Well marcalan, I am a DOC. And a carpal tunnel syndrome really "sucks". It won't kill you and if you want I can give you names of medication.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO: X-Ray of the fore arm and hand, better: an echography on that wrist, on the spot where the problem is. ECHOGRAPHY = sending ultrasone waves, who reflect and so a doc can see a lot more (it is common when pregnant), I used it a lot to have a more perfect diagnosis. The best placed MD is one who treats your problem, a neuro physiologist, who will (in 99%) measure the electricity of the nerves who are COMPRESSED, and with this approach, you will know a lot more.
Also is the fact that it can maybe help to relieve the pain using medication. Some names: IBUPROFEN, DICLOFENAC, are used a lot here. I apologise if it is difficult to understand, but medication has different names all over the world.
An injection in the wrist with cortico steroids (cortisone) can do miracles. I don't know if you have problems like diabetes (thinking about the infiltration using cortisone.
I am afraid that you need to stop for a while, because everytime you use that hand wrist, it will cause more and more problems. From the moment you play, and you start feeling pain STOP.
Other bad news: sometimes, to prevent your wrist moving, they can put a "plaster"to prevent you from using your hand.
Finally some people need surgery (small intervention) So far the "classic" medical part.
GO  for acupuncture, see a doc there, but I hope that I could help you by giving this information you can go to a doc, and that you are aware of different methods.

GITAARDOCPHIL SAIS: YOU CAN AIL ME IF YOU WANT

Good Morning rebel,
I don't know if you perform in clubs, or if you play alone or with others. Playing alone is on one hand really good, but you play 2x better with another guitar player.
My sister has done the same. But our parents were more difficult on this, you needed to go to school from 12 ---> 17;18 years. So a ballerina has to start following school when 12 years old.
But she reached the "impossible", she was accepted to specialise, and getting this opportunity is like winning the lottery.
You know that you made my day. WHY??
BECAUSE YOU WRITE EXACTLY WHAT I NOTICED: "my play is in about 8 months so improved, as during the last 4 years. ALL CAUSED BY CHORDIE.
Topics: read and write, a lot of songs, and about topics: I never thought this was possible, but reading them, and using the information from others is really amazing, and so I progressed.
See blues scales. I am far from a Satriani or SRV, but I am convinced that I am on a point to start recording or even busking.

I don't want to be a messenger, but I was told, in 2 different guitar stores, that these things, to hang your guitar on the wall, can influence a GIBSON by causing a head stock crack.

dada, the opinions about phish are different, so I agree with you. What I heard is not bad, but is it correct to write that 50% of their songs are covers, like dark side of the moon?

Now and then I see on some sites an electric ovation.
Who has experience with these electric guitars and a possible question that can not be answered, how do they sound, are there other guitars with a imilar sound

GITAARDOCPHIL SAIS: SOME OVATIONS ARE GOOD SOME OTHERS NOT

I can only repeat, this site is beautiful.
I am sometimes too enthousiastic, but that's just me, I start to know a lot of nice people, and I never saw such a thing before. I also admit that CHORDIE keeps me in a matter of speaking "alive". I've had a lot of physical trouble, started to be insecure and questioning a lot of things. Here I find peace, a lot of like minded people.
Also, I surf a lot more to other sites; mainly guitar sites, and sometimes I can overact, but who don't. My purpose has always been, as was my job: helping people, trying to understand people. Although there are a lot of "similar" people, each of us is unique, old doll can write it so nice, about why blend in the crowd.

