em] Then time was [C]all for me to [G]plunder

[G] [D] [Em] Ah but [C]time goes by you [D]see

Verse 2

[G] [D] [Em] All things [C]come to those who [G]wait

[G] [D] [Em] But sometimes they [C]also pass you [D]by

[G] [D] [Em] So living a [C]life filled with [G]hesitate

[G] [D] [Em] Means there’s so much [C]more that you don’t [D]try

Chorus

[C]So I do my [G]time in my [Em]9 to 5 [D]life

[C]Wondering [G]where my life would [D]be

[C]If earlier [G]on I’d [Em]taken the [D]time

[C]Figure out where I [D]wanted life to take [Em]me

Verse 3

[G] [D] [Em] Many people have [C]traveled down the [G]life road

[G] [D] [Em] Only to dis[C]cover the road they’re [D]on

[G] [D] [Em] Isn’t taking them [C]to where they [G]want to go

[G] [D] [Em] They better get [C]off before too [D]long

Verse 4

[G] [D] [Em] Like changing [C]lanes on the [G]interstate

[G] [D] [Em] You will get hurt [C]if you don’t take [D]care

[G] [D] [Em] You cannot get [C]off if there’s no [G]exit

[G] [D] [Em] And watch out for that [C]road to [D]nowhere

Chorus

[C]So I do my [G]time in my [Em]9 to 5 [D]life

[C]Wondering [G]where my life would [D]be

[C]If earlier [G]on I’d [Em]taken the [D]time

[C]Figure out where I [D]wanted life to take [Em]me

Verse 5

[G] [D] [Em] I sometimes wish [C]I had a [G]GPS for life

[G] [D] [Em] That would tell me where I [C]am but not [D]preach

[G] [D] [Em] I’d rather not [C]waste all the [G]time I have

[G] [D] [Em] Going where I [C]haven’t time to [D]reach

Verse 6

[G] [D] [Em] So in 5 10 or [C]20 years I [G]guess I’ll see

[G] [D] [Em] If all of the [C]choices that I’d [D]tried

[G] [D] [Em] Lead me down the [C]road I’d [G]hoped to take

[G] [D] [Em] Or left me stranded [C]thumbing for a [D]ride

Chorus

[C]So I do my [G]time in my [Em]9 to 5 [D]life

[C]Wondering [G]where my life would [D]be

[C]If earlier [G]on I’d [Em]taken the [D]time

[C]Figure out where I [D]wanted life to take [Em]me

My Number One Girl By Jeff Gilpin

February 7, 2008

Verse 1

[Em]There’s so much I’d tell you

[G]But I gotta keep it in

[Em]I don’t dump my problems

[G]On my best friend

But I [A]tell you now

You got to [D]know [D7]

Chorus

You’re my number [Em]one girl

That’s [G]so

It’s to you I [Em]run girl

Don’t you [G]know

Believe me when I [A]tell you

It’s to you I [D]go [D7]

My number [Em]one girl[D]

Verse 2

[Em]Now I don’t tell you stories

[G]About the day I had

Yet you [Em]know when it’s been lousy

[G]Some days go pretty bad

At the end of those [A]day’s

Where I want to [D]go [D7]

Chorus

Is to my number [Em]one girl

That’s [G]so

It’s to you I [Em]run girl

Don’t you [G]know

Believe me when I [A]tell you

It’s to you I [D]go [D7]

My number [Em]one girl[D]

Verse 3

[Em]So on those days I’m acting different

[G]And need you by my side

[Em]Please don’t think I’m being selfish

[G]Or that I have too much pride

It’s just that I’ve been [A]thinking of

And looking forward to [D]you [D7]

Chorus

My number [Em]one girl

That’s [G]so

It’s to you I [Em]run girl

Don’t you [G]know

Believe me when I [A]tell you

It’s to you I [D]go [D7]

My number [A]one girl [D] [Em]

Larry - It's just west of Manassas off I-66 near where Nissan Pavilion's located. Zurf is from our area too up in Leesburg. Yep, it's a great place to work and live...traffic kind of stinks though.

A few months ago I was driving home from work and saw a crescent moon grinning at me from above. I put that away for a night like this when I wanted to reflect on the moon, the sun and the sky. I also thought about the clouds because they too are a big part of the sky I see when I look up. If I ever get lost I can usually figure out at least where I'm nearby looking where the bright spots are reflected in the clouds.

Looking Up By Jeff Gilpin

Intro

[Am] [F] [G]

Verse 1

[Am]At the start of the [F]twilight

Be[G]fore you see the [Am]stars

The [F]sun bids [G]a fare[Am]well

With a flare or a [F]flourish

Or a [G]simple fade to [Am]grey

She [F]dips be[G]yond the [Am]veil

Chorus

[F]Gone like so [C]many [G]days be[C]fore

And [F]yet we know that [C]she’ll come back a[G]gain

To [Am]continue a[F]nother [G]journey cross the [Am]sky

To [F]ever be[G]gin a[Am]gain

Verse 2

Just as darkness [F]falls

[G]Up comes the [Am]moon

To [F]imitate the [G]sun so [Am]bright

Never quite as [F]smooth

Ex[G]cept for when she’s [Am]full

[F]Then she [G]gets it [Am]right

Chorus

[F]Like a younger [C]sister who’s [G]oh so [C]shy

[F]She seems a bit a[C]fraid to show her [G]face

[Am]Usually [F]showing [G]glimpses of a [Am]smile

A[F]mused by the [G]world from [Am]space

Verse 3

On [Am]cloudy days or [F]nights

[G]Clouds try and e[Am]rase

The [F]light out [G]of the [Am]sky

[Am]They cover the [F]day

With [G]shades of [Am]grey

And [F]make our [G]skylight [Am]die

Chorus

[F]Evening clouds [C]reflect the [G]light from the [C]land

But [F]hide the [C]light from far a[G]way

[Am]Showing all man’s [F]colors as [G]best as they [Am]can

Until the [F]Sun begins her [G]journey another [F]day [Am]

Thank you all.

Hey Lena - I was thinking this could be a good song to fill in what other writers would do if they had their way but I kind of need to show how it is played and sung first I guess.

Hey Toney - My son is doing well but very busy. Some people go to Iraq and hope we can build bridges from their culture to the rest of the worlds. My son literally builds bridges for the army there as well as maintaining them as well...kind of ironic. smile

Hey Roger - I think so too...btw, going to try and finish recording the songs I'm working on this weekend but no promises....it is taking a while unfortunately.
