I had a couple of friends when I was 11 or 12 who had guitars and they played a little. That got me interested. My first one was a Silvertone archtop. Real pretty guitar. Wish I still had it. I piddled around over the years, and also went 20 or more years in between playing. I finally got a little more sreious after I retired and spend much more time at it. Practice is good.

I have the package. What a great idea. It is fun to look through it. I kept a couple of picks and added several more. I enjoyed some of the music. I think Aquacash5 is next. If you want it, send me your address via the email at the bottom of my post. The one attached to chordie is incorrect. If I don't hear from you in a few days I will send it to anyone else who puts their name in the hat.

I have turned around a little on what I want now. I really like the HD-28 better. I'm pretty sure thast's what I'll be getting. It just sounds better than the Gibson to me. My Martin Custom D is a very simple looking, no frills guitar with a satin finish. I love it, but now I want a nice shiny, glossy Hd-28 sunburst. It'll still be a few months before I get it, so I keep dreaming. It's fun to dream.

One I always mention when this question arises is another Springsteen tune called, "If I should Fall Behind" When my daughter heard me play this she made me play it at her wedding..

Never give up. Learning the guitar is an experience that is well worth it. As everyone says, your fingers will get better with time. A little practice every day should do it. Good luck.

Re: Help with cords (15 replies, posted in Music theory)
Learning your open chords with your last three fingers is the way to go. I didn't do that all these years and it makes it very difficult to do barre chords. If you learn it that way from the beginniong, you will be that much further ahead.