I am also a "follower" of the fact: IT IS BETTER TO INVEST MORE $$$ IN A REAL GOOD GUITAR FROM A WELKNOWN BRAND.
I purchased some on eBay, had a problem with only 1 guitar: a 1964 Gibson Hummingbird: the top was not flat but ..., this is fixed now, a friend put a very small and light wooden structure inside the guitar to lift the top: plays like a dream. I was blessed in that way that I could spend money for guitars. I think my 2 top investments are: the PRS EG serie (3 different combinations) only made from 1990-1992, except for one: 1994. Search today for such a PRS EG US made, I don't see them anymore.
The second is a Fender Telecaster, custom shop reissue 1952, called California Beach, ugly pistache green and wasn't available in the US. I don't know why, Fender will give you the answer maybe AND the sound: never heard better.
If you buy, because a guitar is something you love and it has to go fast, buy immediately a top guitar, because if you spend 700$ for a "decent" guitar, but NOT your dream guitar, you will regret it and you end up finally avoiding more and more that guitar, asking yourself if..
I said I was lucky, but if you play both, electric and acoustic, I should buy a squier, or an Epiphone Special (199$) sounds real good, you can start and at the same time put some money aside to buy what you want.

GITAARDOCPHIL SAIS: DIFFICULT TOPIC

CO WRITER: 25Frankster and I hope A LOT MORE
Isn't this a nice site? Everybody helps everybody.
There is so much ego on the other guitar sites it seems--everyone trying to be better than the next person, putting each other down, when in my way of thinking, we should be helping eachother out.  Not interested in the "you suck" pre pubescent talk you find on most guitar sites.

The title tells everything.
25frankster and me, have been looking on other guitar sites. READ WHAT FRANKSTER WROTE.
When they chat: most of them want to beat the other.
ME: I learned to be more modest, seeing "HOW MUCH" people have to do to PURCHASE THEIR DREAM INSTRUMENT. I also try to give as much information as I can, and sometimes, I know, it is more a statement than a question.

BUT THIS TOPIC SHOULD BE THE TOPIC OF THE YEAR, HOPING FOR A LOT OF ANSWERS.
WHO R U, HOW OLD YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT THIS SITE.
- I am born in 1955, love playing and collecting guitars. I love chordie very much. No question is stupid, no answer is stupid. Big EGO's, as we had one in the past, are "treated" with the same respect, but there are limits. I have learned a lot, I play 2x better since I am here (I couldn't believe this, but somebody who saw me playing in February saw me again and he said that there was a huge progression) because you see all styles, all chords, and try it out, realy simple.
Respect: yes, for everybody, we have the SAME PURPOSE: playing better.

It is definitely not C/G, the configuration is similar but you put 2 fingers on E & A string in 3th fret and 1 finger on D string 2nd fret, and finally B string 1th fret. It is an unusual chord, a lot of people don't know this combination, but it sounds even more  beautiful if you avoid the last 2 strings, B and E, and try now to go down from 3th fret, same finger position on 2nd fret.
SH** I am giving you all those nice tips that I use quit often "creating" songs. NO, you should really try this.
The other chord: what is similar? you just move your fingers on the 3th fret starting from E string 3th fret and A 3th fret to A 3th fret and D 3th fret, the finger who was on the 2nd fret on the D string has to go to the G-string 2nd and the last finger remains on fret 1 B-string.
The chord described in the topic is the F major chord

Hi upyer, as a PRO, continue these exercises. I lost my voice too, I think I still have this infection, and I should take something.I was a doc in the biggest theatre too, here in Belgium, more, I even played a few times "director" for some scenes, like, when a character died. But they learned me a lot.
I had a special medical "composition" with eucalyptus and more.
Today, you can find these bottles in a drug store, I don't know about other countries, but the name is OLBAS, you can use it PURE, INHALATIONS, and the results were spectacular.
If needed, I can always try to find my "magic" formula back, and mail you the ingredients, and a pharmacist can make them.

The reason here is that about 2-3 years ago the Fender company, has made a telecaster and stratocaster ONLY FOR THE EUROPEAN market.
The serie was named CALIFORNIA BEACH, and the Fenders were in the same colours as the most popular cars back then.
I have a TELECASTER in a "green, pale, not the colour I like" but there was no choice and that Fender Telecaster California Beach, was a reissue of a 1952 telecaster, from the custom shop.
There was also 1 or 2 stratocasters.
My question is: Do they put on the market a custom shop Fender, only for the USA.
What about the fact that a fender telecaster reissue 1952, pistache green is only released in Europe, in limited quantity, including a certificate of authenticity. It sounds silly, because it is at this moment hypothetical, but what about the price, a telecaster lover should give?
Are there Fenders only for the US market, or what is the reason that these custom made reissues are only here in Europe?

