hi TF. thanks for that, did a couple of gigs the weekend and apart from the top E going flat (which I've come to expect over the years) she's playing well.

I have to get one thing straight; I've never owned a BeeGees album. never seen "Saturday Night Fever" and if there had been anything else more interesting on TV at the time, I would have been watching that.

The jar I saved (at the cost of a couple of small dents to the Tele) was one of a pair we had bought in Turkey 10 years ago, so if it had broken, I don't think the wife would have actually killed me, but I would probably have wished to be dead. She gave me a little verbal over the guitar, I never mentioned the jar! It is made of marble and goes with the clock, fruit bowl and fruit and fire place and hearth. So you see why I saved the jar?

with the exception of a woman buying clothes, it's only a muso that could say it's been a "good day" after spending all that cash!

glad you're happy with your purchases. still waiting for the vid showing off the sound of the new axe?

after hearing Jets and Beamers latest offering, it reminded me of a song I wrote in 2001, called Maggie Coulter. I cant remember if I posted it before, but I was never satisfied with the recording, so I've re-done it on 24 track and posted it to my-space. I'd like comments if anyone fancies having a listen. Thanks.

Phill.

PS if you'd like to see the words and chords please say.

well slick, there are 474,000+ members, maybe that would have something to do with it?

seriously though, we are all experiencing the same thing. hang on in there.

hi beamer. no i meant no harm and i suppose the word vagrant is more commonly used these days but alcohol never entered my thoughts. Maggie Coulter wasn't a drinker. a lot of people were made homeless over here during and after WW2, and that's when my song was set.

it's nice to hear a story of true compassion and Christian charity.

and some of his money too huh?

reading beamers story i got the impression that thomas was a hobo? what we'd call a tramp which reminded me of a song i wrote a few years ago called "maggie coulter" a story i'd made up but ran along the same lines, an old woman who walked the roads with the intention of getting to a place called st. Davids, which is on the west coast of Wales. but she only manages to get to Cardiff (about 100 miles away) where she freezes to death. i hadnt thought about Maggie for a while so thanks for that.

i see alot of thought went into this. reading between the lines i think there's more than a little angst coming out here?

nice one, and nice to see you giving the poets an offering.

dino, i guess the lesson there would be, if it aint broke, dont fix it. no idea who said that but it's true.

babio, welcome to chordie.
i've been living and learning for almost 50 years. and just living for 12 years before that. you never stop learning i find new stuff all the time, chord sequences, note progressions, but dropping your baby is a lesson i'll never forget.

Z, no it wasn't a bet, there was nothing else on TV.

rog. it was one of their last concerts i'm afraid. robin gibb? he of the natural tremolo voice?

gander, i normally find that guitars without character last longer. like my strat that i haven't played for years, i'll never get rid of it!

jeff. if there is a song there, it'll be a weepy.

beamer. my car is 5 years old. 20,000 miles on the clock (the average per year in the UK is 12,000 miles) and it's still running on the same tyres as when it came out of the shop. i was hoping i could work the same care on the tele.

thanks to all for your concern. phill x

remember it's only too late if the wife's in bed with a bad mood and a hot temper.

thanks beamer, mine is a Hewlet Packard 250 gig, which doesn't work too good with Windows 7, so i guess i will format it and use it on the LP.

thanks for Ccleaner, put it on the PC & LT both say thanks they feel much healthier now.

see it is true; chordians do help each other

i decided to change the strings on my telecaster tonight (which was well over due) in the living room while watching a BeeGees concert on TV. i somehow managed to knock one of my wife's favourite ornaments off the mantelpiece but managed to catch it before it hit the marble hearth. but i dropped the tele in the process....screech!!! i saved myself several months of nagging about her ornament, but have now got two small dents in my otherwise unblemished tele. luckily there is no damage to the arm and the tuning harmonics are good, so hopefully i got away with it.

