Topic: I

This is a bit of a bittersweet folk song about our times. So many hard working people come to my country to try and make it and for most of the people who live here already there is not a lot of respect given when in my opinion there really should be a ton. Anyway I hope you all like it. I’ll try and get it recorded and up soon.

I’m a Weary Traveler By Jeff Gilpin

September 21, 2014

[Bm]I’m a weary [A]traveler

My [G]journey [A]far from [Bm]done

I come from a far off [A]place

Too [G]dangerous for [A]me to be[Bm]long

I’m [A]heading to the [D]land I’ve heard

Where [G]I can stake my [A]claim

And [Bm]never worry [A]any more

So [G]that’s the [A]land where I [Bm]aim

I’ve survived many [A]hardships

[G]Barely es[A]caped with my [Bm]life

Throughout my perilous [A]journeys

I [G]valued [A]every re[Bm]spite

I’ve [A]come to know my [D]traveling friends

[G]Fear and anxie[A]ty

[Bm]Saved my life far too [A]many time

[G]Always will be [A]traveling with [Bm]me

Solo on verse chords

Bridge

[F#]I dream waking [Bm]to the day

[G]My journey comes to an [A]end

[Bm]But for now I’m [A]traveling on

[G]With my [A]traveling [Bm]friends

[Bm]Far off in the [A]future

I [G]see that land of [A]prosperi[Bm]ty

Where hard work pays and I’ll work [A]hard all the days

[G]Living in the [A]land of the [Bm]free

Where I [A]know I’ll be res[D]pected

And [G]valued by one and [A]all

Where [Bm]everyone is [A]equal

In the [G]land where [A]I heard the [Bm]call …and [A]why

[Bm]I’m a weary [A]traveler

My [G]journey [A]far from [Bm]done

I come from a far off [A]place

Too [G]dangerous for [A]me to be[Bm]long

I’m [A]heading to the [D]land I’ve heard

Where [G]I can stake my [A]claim

And [Bm]never worry [A]any more

So [G]that’s the [A]land where I [Bm]aim

Re: I

Wonderful lyrics, jets! You know, every song seems to have a season, and the melancholy nature of the music and the plaintive words and singing in this song perfectly match the coming fall. Also, I enjoyed playing along.

Re: I

Thanks Artie. Glad you enjoyed it.

Re: I

having read through your words it kinda reminded me of wagon trains and the land rush, i read your header after reading the song, i shall give it a listen ASAP.

very nice jeff, yep, still think it's a pioneering song though, things cant have changed that much in 200 years, eh? big_smile

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: I

I can see how it might fit the pioneering song mold; however, I wrote it for the new pioneers who are not quite as welcomed these days as they were in days of yore. I know back there in those days the immigrants had a tough time getting to there dream destination. Hard to say if it is tougher now.