GITAARDOCPHIL SAIS: FENDER GUITARS ARE STRANGE AND MYSTERIOUS

Hi fellow chordian 25frankster
Nice to meet you, it is no so hard to find me, because I am a topic man.
Isn't this a nice site? Everybody helps everybody. I had some topics about cheap BUT DECENT & GOOD ELECTRIC & ACOUSTIC guitars.
When I bought my first PRS, a 1993 (so pre-factory) PRS CUSTOM 24 full option. The guitar was second hand, but the original owner took his guitar back to the music store, I think because the group he was playing in stopped playing. I had a lot of luck, being a Generalist MD, and able to afford this because I earned a lot $$ thanks to special medical treatments. That was the start of my guitar collection, right product, right time and affordable.
I owned a Gibson LP studio (for $400) straight from the customs on the airport (friends), she was not more for sale, just because of a few tiny little cracks but it was , a beautiful guitar, for a ridiculous price. PROBLEM she never staid tuned, even after 1 song. At the music store I noticed the PRS, tried it, and I was lost. The store took my Gibson LP for 800$=double than what I paid.
I paid the PRS, went to eat something, returned to the store, where they told me how much luck I had, because in 1 hour there where 3 different people, who had seen the guitar a day before.
If you really want very bad a guitar, don't sleep one night to think, but buy it. Back then, almost nobody here in Belgium knew that brand, and there was one...
About the PRS SE guitars: I am going to put a list here with prices. The SE serie is amazing, but maybe you will get a different sound playing a PRS SE soapbar versus a US soapbar.
I have 1 SE, billy martin (?), and 3 mysterious guitars. He wanted to struggle with Fender 5 years after he started. They are produced from 1990-1992, except 1: ---1994.
FOUND THOSE ON EBAY. Look on ebay, if you like a guitar, go to a store to try it.
The list will follow.

I have a few PRS guitars. The real USA EG serie: to take a piece of fender, but I think they were too soon. I have a strat 1964, and to be honest most of people who hear the sound are unanimous: PRS more specific the EG with 3 domino shape Lindy Fralin coils sounds better.
It"s difficult. They produce these single coils again in Korea.
My best guitar is a custom 24,  an amazing guitar, giving you a gibson, fender sound easy to play and always in tune.
Even the SE serie is strictly controlled and affordable.
Who else loves PRS.

Hi, fellow chordian alansheeran
My "humble" opinion was always, forgive me if I'm wrong that:
1) the USA accent (more North America) is a lot closer to IRISH English, than British English
2) the Irish music is more related to US "folk or C&W music), that's also why I think that the Irish music is at least 75% responsible for the C&W in the USA.
Of course, there are a lot of other influences.
I wrote a topic a few months ago with the subject: influences like "afro american", better "African" music, native american music (but on this nobody gave me an answer, BUT there HAS TO BE AN INFLUENCE by NATIVES like APACHE, SIOUX...??).
In fact I believe that there are a few different kinds of music.
- BLUES, and the evolution to ROCK, if you play a blues song, and you start playing it fast, it looks pretty well like rock & roll.
- COUNTRY & WESTERN: main influence Irish.
- GOSPEL
- A COMBINATION GOSPEL/BLUES is more close to the (wrong term, for me at least) R&B.
African slaves were singing, as a kind of communication, I think, and sometimes you find strange situations, like led belly's : "Black Betty", no guitar, nothing, just using his feet for the rhythm, in a later version: RAM JAM.
I looked to some African music, and I did find similar rhythms so the "blues" are probably a lot older than we think
I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS CORRECT, SO PLEASE FORGIVE ME, AND SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

