Topic: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

Here is another satirical little twanger. This is dedicated to anyone who has recently divorced a no-talent loser, had a baby, and shaved their head . . . (Britney - call me!)
[SONG]
{t:Big Celebrity Rehab}
{c:by; James McCormick, February 23, 2007}

I'm [D]goin' down in spirals, yes I've [G]done some stupid stuff
I [A]guess I'm self destructive, and I [G]just can't get e-[A7]nough
But my [D]silly psycho-drama will [G]soon be at an end . . .
'Coz [A]Hollywood is on the line, an invi-[G]tation to ex-[A7]tend
{soc}
[G]Big celebrity rehab is [D]beckoning to me
[G]Spelling out my name in lights for [A]all the world to see
Just [D]send the limo over, noti-[G]fy the paparazzi
'Coz [A]Big Celebrity Rehab is [G]where I'm gonna [A7]be . . .
{eoc}
My [D]family says I'm lazy, [G]selfish and unreal
But [A]they cannot identify with [G]how I really [A7]feel
These [D]people they just don't under-[G]stand me in the least . . .
It [A]is so very hard to be a [G]sensitive ar-[A7]tiste
{soc}
[G]Big celebrity rehab is [D]beckoning to me
[G]Spelling out my name in lights for [A]all the world to see
Just [D]send the limo over, noti-[G]fy the paparazzi
'Coz [A]Big Celebrity Rehab is [G]where I need to [A7]be . . .
{eoc}
I [D]get advice all the time from [G]family and friends
[A]Tellin' me what I should do and [G]how and where and [A7]when
But [D]everything they tell me involves [G]work and discipline . . .
But [A]all I really truly need is a [G]rehab vaca-[A7]tion
{soc}
[G]Everything will cool at ce-[D]lebrity rehab
They'll [G]cater to my every need and [A]tell me I ain't bad
I [D]promise I'll do what they say [G]get myself all well
But I [A]gotta go to where they know I [G]am so spe-[A7]cial . . .
{eoc}
[D]Everyone who knows me says that [G]I am just a slob
They [A]say I need to find a life and [G]get myself a [A7]job
[D]Everyone who knows me thinks I [G]should be just like them . . .
But [A]after I'm discovered, they'll brag, "[G]Hey, I knew him [A7]when"
{soc}
[G]Big celebrity rehab is [D]just the place for me
[G]Schmoozing there with all the babes in [A]group therapy
My [D]case it is so special there [G]prob'ly is no cure . . .
But I'd [A]like to try it anyway [G]just to know for [D]sure.

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

Oh James,

What have you done? My friend Pete, yes the one that cavorts about on www.bigcharliepotatohead.com and I wrote the song about has seen this. He is convinced that you wrote especially for him and wants to record it. I do have a little grace as he is going away tomorrow until Friday but he has taken the words to learn and it looks like the weekend is judgement day. I should add that Peter's voice ought to carry a government health warning, the last song he recorded for his friends was so bad that they would not accept his CD. He even offered people money to take it but to no avail. Perhaps he should have offered it to airports as a bird scarer, but no it would probably have cracked the runway!

Igor is threatening to leave and I will not suffer this on my own. If it is recorded I will send you a copy James and post in MySpace which will probably cause an international incident.

Seriously this is another fine offering from you James I have no idea how you find the time to write all these songs and hold down a full time job as well.

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

Roger, I am honored that your chum Pete feels my song is speaking to his soul! By all means let him make a recording of this ditty. If the song touches his heart then he will give it that certain special feel (no matter what his singing voice might be like).

How do I write songs and work full time? First, I don't waste time staring at television. Also, I have gotten good at thinking about lyrics while I am doing mundane tasks. And mainly, I set aside time everyday to chip away at ideas in progress.

A very wise and accomplished visual artist once told me he only was good at his art because, "I work on it when I feel like it, and I work on it when I don't feel like it!"

I have taken that wisdom to heart - so I "do" some songwriting daily. Not every day yields results, but because I do it daily I am getting better (I hope) at finding and using ideas for songs.

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

Hi James,

I have read your comments about song writing and they make perfect sense, like learning to play a musical instrument or learning anything new it takes time and that often repeated cliché of practice, practice and even more practice. I think nothing of devoting an hour to practicing my guitar each day but had never thought of applying the same disipline to writing songs. I write only when the inspiration takes me. So lesson learnt, I will put time aside daily for songwriting and hope to improve.

Thanks

Roger

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

I wrote this song and posted it here almost a year ago.
Decided to record it today because my wife was watching a show called 'Celebrity Rehab' . . .
I remember when MTV actually showed music videos.

So I dredged it up from the vaults, created a 'raw & flawed' recording, and put it up on my MySpace Music page.

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

Good song. Very good song. I reckon a sped-up Punk version would sound good, what do you think? hmm
I always have trouble with the rythm for songs posted here, it always seems completely different to whoever posted it... lol

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

hi james there's nothing like doing it every day i can't fault you on that,i do it when ever i get the inspiration for it ,lovely song ....stay cool

love is life ,life is for love,keep a true heart and live life to the full....stay cool

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

Thanks, daddycool & Tibernius!

A sped-up punk version of this song would be very cool . . . I used a sort of bouncy, sing-song melody but a punk treatment would be great. For that matter, a hip-hop treatment might even work!

Tibernius, part of the fun of the Songwriting forum is seeing original creations in their 'raw' form. Tempo, melody, rhythms and other elements are left up to the player. As a song writer, I find it exercises my creative urges to see and play stuff that other contributors post.

There really is no right or wrong way to play these compositions - just have at it and experiment with different treatments. I see any song as a pile of raw materials that can be assembled in many different ways.

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

Great James,

This recording lark is becoming second nature to you now. You will soon have to open a second MySpace to be able to keep them on for a while lol

Re: "Big Celebrity Rehab"

Love the BIG CELEBRITY REHAB song . I cant write songs ( I can think of two lines then it goes blank) . That one you done is the sort i would love to be able to do . Cynical , funny stuff - nice one !.

any resemblance to my songs sounding anything like the original is highly unlikely.
