benidorm was hot the first week then cold and wet the second! just like the beer, so not a total loss.....

did a bit of karaoke, just to keep the tonsils in form.

any plans to update "so hard"?

the more you play your strings, the more sweat and dirt collects on them. eventually they lose tone and you cant slide up (or down) the strings so easily. as stated above, they may lose tune and eventually break, though even new strings can  break form over tuning or strumming too hard.

fact is; if you need to ask, then they need changing.

i always think that good guitar players just know more tricks than bad or fair ones.

i played "albatross" last week and a guy asked me to play at his birthday bash (for money) as long as i played it at least 4 times....

whether i'm good or bad depends on my mood, how much plactise i've got in lately and if my fingers are tired, or stiff (i'm getting old). i played "black magic woman" one night and got compared to santana! next night i played it like a cat walking across piano strings! go figure?

i bought my first guitar when i was 15, i'm now almost 60, so i've picked up a few tricks. i think i'm a very good rhythm player, and a fair to middling lead player....i get my moments!

hi 3chord,

i play a lot of pubs and clubs locally and have done for around 30 years. i dont get nerves before or during a show, but when i'm getting close to the venue i tend to start to bust for a pee! embarassing huh?

on stage i just close my eyes and try to look and sound proffessional...now that's difficult

i played in a band with a "real" drummer, i was on bass, and kept getting my fingers rapped during a song for roaming too much and going out of time! he never missed a beat while he was bruising my fingers though...little *%¬><#@!!!!

i dont use a metronome for practise or writing, but mostly for recording my own stuff. trouble is you cant hide your roamings and out of times when you use one. and you cant use half notes for dramatic effect as the M/N keeps constant time so you tend to come back in off beat!

hi tony,

i think your vocals are pretty good actually, pink floyd meets eric clapton. i wonder how it would sound if you re-recorded it now?

thanks to you all, the piano version was put up last year or the year before, i think? roger did a version which took it to another level for me with a fuller sound.

i am a big beatles fan, but it never occurred to me that it was beatlesk!!! (if that's the correct spelling) it was just a childhood memory of me getting into trouble and my older cousin helping me out of it! it's strange that it came out as a girl song, i used to use my sisters dolls as target practice for my darts!

thanks again for listening

this argument will go on regardless of any concensus we may make here. i believe there is a new derivative called "skunk" which is addictive and causes agressive behavior.

we as musicians are all bundled into the same barrel...to the non artistic we are all drug users. i for one am not! they say the beatles were at their most inventive when "high" which makes me sad. i wonder how they managed after their flirtation with contraband ended?

hi, just to say that i've recorded a new version of "broken doll" and it can be heard on my-space and sound click. it's quite different from the original as that was done on piano, this is on guitar and i've changed some of the chords.

please have a listen and let me know your thoughts on it?

thanks

i dont smoke, never have and believe that smoking ordinary or the suped-up stuff, is antisocial and dangerous! to the smoker and/or the inocent bystander.

my oldest son began smoking "weed" on a regular basis, and went totally off the rails. even now 10 years later, he cant maintain a relationship, he suspects his partners of playing around, he just loses his rag at the slightest thing and is very agressive yet so insecure unless he has a drink. now i believe he has a drink problem which has led to liver problems.

he has also experimented with other stuff, stopping short of heroin! he is clean now but the effects have remained.

my advice....stay well away.

the strongest drug i have tried is paracetamol, two at a time every 4 hours (as recomended) and then only till the headache passes.  i'm a good boy

so glad there's an up-side....terry wogan...really?

the worst thing my wife makes me do is watch "come dine with me", from australia....not quite as bad as eurovision, but a close second!

i have not watched or been interested in this farce for many years, but i heard one important point on the devils radio today which is that the song that won it last year for germany, words by an american, music by a dutch person (i think)  and sung by a german girl (possibly!).

a previous spanish winner was called "y viva espana" which was neither written or sung by a spaniard. you'd think the basic rule would be to enter a song written and performed by nationals of the country entering it?

confused???

as an up-date (scuse da pun?) the lady in question is apparently 51. and i agree with dino, my lady is nearly 60 (like me) and she is a real kick-ass chick!

as a PS, it's our 30th wedding anniversary monday the 9th (tomorrow) and still madly in love (and lust!)

good luck to macca, if i decide to put a band together he can play bass and backing vocals, but dont try and convert me to rabbit food....

hi blackwolf and welcome to chordie and the poem section.

wow, you started off with a cracking theme here, thoughts of the kinks "lola" came to mind, not that it resembles it in any way. it would make a good song i think, hope you can find a melody that is as good as your words. dont forget, there are lots of helping hands here if you get stuck.

well done

i like my acoustic with a pick-up built in as it's a pain mic-ing up for recording. colour matters naught. my Crafter is wired and has a cutaway, it plays sweetly and i love it!

my Telecaster is not the colour i would have chosen, but the feel and the weight in my hands was just right. i also have a Fender Strat and F90 acoustic (au naturale) which i never play any more (cos of the previous two i mentioned) my Wilson bass is ancient but still plays OK, and my 12 string is also good but gets played only seldomly.

in effect, what i'm saying is; if it feels good, play it, if it sounds good, play it. if it dont feel right, leave it in the shop. or if you have it already...sell it

thanks steelstrings, your on chordie, help is always at hand...just ask

hi tony, agreed about my-space, i'll see if i've still got the password for soundclick as i've lost a lot of stuff. and i shall up-load there for the forseeable...hopefully.
glad you liked it, it is basically a three track recording... i did the vocal and guitar together, then bass and piano as an afterthought. i made the mistake of not putting a click track on, so i lost time here and there.
