i have a peavy bandit 112, it's not big but heavy...to be honest i dont want to buy any more equipment, but if i could find an amp that would give me the same power and sound i might be tempted.

my first amy was a selmer 5 watt, which gave great distortion but was still quiet even in my bedroom and never gave a clear sound even at minimum volume so would never do in a concert environment.

i've also done the marshall half stack and several other less than satisfactory boxes.

i once played through a fender amp....very impressed, but that was a biggie.

for my-self, i can only say that if i like the sound of a guitar played by someone else then i might go try it out. then it's down to how it feels in my hands. the last two guitars i bought were just like that, once i picked them up i knew i would buy them. it's like when you know you've met your soul mate, love at first sight? who knows?

your general and i are in total agreement. just one question; how the hell do they get us poor saps to kill and be killed for them?

as a brit, i guess i'm an outsider to that. but i do sympathize with the viet-nam vets. we've all seen movies about vets coming home to find their jobs have gone and being treated as out-siders. it's disgusting and disgraceful, and your government should be ashamed of themselves for allowing, even encouraging this garbage. it makes you wonder if there is any glory in serving your country? you only have to see reports of british soldiers coming home from afghanistan crippled or maimed and how they are treated by our government. at the end of the day you have to ask yourself why they send our lads to die in someone else's fight? is it really for humanitarian issues? or just for the oil and other minerals that might be buried underground?

just a little tip for the Brits out there.

i went into my local Lidl shop today and found a 6 metre guitar lead marked down to 50 pence! i had bought one last year and i think they were about £6 or so, this one must have been left over so i got lucky. the one i bought last year is working great by the way, so well worth getting a spare.

yeah Top, my wife has one of those "dishwashing" thingies....it's called Phill tongue

I actually thought about superglue but I wasn't sure if it might cause blood poisoning? but if you guys have survived it then it must be OK...?

superglue is also good for strengthening nails if you're finger picking! I sliced a couple of nails last week while cutting the Sunday joint, dab of glue and wallah...I cut my middle finger, so it cant be rested like your pinky might.

i was being a good boy and earning brownie points by washing the dishes after dinner. all of a sudden i felt a sharp pain in my middle finger. when i looked i had a shard of glass sticking out of my finger and when i pulled it out the blood squirted everywhere,
(i seem to have quite a bit of it)

my wife panicked a little and stuck a bandage on it to stop me getting blood everywhere.

and so i came to check my emails and peruse chordie, as is my want. so as an hour had passed i took off the bandage to find the bleeding had stopped. so i picked up my guitar and just as i got a good riff going i noticed the blood all over the strings! so as i'm gigging on saturday i thought i'd better stop and give the cut time to heal, as i wont be able to play with a sticking plaster on, and no one wants to see a guitarist bleeding all over the stage? do they?

we've all done it so let's hear your stories

4 fender amps? that's just showing off! no wonder you're always having trouble understanding what i'm saying...LOLOLOLOL.

about this book thing....you've done music, movies, song writing, chess, it seems to me that writing a book is a natural progression. or are you keeping that for your old age?

hi there fireman, welcome.

as far as theory goes, i know nothing. i can read music a bit so i've always played guitar by the seat of my pants, then i've learned what little i know of piano the same way, and computers come to that.

by the way, i've been gigging since 1970, with what little i know, so there you go!

i do have a good knowledge of chords and i know where all the notes are on keyboard and guitar, that helps.

i'm glad you pointed out which one you are as i'd never have guessed. i used to have hair once too, and i was in a hard rock band, if i remember correctly we were called Enchiriadis, then i joined a band called Sylvester. then an assortment of cabaret bands (i dont wish to recall) and a C/W duo called Bodene and Steele...ah! those were the days......i'll have a rummage around to see if i can find any old photo's .

hi russ, this is the recorder i've been drooling over for the last few months. i've finally got the wife to agree (in principle) to me getting one in (hopefully) june. they sound brill, lets hope they perform to expectations. they're about £635 in the UK, but i've found a site that sells them for £520 give or take. they come with a 2 gig card and transformer...roll on june

sounds like you've got the arrangement sorted in your head? i usually find it's harder to transpose that to your fingertips!! ha, ha.

ps, i'm all ears buddy

yeah russ, i've listened a couple of times and i cant make my mind up. it could make a good country song with a few tweeks and a bit of acoustic guitar and bass. it's not really what i've become accustomed to with your music; sweet and mellow? i like the chord structure something you always excel in.

i guess i'm not used to russ harding the lovey-dovey composer!!!

please note; russ and i are always straight with one another, there is no offense or criticism meant and we only want the best results from our work.

russ i'm only next door if you want anything, by next door i meant on the next continent, there's only a half second time lag.

it's rough but with great potential

hi russ, congrats on the piano. my yamaha has an XG section which gives the original sounds plus tweeks! it also has a split keyboard and dual sounds too. as i've said before i've had it for 5 or 6 years and the midi out is shot, due to moving it about and pulling the connector in and out too much, so be careful of that. there's a whole world to explore in that keyboard, so my advice is to try everything.

oh pete, and dino, when i got my first piano, i just transferred guitar chords using triads (three finger notes) eg; chord of C would be C-E-G. etc. you can add 6ths, 7ths,9ths etc as you like, as a fourth note, left hand plays the bass root. all you need now is rhythm

i carry a small box with my spare picks in. i've also got a large box with leads, spare set of strings, duct tape (for covering trailing speaker leads etc) extension leads, FX pedals, mics, mini discs, electrical tape, mini screw drivers and the feet for my mic stand.

i dont carry wire cutters as i never cut the strings short until they've had a day or two to stretch in. i clean and polish when i change a whole set.

i bought a qwik tune tuner, very good does the job. when i bought my boss me50 it had an on-board tuner. there were slight discrepancies between tuners....later when i got my digitech vocalist, i found it also had a tuner which deviated from the ME50 also! the digitech is a voice processor so needs the guitar to be in tune with it's internals, so i now use that on stage and it's an easy fix while your half way through a song.

hey pete, in may we will be celebrating our 33 rd anniversary. and she still tells me that i fold towels the wrong way??? if i vacuum, it's guaranteed that i left a piece of fluff under a chair, i'm sure she leaves traps for me so she check after i've done a job to see if i moved chairs, tables, curtains even rugs!

luckily though, she likes me playing the guitar, mainly because it's our main income now.

all the time. i gig regularly so to fill in the sound i often play; eg, Em for G. it gives a 6th sound. Bm7 over a G sounds like Gmajor 7th. experiment with your guitar, ioften hit a chord or note by accident to find a nicer sound.

i remember hearing an interview with Mike Rutherford of Genesis talking about the making of We Cant Dance CD, where he says; "as we were jamming to write the music, we never said this is D and that's an F. we didnt realize we were playing different chords until we finished the album." or words to that effect. so i guess the lesson here is: if it sounds right, it is right

i'm 61, bought my first guitar at 14, began learning to play it at around 18 ( to impress the girls)

i believe that everyone should buy a rubbish acoustic first, cos if you can play that, expensive (easy to play) electrics will be even easier as your fingers will be stronger and more able to reach those hard to play chords, like B's and Dbm6