The topic about Elvis not coming to Europe was not the"correct" one.So here is the new topic.
I know that "colonel" Parker had issues, born in the NETHERLANDS in a city called Breda, distance about 80-100 Kilometres from where I live (+-60 miles).
Named: Andreas Cornelius (Dries) van Kuijk.
I think he only went to the USA at his 18. In fact he was there illegally, but if that should be 100% true, I am convinced they would put him on a plane.
The relation with Elvis, being his "manager" without a contract, just shaking hands, was that Elvis and Parker were like a married couple. Question was: would Elvis be so "HUGE" without him? OR would he be more famous without that "individual"
After the Army period, I have the impression that Elvis didn't perform no longer.
One of the most important reasons is: back from the army, Parker wanted him only to play in movies and they received a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
This occurred after he came back from the army, and QUESTION: Did he perform the years between THE ARMY and the fat kitsch Elvis we all know from Las Vegas.I was not an Elvis fan, but he was a man who was able to sing with an incredible passion in his voice.
The problem is: MOST OF US WILL REMEMBER HIM NOT as the nice looking young he was before and after the Army period, BUT as a corpulent performer dressed as a "clown".
I must say: I love all the Elvis impersonators.
He ended up like I know now: "WHY". Nice young man, going with his savings to the studio in Memphis owned by SAM PHILLIPS (no relation) to record a song for his mother, he loved so much (probably too much), and leaving with his record and the rest is known.
A person unable top say NO, wanted desperately to be loved by everyone, probably thinking a lot if he was good, not sure about himself, and this ARE THE INGREDIENTS to fall in a depression, or start taking all "medical, legal or illegal, to escape reality.

B chord: I take it with 4 fingers one on fret two small E, or barre on 7th fret and using E chord under my barre.
Best site I found, with possibilities to traspose your chord, like A: usually taken on the second fret, but you can do it also in barre on the 5th fret, using again the E chord

I do agree jerome, I am discovering more and more how you can make easy chords difficult.
I play "at this moment" more acoustic, and I play the regular C A D G ..., but your way to play IS ALSO EASIER ON AN ACOUSTIC GUITAR.
Electric: amazing how easy jumping jack flash is, using POWER chords.
I play pretty well, but as always: I am open for everything, and never to old to learn and that is precisely what is so wonderful here on chordie.

Thanks, we never had a phenomenon like the GRATEFUL DEAD, or PHISH. When Garcia (we knew that the grateful dead existed, but that's it) and if you should ask here in Europe something about PHISH, most people would say: WHO???
I know about their existence since 2000-2001, when we had still NAPSTER, and when I was unable to work because of my car accident.
All the countries here (most of them) form EUROPE, this sounds crazy, but what Hitler couldn't realise by loosing WWII, well we start now to be more and more a so called 1 entity, existing by the grace of countries, having or a president or a King.
I am convinced that PHISH or the GRATEFUL DEAD didn't need Europe, and I don't know if they had concerts here, but what I know was that a concert of the DEAD was a huge gathering. I just know one name: JERRY GARCIA, so what was he like? a kind of "mentor" as leader of the DEAD, a guru?

I just saw an article about MODS, but I don't understand a clue.
They are or were often associated with groups like THE WHO, THE KINKS. So far I am right I think, and most of them were born in a higher class, and had a more specific "dress code"  but you had also a movement called ROCKERS, probably with another "hair style".
Has someone an idea about these MODS? Didn't they disappear when the "hippie" culture started to find his way.
A strange fact: when a "movement" like the "HIPPIES" started in the USA, it took about 3 years before it started in Europe (I don't know for Britain.)
I mentioned the WHO and the KINKS but if you listen to "my generation" or "you really got me", I have more the impression that songs like these are (pre-hard)rock songs.
Am I missing something? I mean what kind of culture was this in England, and is there a movement now in 2007, similar to the 60ties?
