Well we have just moved house and now the dust has settled and the UK government has changed .Ithought I would sit down and write some new material for the band .
Nothings coming and I cant seem to find the motivation . We have a couple of festivals September and October and I would have loved to do some new stuff but it looks like it will be a rehash of the old favourites .

Been trawling through some old vids and found this .
Its some footage of me at the Richmond boat club London with a bunch of my mates from the Power of Soul band. My friend Steve secretly brought a very special guitar for me to play that night, a Fender telecaster which once belonged to Alex Harvey of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band .
I was supposed to play an acoustic set that night but a load of my friends tuned up and wanted electric , This and the rest of the set were completely unrehearsed the guys were great and backed me all night ,real pros .

Post some of your old vids on here as well lets see what we get

Now we all like a nice guitar but some times you just need an old thing you can leave in the car and it doesn't matter if it gets knocked about .
A few weeks ago I found such an item in a local charity shop I picked it up played it and it sounded ok but it had a small hole in the back where either it had had something attached or some one had been playing at being Pete Townsend ,Price tag £5 so why not have a project .I bought a pick up & preamp kit from ebay £ 12 .and a set of Martin strings £6.50 .
I had to cut the side and base of the guitar to accept the pre amp and battery box and cut the bridge to lower the action when the pick up was fitted .I then turned my attention to the hole in the back which I filled with a bit of the wood I had removed from the base , a quick clean and polish ,put the new strings on and its was time to try .
What was it like ? Good ,probably about as good as a squire SA105 costing about £125
So I'm quite pleased with my total investment of £23.50.
I'll try and do a short vid over the week end if I have time

Re: Microphone repair (8 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
How do you handle mic sharing during open mics, considering past health concerns, and what was your experience with repairing and modifying the mic from Lidl using a replacement cartridge?
I prefer people to use their own mic , but I have several mics which I swap between performers and disinfect the windshields between acts , Some places offered a secondary shield to artists . But this practice seems to have become less in the past year .
Re the repair on this mic I had to shorten the cartridge holder to allow the sure cartridge to fit all in all about a 10 min job

First time this has ever happened in over 50 ys .I was booked to play a big charity gig in Blackpool recently , I was last to play and every thing had gone well. Problem with events like this is the limited sound check between acts ,so I decided to play through the events PA and not take my amp . Big mistake.
I plugged into the mixer as I have done at many other venues ,one channel for my guitar the other for my looper which had all my backing recorded on it .
12 bars into the first song the PA shuts down . We try again same problem so I speak to the sound guy who thinks its my gear at fault ,No there is no fault with any of my kit ,I've been doing this too long to run with faulty gear and I'd used every thing the night before anyway .
So he then thinks its the mixer channel so we swap things about change leads etc still the fault is there . He then wants to plug direct into the power amp , still the system shuts down .
So we sack it as his back ground music system works so he finishes with a DJ set . I pack up and go home where I plug everyy thing in to my system .
Guess what ? yeah it all works no problems .
My own conclusion , The power amp may have an input signal limiter which was switched on and the signal from my loop was to high . Had there been more time or if I had taken a big amp then I could have played .Every one understood and audience members came up and said they would have loved to have heard the show . but understood tech problems happens.

My go to mic has for more yeas than I care to remember been the sure sm58
However I have a few "loner " mics for other people when we do open mics etc as I'm not happy to share mine due to getting a bad throat infection at an open mic some years back . Two of theses mics came from lidl of all pleas in a Kareoke set . and they are really good quality well made and have been reliable over the last 15 yrs of use .However one stopped working for no reason so I ordered this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CDCBZJL5? … ct_details from amazon to repair it with . A replacement sm58 cartridge . Now it wasnt a direct swap and I had to modify the original holder to take it which took all of two mins with a dremel tool a quick dab with the soldering iron and its better than new .Clear as a bell . I will have to do a back to back comparison with my Sm58 but to be honest at house hold volume levels I cant hear any difference . Much better than paying 100 pounds for a new 58
