You wouldn't happen to know Herb  Westcott by any chance ? He is a tree farmer there.

on a side note - just noticed Doug that you are from Western Oregon.  My daughters in-laws live in Philomath - is that anywhere near where you are ?

Marshel
Welcome to the Chordie family !

This is one great group - support from all over the world - in many different facets including music !

Here's to a wonderful recovery and a jettison back to your playing days of the  strings without fear or pain.
Hope to hear you playing soon.

I've never had CTS- never want it - but certainly have great  empathy for your situation. Be strong- be resilient, be confident !

best wishes - and welcome again - very glad to have a new member!

I have revised the lyrics somewhat.  Here is a link to this song on my songbook where it is in CHOPRO format - easier to see and play.

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/?url= … ranspose=0

I will attempt to put a new recording out on soundcloud soon.  I tried to play it faster and shorten the time, but it just can't be done (at least by me)  and still get the emotional effect. Sorry -it's just a longer song. smile

S'mores are Graham crackers with roasted marshmallows and dark chocolate pieces melted in between. A campfire standard  for American kids
I ended up re writing this and took that part out anyways. smile    You can see above  I revised this a bit after I played it through a bunch of times. (Some lyrical changes)

Thanks for the comments

I cannot tell you how hard this was to write.    I have walked away from this about 10 times..... but I think i have finally finished it.  (It's a bit long, but I don't really care  smile  )

For those  who are older and have seen their kids grow up - I think it may hit home. For those who still have children (or Grandchildren) in their home... I hope it rings true for you.    (I hope you like it. smile

[song]

{t:  Last Time}

[G]We all take for granted our priceless time upon this earth
seems we [C] get too busy,  and  forget  what it's[G]  worth
[G] we expect precious moments, each day like the day before,
but when we [D]learn it's  the last time, it leaves us [C] cryin' out  for [G]more

Chorus 1

Oh,  things like
[D]singing to your baby when its [C] time for them to [G]nap
or [D]reading them their favorite book ,while [C] sitting on your [G]lap
[C] marking up the kitchen  wall , to [G] see how much they've grown
or [D] sitting on their bed at night,  cuz it's  [C]too dark to be [G]alone

yeah [G]there's a last time for everything, but you hardly  know when
things you've[C] done a hundred times before, but will [G]never do again
see [G] tomorrow changes everything , it   always comes too  fast
and those [D]yesterdays, they fade away,  how I [C]wish that  they would [G] last

Chorus 2

Oh things like
[D] putting bubbles in bath water, and [C]helping to tie their [G]shoes
[D]Singing wheels on the bus,  and [C] counting two  by [G] two
[C]Sitting on the 'ol  front porch [G]  trying to name the stars
And [D]playing tag or hide n' seek, building[C] snowmen in the[G] yard

[G] tomorrow isn't  promised , who knows what the future holds
Oh those [C] winds of change are blowing, with  di[G]rection seldom known
those [G]loving times  together, may  never come again
Today [D]might be your last chance, since [C] only  God knows [G] when

Chorus 3

Oh  things like
[D] Laughing  at a silly joke, catching  [C] fireflies at [G]night
Or [D]campfires with a guitar, singing [C] songs that sound just [G]right
[C]Telling little secrets  making [G] sand  castles at the shore
Or [D]trying to  be the last to say "I [C] love you even [G]more"

[G]be sure to say all the  words,   you’ve  always hoped  to say
if to[C] morrow never comes, have  no re[G]grets about today.
The next [G]shared moment   may be the last that you get
so make it [D] really something special, one   you [C]never will for[G]get

Chorus 4

just like
[D]sharing an ice cream cone , or [C] playing make be[G]lieve
[D]Running through a sprinkler , or [C]jumping through some [G]leaves
[C]Walking barefoot in the grass , see  an [G] angel  on a cloud
Putting  [D] band aids on  little scrapes, and [C] laughing really [G] loud

yeah [G]there's a last time for everything, but you hardly ever know when
things you've [C] done a hundred times before, but will [G]never do again
see [G] tomorrow changes everything ,and  it  always comes too  fast
and those [D]yesterdays, they fade away,  how I [C]wish that  they would [G]last
those [D]yesterdays, they fade away,  how I [C]wish that  they would [G]last
those [D]yesterdays, they fade away,  how I [C]wish I could  make them [G]last  (fade out )

I love the rhythm of this song a lot. It has that sitting on the beach feel.
Wish I could play as well.

Good one Brian!!

NIce one Russell - However, I would have to learn how to play like you though before it would be a beneficial product for me to invest in.
As of right now my guitar talent level would be at the bread machine amp that TF posted earlier today in JJJ's retirement thread ! smile

Nice playing man, and beautiful little toy !!

Thanks  Jan!

I appreciate the kind and on point feedback feedback.

it's difficult for me to voice songs because I 'm not much of a singer.
I appreciate that you took the time to give them a listen give me valuable commentary.
Hope all is well down under as begin to switch our seasons.

OMG- I did the same thing this week end - I was trying to learn  Uncle Kracker's Follow Me,  and every dang time I'd try to play it without looking at the chords on paper, right  in the middle of it I ended up playing the chorus of Drift Away by Dobie Gray.

I think my old brain cells that long ago got immersed in alcohol keep pushing back to re-emerge at their own chosen time   smile

Great getting older ain't it ? smile   wink

Sad news it is --- but as Jim Morrison said in his autobiography .....

"Happens to everybody. Nobody gets out of life alive."

(Although the  line "No one gets out of here alive"   is from his song Five to One )

Chuck was a game changer in the music industry, not only for his musical genius - but in terms of racial progress as well.
RIP  CHUCK !

TF - THANK YOU   I try smile

Jan - with apologies - here is a new version smile

Phill - I don't know what a waltz goes like - but I know this isn't it ! smile  However - what you said got me thinking - and so I put a new spin on it with different chords - a couple of minor lyric changes and came up with this.

I like it better than the first version.   Jan - I promise I won't change it any more smile  !!!

This is the link to soundcloud for it - I also posted new chords and lyrics there.

OK  I don't get it.

If I have strings that are on my guitar that I have had for two years, and I play probably at lest 1/2 hour to an hour every day - but they are still perfectly in tune, why do I need to change them ?  Or even if I played four hours a day - but they are still in tune - why change ?

What am I missing here ?   Remember that I am not a guitarist per say - so be gentle ! smile

Phill and Jan

Thank you for feedback.

Phill- If I actually knew how to write a waltz maybe it could sound like one. smile  I think they are 3/4 time or something, but I don't know how that would go chord wise.
and Yep - pretty much all of my songs revolve around emotion or a story to tell.
Jan-  Lol -  Just when I think I have it - something new pops in my head - hence the changes - until finally I like it or give up smile I'm glad that you tried it .

Both of you ( or anyone else)  - love to hear your version of it someday , if you have the time.

after two days of snow ( 43" in total) it's back to work!

Thanks again!
Jim
