Is that anything like " dunny?" Which is Ozzy for toilet.
Obviously bonnet and boot mean the same in GB and NZ and Ozzy too, but hood in UK is the roof on a car.
BTW I'd never put my princess in the boot, like Eric Clapton, she gets her own seat even if I have to leave the wife or one of the kids behind....ha, ha
i am also guilty of "encouragement without help". i feel if i tell someone that an "A" would sound better than an "E" in a certain part of their composition or rephrasing a line would be too much like criticism and i want so much to be loved
i wrote a song a few weeks back (i only post songs i think may be relevant to chordians) in a reggae style and quite up-beat. my good friend jim (tigs) wrote to me and suggested a different feel, some minor chords and alternate words. he didn't know how i'd react so he posted to me directly. i must admit i was rather miffed at first but i re-recorded the song and realised that he was right, so thanks jim, you're my hero!
i have always said if anyone should need a little help with a song i am always available and happy to lend whatever help i can.
yes i like your suggestion to make spammers or new members wait 10 days before posting, what kills that idea is that we sometimes get sneaky spammers that join, find old posts and put something innocuous as a reply, then don't return for a few weeks to add their spam! i wonder if the monty python guys would have named their song corned beef or something if they'd known?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE JOE, have a cracker of a day (and night!!!!)
CONGRATS USA ON A GREAT WIN IN THE 7's.
Jerome, sorry have to correct you, it's not the ref that put the ball in at the scrum it's the centre half of the team that has the advantage if for example the opposing team have made an infringement of some kind. I wont go too deeply into the rules.
As for "forward passing" that's an infringement, as is the off side rule, a player mustn't be ahead of the ball. Big difference with rugby and American rules is to score a "touch down" you have to actually touch the ball down within the score line and the dead ball line, and your hand must be on the ball! When I played 50 years ago, if you fumbled the ball eg; it bounced or it hit the ground before you touched it, the try wouldn't be allowed. It is still a great game and the bodies on the players now....Greek gods
i missed the opening ceremony and most of saturdays events. though there was a 60 inch TV screen in front of me last night and i tried to concentrate on performing whilst watching the women's rugby. the GB team did so very well, congrats to them. i saw also the pile-ups on the cycling road race, no sound so i don't know how or why. as for TV coverage; it seems the BBC have given over all their channels to the olympics, Ann is so upset that she's missing a lot of her favourite soaps!
enjoyed the recording and the song is top notch.
you wrote this about me didn't you?
i have a lawn but it's full of weeds, moles and slugs. i love to mow it when the rain keeps off for a couple of days ( not many times this summer...but hey-ho)
the words are cleverly written and your singing is just right. go to the top of the class.
you have come up trumps again tony, enjoyed it.
i have nt heard this track for a long time and i don't think i've ever heard this "full" version. i have a greatest hits CD but that must include the single version. the single version if you remember had the vocal part on the A side and the instrumental on the B side which faded out after a minute or so.
first thing i noticed (as i listened through headphones) was how much mick fleetwood's drumming style had changed between the 60's and when "rumours" came out.
nice choice bill, thanks
i met ann about 37 years ago (best move i ever made!) her father was a very clever man, taught himself electrics and electronics as well as the trumpet and after he retired the organ. he played trumpet in a local band to put himself through college and by retirement was head of department at swansea university. so...we travelled all around south wales to find him a decent organ as his plan was to learn to play it then entertain at the old folks homes of which there are lots locally. unfortunately he passed on before realising his dream, which is a great shame.
in my time i've played at several OFHs one regularly, and when i asked the boss of one "why do you want me back so often they must be sick of the same old songs?" he replied; "don't worry, they wont remember what songs you've done anyway!" he was joking of course? they do seem to love what i do, mainly 60's with a few 50's thrown in for good measure, i try and do mostly up tempo and they dance and sing along. i find the crumblies have more energy than youngsters.
well done Doug and thanks for getting Bill back on line and in the fold.
i know how traumatic it can be when your trusted and beloved PC logs out for the last time, mine was an XP and held all my recording and recordings stuff, i had to buy a new one which wouldn't run those programs, then the win10 upgrade almost sent me up the wall.
so the PC's dead....long live the PC
come on now....the US held it's own pretty well in the world cup. anyway with rugby it's a good match rather than the win
mekidsmom wrote:Have you tried buttering the other side of the case?

wish i'd thought of that
i love toast, burnt, not burnt, plenty of butter or just full of humour like the video. got to say, this is the only rap song i like
fingers crossed, i'm with you guys all the way. i'm also rooting for the all blacks too (don't want to alienate anyone)
i wish i could do that but my man-cave does not allow for spacing everything out, i have to stack stuff on top of each other then put them on something else till it's their turn to go into the car. a place for everything and everything in it's place....til they have to be moved.
a lot of metaphor in there i think. sounds to me like a break-up song, maybe wrong? but the words flow together so well and they're carefully chosen i think. well done cant wait till you feel well enough to record it.
you know how toast always lands butter side down when you drop it? it seems the same thing happens if your guitar gets knocked over!
i was loading the car up saturday night when i bumped the guitar case and of-course it landed string side down and i realised that every time that's happened it will always land that way. anybody else noticed that?
ps, it played ok so no damage, there surely is a place in heaven for whoever invented the hard case
well, thank you all. i thought i'd kept that a secret? yes 65 and still kicking. my birthday was saturday and (for a change) i had a local gig, but still only 2 pints. now sunday was a different matter! the family took me to my local (after sunday lunch....of course) i didn't quite get to the state of being carried home, just guided and steadied! my beer belly has extended several inches and fosters (lager) made a rather large profit that day.
loved the guitar birthday cake, it took me a few minutes to realise what it was, realistic
thanks again
phill
I'd heard a lot of Stratocasters so decided that's what I wanted. I played one in the shop, but I play lefty so had to order my guitar sight unseen. When it arrived I had to take it...big mistake! I spent the next 30 years trying to get it to sound the way I wanted. I failed. I played with band members who bought cheap copies but they sounded so much better than mine. Lesson learnt I won't buy any guitar on mail order regardless of maker or how much cheaper they may be. I must have tried hundreds of guitars till I found the one. I knew it as soon as it was put in my hands. Hope you find your one and you have a long and happy life together. Enjoy your concert and let us know how it went.
I think Irish1 may want the same treatment we gave jazz, I'm not inclined to do that....read the thread and ask advice or on your bike.
Hey yourself and see how you like it( semi quote from Hitchcock film) this android thing is a pain in the Mars. Lol
nice to see that there is someone else out there still doing "i saw her standing there" my version is a lot quicker. keep us informed and keep the vids coming.
all the beatles early recordings were with flat wounds. when i started playing around '66 round wounds were coming into favour. i tried flats once and hated them as they lost their tone very quickly. but i loved and still love the chunky sound on those early beatles tracks.