lesson here is; don't change your strings while watching the Beegees

hi guys, Ccleaner...noted, i'll look for it when i get out of here. i already have an external HD, i use it on my PC, but i dont really need it there. prob is it has a recording prog on it that only works on XP, which i dont have any more, or likely to get in the future but i'm still hoping someone will come up with a compatibility prog...not going to happen i dont think...may just format and get a new one for the PC!

when i followed your link all i got was the walmart site with glass bowls and PS3 or something? FYI walmart is called ASDA in the UK.

thanks for the info

the bevvy sisters eh? so who's the transvestite playing bass?

right it's actually; (verse) D-Bm-G-D|-D-Bm-Em- A| D-Bm-G-D|-D-Bm-G-D|| including CHorus

bridge is; F#m-Bm-F#m-Bm-F#m-Bm-(cant remember how many times now...sorry) Em-A.

when you said chorus you meant bridge, that's what confused me. hope this helps.

i know what you mean though, i don't think i could handle life without my lady. she gives me a hard time now and then, but it's the loving moments i remember

i know how you feel. i've been using a lap top for about 6 years. the first was that old it was on XP! i up-graded to a used vista 3 years ago without any real problems. i use the lap top and a mini disc player in my stage act, alternating between each so i dont get any embarrassing gaps.

the lady i bought it from has trashed 4 new lap tops in the mean time, so i thought i was doing well. till tonight!

last night i had a 6 hour gig, half hour on half hour off, the lap top was running all that time so when i went to start up tonight it gave me the blue screen! i tried everything i could think of. eventually i got it into "safe mode" then did a "restore" and took it back a month. thank god it's now working (i hope) and some stuff i lost a week ago is back. so fingers crossed. the other option was to delete the whole hard drive which would mean losing all my backing tracks. then re-recording the lot. i think i'd retire first.

hope you can get it back up and running soon.

as far as i can make it out, the singer/guitarist is using a capo on 2nd frett and playing a C-Am-F-C. actual chords are D-Bm-G-D. the chord progression remains the same all the way through.

I was looking through some old files when I came across this poem from 2007. I cant remember if I've posted it before, so here it is...

A SMALL STORY          BY PHILL WILLIAMS

IN A VERY SMALL HOUSE IN A VERY SMALL TOWN
LIVED A VERY SMALL MAN AND HIS NAME WAS BROWN

THE STREET WAS SMALL AND HIS DOG WAS SMALL
BUT THE MAN NEXT DOOR WAS VERY, VERY TALL

“MY NAME IS ED”, THE TALL MAN SAID
“BUT MY HOUSE IS SMALL, SO I BUMP MY HEAD”

“WELL THAT’S A SHAME, MY NAME IS BROWN
IF I CAN HELP, I WONT LET YOU DOWN”

“WELL, THAT’S VERY KIND, MR BROWN”, SAID ED
“I NEED SOME HELP TO CARRY THIS BED…

THE STAIRS ARE STEEP AND THE BED IS LONG
BUT IF YOU HELP I’LL SING A SONG”

AND SO ED AND BROWN BECAME BIG FRIENDS
IN THE LITTLE STREET IN A LITTLE TOWN
WHERE ED SINGS SONGS FOR MR BROWN

IN A LITTLE GARDEN IN THE SUMMER SUN
THEY SIT AND TALK AND SING THEIR SONGS

AND THEIR WIVES ARE HAPPY TO SEE THE FRIENDS
AS THEY CHAT ACROSS THE GARDEN FENCE

ED HAS A SON, BROWN HAS ONE TOO
AND THEY PLAY TOGETHER, AS CHILDREN DO

NOW ED LIKES HIS HOME THAT IS SO SMALL
HE STILL BANGS HIS HEAD AS HE WALKS THROUGH THE DOOR

AND BROWN IS SETTLED WITH HIS WIFE AND CHILD
AND HIS FRIEND NEXT DOOR IN THE LITTLE TOWN

A SMALL STORY BY PHILL WILLIAMS 01/03/2007
