American Pie came on the radio and he cranked it up, parked the Grey Mare, and shut her off with the radio still going.  Dad told me this was one of the longest songs on the radio.  We sat right there until the song was over, and of course Dad was singing it the whole time.  I know all the words, and I always smile and think of that day when I hear it!

I played that song at a Mobile. Alabama bar gig when it first came out. At one time I had all three pages of lyrics memorized.
If we ever get to jam together, we need to do "American Pie".

Quite often, it sounds really spiffy to play the 5 chord of the new key after a verse or bridge and then launch the next verse in the new key.
So if you're playing in the key of C, most times verses will begin and end on C. At the end of a verse at C then change to A (5th chord in D) then D becomes your one (key) chord and you're off to the races playing D,G and A.
I use that technique playing the last two choruses of "Another Saturday Night" by Cat Stephens.
It be lively. :-)

I was riding on the back of my buddy's motorcycle when he decided to take a short cut through a cow pasture. He accelerated to at least 40 MPH through the high grass when he ran over a log that threw us both off. There was one pile of cow crap out there and I landed in it.
My arm was hurt where I landed on it but everybody was laughing too hard at my smeared up clothing to give me any sympathy at all.

"Ain't That A Shame" by Fats Domino was the first I remember and everybody KNEW that was a kickin' tune. It really stood out from the music of the day.

A house painter I used to work with painted his own paint-spattered Ford mini-van.
He sanded it with an electric sander, brushed on a coat of oil based stain kill primer and a coat of high gloss white exterior latex.
Wasn't factory perfect but it looks good if you squint a little.

This is one I have listed to learn eventually. The chorus should sound good with my vocal harmonizer.

DAD (etc) G,A,G,A,G,A,D,A,D,(etc) G,A,G, (etc) watch for the Bm after the word chest,  then G,A,G and D,A,D with an occasional Bm.
Whoops he slipped in a Em there, at 7:09. Listen for it.
I find this song maddeningly monotonous. Nerve wracking!

Thank you, Topdown.
Back in my old days buying a 45 R.P.M. record and wearing it out replaying until all chords were identified was the only way to get the chords right on a new song. Used to take me days to figure one. That last tune took 20 minutes. Never did trust sheet music - especially Beatles tunes. They LIED and listed wrong chords.

You can't get it by listening a thousand times.
You have to play along with the video a thousand times.
Figure out the lyrics and chords - then play along with until you match the rhythm of the arrangement.

As a kid, I had a slow motor bike. This dog three blocks South of my house was the meanest I ever saw. As I struggled up the hill in front of his house the dog easily ran along side of me for a short while, then looked me right in the eye and bit a hole the size of a fifty cent coin out of my ankle.
A few years later, I was walking downhill to the bay by his house. He ran out and bit down on the crotch of my jeans, and looked me straight in the eye. Thank the Lord he only bit down on fabric. I slowly walked backwards until I cleared his property and he let go.
A few years after that I rolled slowly by his house downhill on a faster motorcycle. he came out and ran along with his head close to my right foot. I accelerated gradually until he looked me in the eye. I quickly raised my right foot and stomped his head into the road. He rolled over head over heels three times before he slid to a stop. Sweet!
Last time I passed his house it had burned to the ground. I hope he burned up with it. sad

Make your G with your pinky on the first string third fret. When you change to C leave your pinky right where it was on the first string. Sounds nice.
Play along with the video on u-tube enough times to get yourself doing it right.
