up to the early 60's this side of the pond all we had was BBC radio which was run by chinless upper class twits who believed that entertainment was the Black and white minstrel show, based on that guy who sang "mammy" cant remember his name! then some enterprising person or two decided it was time to make some money and please the "younger" generation by starting up commercial radio stations. the aforementioned UCtwits reviled this idea and banned them so they took to the oceans, and sailed up and down the UK just outside the 3 mile limit. the UCT's and the government (one and the same) clamped down on them and made them illegal, but they gifted us with radio 1,2,3 and 4. radio 1 being for us teenagers and the rest for "the more discerning listener" yeah right! we were fed all the "pop and bubblegum music" we could cope with. it wasn't till the likes of John Peel and a few others that we were allowed to listen to "the good stuff" Yes, (early) Genesis, Jethro Tull, Supertramp and of course Led Zeppelin.
i still listen to radio 2 on occasion, especially late at night, during the day we still get fed politics, show music and chat shows.
i was watching a programme with Charlot Church (the singer) today, and i enjoyed listening to what she had to say regarding UCT's (the government) and the people that run everything else, charities and good causes. she also had a lot to say about record executives and producers and plonkers like Simon Cowel who take raw talent and put them through their production line so that they come out sounding just like all the other poor saps that were glad just to get their chance and make a bit of cash. FYI it seems quite a few of them have become TV hosts or make appearances on shows like; Big Brother etc, to me those shows are for has beens that want to make a come back. so sad.

well i've had my rant and now i'm going to bed with a clear heart. nos da

I agree with everything said above. During the sixty's if a band used session musicians it caused big scandal here in the UK anyway. I can recall a big fuss about a song called Winchester Cathedral a full band with horns and stuff that never played on the record??? Don't get me started on the BeachBoys.

One of my all time favourite songs Close to the Edge by Yes, or anything by the Beatles.

Strong indeed. Reading your words has put me in a sombre mood. I've  always thought of the US as the land of milk and honey with the occasional drop of sour cream, your song has made me revise that theory. Please tell me it's not all like that?

So, to lift the mood.... I've missed you buddy, where have you been. Hope you had a good time?

You are indeed evolving into a great writer.

OK Bill, you got me. It was Burton's brother who walked in, I should have read the post through before posting. I wont tell you what I'm really saying under my breath...only kidding!

MKM, bring the kids to Wales we've got castles on almost every corner (gross exaggeration)

Here's a true story; some people I know booked Castell Coch (Red Castle) near Cardiff for their wedding. A few weeks before the date they got phoned by the manager and asked if they'd mind changing the date or cancelling all together and were given a shed full of cash as a thank you. They got bumped for Posh and Becks' wedding. I know some folks that would have waived the cash for an invite...not me of course.

Zurf, I nearly choked when I saw your post... your my hero

Hi Peatle out man, cool. I was there in the60s but not a big fan then. It's only been lately I've got into the Floyd.

The recording was finished a while ago, just haven't posted it yet. Let you know when I've done it.

nice one TF. sorry but the only name i recognised was Alexander Graham Bell!!!!!

the total population of Wales is just 3 million and Llanelli 78,000, yet we have a world renowned rugby team, the highest priced football transfer, many of the greatest singers and actors inc Dame Shirley Bassey. and worst of all; Staus Quo played in Parc y Scarlets last Saturday (the local rugby stadium) and i was totally unaware of it. although i did see them in 197???? something when they first put on their denims and found 3 chords...and they were super.

Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Roald Dahl. I mention this because I grew up with the name Dylan Thomas, but until today I never knew that Mr Dahl was born in Cardiff just 60 miles from me. I am adding up all local celebrities including;

Bonnie Tyler from Swansea, ( I once recorded in the same studio as she recorded her demo of Lost in France, the owner played the track for me and the band!)

Tom Jones, not far from Cardiff (Pontypridd)

Richard Burton, I almost had a heart attack when his brother (who looked the image of him) walked into one of my gigs after he'd died.

