Topic: Exchange by Mike Pennington

This is something I put together after reading some stuff on the Web about adoption.
It led me to think about the plight of the mother of the child put up for adoption, of which I was one
There is an awful lot said about the children looking for their natural parents but not much from the perspective of the mother.

ExchangeMike Pennington

[C]Five weeks old that's all I know,

[Dm]Except I'll never see him grow,

[G]Into a toddler, or schoolboy small,

[F]Will he be dark, will he be tall?

[C]In my heart and soul it is not goodbye,

[F]Because I'II be with [G]him till the [C]day I die.

Because today is the day, he is gone from me,

As an adoption form I did agree,

To never see, or even hear,

From baby again, they made it clear.

[C]In my heart and soul it is not goodbye,

[F]Because I'll be with [G]him till the [C]day I die.

'You must have a photo,' sister said,

As she swept towards my silent bed.

Then wrenching him from my forlorn arms,

A guardian angel his spirit embalms.

[C]In my heart and soul it is not goodbye,

[F]Because I'll be with [G]him till the [C]day I die.

I try to utter a last goodbye,

The only sound is a voiceless cry.

Now looking shyly at his little feet,

His new mother, he goes to meet.

[C]In my heart and soul it is not goodbye,

[F]Because I'll be with [G]him till the [C]day I die.

[C]In my heart and soul it is not goodbye,

[F]Because I'll be with [G]him till the [C]day I die.

Re: Exchange by Mike Pennington

Hello, Mike
I have taken the liberty of editing your post to make it "all purdy like".  I hope I got the chord placements correct.

You can click on the 'edit' button to the bottom right of your song to see how the secret coding works.  Please fix any mistakes I might have made.

You have certainly addressed a difficult subject in this song - I wish that adoption were not necessary, but it is certainly a blessing for people hoping to welcome a child into their hearts.  I have great respect for the new mothers who have the courage to make such a difficult decision.

I was stunned to learn a few years ago that Joni Mitchell had made this difficult decision when she was young.  The revelation that she had given a baby girl to adoption brought great insight into the poignancy of her many love songs.

Good song - I hope I have not offended you by editing your work to make it look 'all purdy like'.

Re: Exchange by Mike Pennington

Hi guys,
Sorry about that. The site the song is on is using Quick Time to play the song. It maybe worth just going to the site itself  http://unitedireland.tripod.com/

Hope that helps

Re: Exchange by Mike Pennington

Thanks for your kind words guys.
I'll have to own up and say the video was put together by a friend of mine, Martin Dardis, form Dublin Ireland who put the piece on his site for me and as I say put the video together.

Re: Exchange by Mike Pennington

Excellent!  Lots of feeling in your singing and playing.  I really enjoyed this Mike!

Art and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
What constitutes excellent music is in the ears of the listener.
