in absolutely no preferential order... but a highly varied selection:

Taylor Swift
Rascal Flatts
Hawkwind
Steve Hillage
Led Zeppelin
Rolling Stones
Miley Cyrus (both as herself and in Hannah Montana mode)
Neil Diamond
David Bowie
Pink Floyd

Happy Birthday, some simple singalong carols, some simple children's songs (ten green bottles, wheels on the bus etc.)

I'm a bit worried by the implication I should be able to pull off several styles... I'm pretty sure BB King only plays his own blues... and a lot of other big name artists only play their own styles...

when I'm going in and out of barre chords, I've learned a different set of fingerings for the normal chords that would be those I use for barre minus the first finger. The first is kept ready to barre with when sliding up the neck

thumb schmumb...  far too many resources tell you to put it at the back of the neck, yet everybody playing steel strung guitars in videos, on stage or on telly has it round up the top... the only ones I do see keeping it behind the neck are playing a different instrument, the classical guitar... which has a wider neck... why this obsession from teachers to keep the thumb behind the neck beats me...

Go with mekidsmom's advice regarding Chordpro.  That will give you the lyrics and chords without the table, which is what's causing your problems.

The only problem you may come across is when you transpose a song in regular Chordie view, the Chordpro version will still be in the original key.  To solve this problem, cut and paste the song into the window on this site    link removed   which is an automatic transposer.  Then, after going through the motions to transpose the song, cut and paste the final version into MS Word.

something very weird happens when I click that link...

I get the following:

Red Eye was pwned you !

I suppose strictly speaking, I don't actually use Fast-Fret, but my own mix applied using an old Fast-Fret stick... smile

anyway, if it's good enough for this guy (Snail's Pace Slim of "The Hamsters") He refills his stick using WD-40!!!

http://www.thehamsters.co.uk/equipment/misc.php

then it's good enough for me...

mind you, I'd rather use a proprietary blend on an expensive guitar cos then you have someone to blame... YMMV

I saw a Radiohead video and they were waxing the strings any input on this. I have been using lemon oil on the fretboard. This is a new guitar Martin DX1, which is the last guitar I'll get. My wife won't let me have an eletrical guitar, because that means buying an amp and then some pedales and then a bigger amp and then another band and them band practices and then a bigger amp and then egos break-up the band. LOL been there done that!!

good gracious... who wears the trousers in your household then? wink

An electric solid body or thinline can be practiced with quietly using a headphone amp and headphones... try and sell that aspect on her.

anyway, back on topic, I use fast fret and refill the pad on the stick using light mineral oil (sewing machine oil, thinner than 3-in-1) and white spirit to carry it into the pad. If you look at the ingredients for fast fret, you'll find that it's mineral oil anyway. I keep two pads, one in use and one soaking in.

welcome to the site...

yeah, they do go out of tune fast when new... and high default nuts cause them to play sharp, but if yours came with nylgut strings, then I'm expecting it to be a pretty decent Uke and not a Mahalo or other equivalent "starter" Uke.

Not that I've got much wrong with Mahalos, but you have to ensure you get the ones with geared tuners and not the friction pegs... geared tuners are far easier to tune and more stable when playing...

Of course, some of us go the cheezy route with good effect....I usually play my cigar-box resonator guitar (about 25 bucks total plus a couple weeks of labor) through my Danelectro "Honeytone" amp.  (about 20 bucks).

Sounds good to me....

All depends what you're after.

were there any plans for that cigar box resonator? on line howto guide?

that ain't actually my guitar, just an image I found of the same headstock... smile

Guitars from Wal~Mart in a cardboard box. I saw one the other day. A purple on white "Hannah Montana" acoustic. $70. A granddad type tossed it into the back of a pickup truck. (25 degrees outside.) I'd estimate $55 worth of Hannah Montana and at most $15 worth of cheap labor, shipping, handling, and parts. Go figure.

I got my grand daughter the Hannah Montana electric guitar for her birthday... it's made by a reputable brand... same as the acoustic you can find on sale now.

Washburn... not exactly a cheap and nasty brand...

electric (telecaster style)

I also have done a complete setup on the guitar myself, it wasn't that far out.

got hers for the bargain price of £49.99...

She has a reputation to hold up with her fans and she isn't putting her name on cheap and nasty guitars...

her first endorsement was with Daisy Rock and those guitars are hard to find now...

The Open D with the little finger fretting the G on the first string is usually referred to as a Dsuss4... ie there is no third being played so it's neither major or minor...

My take on D add G is that you fret the G on the fat 6th string along with the normal D and allow the finger that's fretting the G to mute the A string so it doesn't sound although you can let it play without any dischord...

same with the DaddF#, you have to ensure you mute the A string but can get away with it

personally, I would have notated it as a D/G and the other one as a D/F#

but some people really freak out at the prospect of slash chords

South East England just got paralysed by a couple of inches of snow...

can a bassist and his gear fit in the vocalist's car?

no, the vocalist's car is full with just the microphone, stand and towel...

funny how there's always room to squeeze a vocalist in to a bassists car though...

can you include me in the hat please as well

I always try to play in G... then I have easier B minor barre chords and a nice easy F#dim

if the song isn't in an easy key, then I capo to get to playing easier shaped chords... the transpose feature is very helpful for this

that's why a lot of country artists use a capo on two or three... means they can stick to using easy chords

If a song has a weird key and awkward chords, you'll probably find that it's really played with a capo when you check it out on youtube.

actually, that's not a bad looking pickup... wonder what it sounds like? probably far better than what I'm currently using which is basically a microphone masquerading as a single coil...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skytronic-173-6 … 20-8733226

it's definitely a microphone as it picks up my voice even with the strings muted and it also works with nylon strings on my classical guitar!!

I've added that to my wish list... smile

problem for me out here in the sticks in UK is it's very difficult to get my hands on one to actually try before buying...

so I'd have to buy sight unseen and hope for a sensible returns policy, or else dedicate a day to traveling in to a big city to try one out.

I'm running 1280 x 1024 on an LCD screen that does 1280x1024... I ain't messing with my resolution any more... the fonts are tiny enough as it is... the problem is the page... the five popular songs box is fixed width. It needs to expand to fit the content or else the entire top "banner" needs to expand downwards to ensure the popular songs box remains inside the "banner"

I have the same problem over here using Firefox on Linux... the box giving the five popular songs lies over the upper row of chord boxes. It's worse when the names of the songs are long as the song names wrap and push the bottom of the box further down.

it's the box that's produced by this bit in the HTML:

<div id="mostpopularsong">
       <span class="boxtitle">5 popular songs</span>
<div class="popularitem small">
<a class="songname" href="/chord.pere/getsome.org/guitar/olga/chordpro/d/Dire.Straits/SultanOfSwing.chopro" title="Guitar Chords and Tabs for SULTANS OF SWING">SULTANS OF SWING</a><br/>

<span class="artistname">
<a class="popularartistname" href="/song.php/songartist/Dire+Straits/index.html"\>Dire Straits</a></span>
</div>

und so weider for four more entries...

then </div>