Glynis Johns, an actress from the 50's, I was in school with her niece who looked just like her.

There are many more, so, any celebs local to Chordians across the world?

general Brit sayings;

not the brightest spark....

a Welsh one...I ti'yn twp?             frenetically; ee teen twp? meaning; are you stupid?

one i'd heard in High Wycombe for the first time; hold the bus.

the tickling gap....the space between the top of her stockings and the hem of her knickers. cos when you reach there....your laughing!

my 2 oldest sons managed to break just about every ornament in the house, so their favourite saying was...it's OK daddy'll fix it. there was a time i had  a glue to fix most things.

some welsh ones are called for;

my mother once told me; you come home dead and i'll kill you, (not as nasty as it sounds....honest)

if you called someone a "beaut" up what everyone knows as "the valleys" it would be accepted as a term of endearment, 50 miles away (here in llanelli, my home town) it would be an insult!

( a dirty one) ...i wouldn't make love to her with yours and there's nothing wrong with mine (cleaned up version)

don't blame me i wasn't there and if i was i didn't see anything anyway (usually said to coppers)

Is that anything like " dunny?" Which is Ozzy for toilet.

Obviously bonnet and boot mean the same in GB and NZ and Ozzy too, but hood in UK is the roof on a car.
BTW I'd  never put my princess in the boot, like Eric Clapton, she gets her own seat even if I have to leave the wife or one of the kids behind....ha, ha

i am also guilty of "encouragement without help". i feel if i tell someone that an "A" would sound better than an "E" in a certain part of their composition or rephrasing a line would be too much like criticism and i want so much to be loved lol

i wrote a song a few weeks back (i only post songs i think may be relevant to chordians) in a reggae style and quite up-beat. my good friend jim (tigs) wrote to me and suggested a different feel, some minor chords and alternate words. he didn't know how i'd react so he posted to me directly. i must admit i was rather miffed at first but i re-recorded the song and realised that he was right, so thanks jim, you're my hero!

i have always said if anyone should need a little help with a song i am always available and happy to lend whatever help i can.

yes i like your suggestion to make spammers  or new members wait 10 days before posting, what kills that idea is that we sometimes get sneaky spammers that join, find old posts and put something innocuous as a reply, then don't return for a few weeks to add their spam! i wonder if the monty python guys would  have named their song corned beef or something if they'd known?

CONGRATS USA ON A GREAT WIN IN THE 7's.

Jerome, sorry have to correct you, it's not the ref that put the ball in at the scrum it's the centre half of the team that has the advantage if for example the opposing team have made an infringement of some kind. I wont go too deeply into the rules.
As for "forward passing" that's an infringement, as is the off side rule, a player mustn't be ahead of the ball. Big difference with rugby and American rules is to score a "touch down" you have to actually touch the ball down within the score line and the dead ball line, and your hand must be on the ball! When I played 50 years ago, if you  fumbled the ball eg; it bounced or it hit the ground before you touched it, the try wouldn't be allowed. It is still a great game and the bodies on the players now....Greek gods

i missed the opening ceremony and most of saturdays events. though there was a 60 inch TV screen in front of me last night and i tried to concentrate on performing whilst watching the women's rugby. the GB team did so very well, congrats to them. i saw also the pile-ups on the cycling road race, no sound so i don't know how or why. as for TV coverage; it seems the BBC have given over all their channels to the olympics, Ann is so upset that she's missing a lot of her favourite soaps!

i have a lawn but it's full of weeds, moles and slugs. i love to mow it when the rain keeps off for a couple of days ( not many times this summer...but hey-ho)

the words are cleverly written and your singing is just right. go to the top of the class.

i have nt heard this track for a long time and i don't think i've ever heard this "full" version. i have a greatest hits CD but that must include the single version. the single version if you remember had the vocal part on the A side and the instrumental on the B side which faded out after a minute or so.

first thing i noticed (as i listened through headphones) was how much mick fleetwood's drumming style had changed between the 60's and when "rumours" came out.

nice choice bill, thanks
