Topic: Chipping Away

My original idea of this song was to make it about getting over problem that seem hard to overcome (still a good idea that I may use later) but I changed it as I was writing it to a song about using creative outlets like we all use with music here on the Songwriting Forum. I got to thinking what the world would be like if everyone would use art (instead of violence) in what ever form they chose to express their feelings to the world. That is a world I would dearly love to see.

Re: Chipping Away

Hello Jeff,

Wonderful sentiment and a great song. Violence only achieves destruction and chaos whereas creativity achieves beauty and peace.

Thank you,

Roger

I do believe if we change our thoughts to happy ones! we can change our world! Not always easy, but! we must try!

Why Blend in with the Crowd ? When you were made to stand out !

Re: Chipping Away

Jeff, I think you just composed the theme song for chordie!

I've noticed that creative types (be they musicians or artists or writers or whatever) have a manner of quiet confidence and infectious good humor.  Being in touch with one's creative spirit is very beneficial.

For me, music and songwriting is my refuge and a source of childish excitement.
Great song!  James

Re: Chipping Away

Thanks Slán/Old Doll and James - Thanks very much. I originally started writing this song about comparing sculpting and/or carving to problem solving because lots of time people just have work away at in slowly at or chip away a problem instead of trying to solve it all in one setting. As I was writing the song though I saw a better song take shape (kind of another form of chipping away I guess) about how people should be using artistic creative expression as a creative outlet and stress reliever. It kind of falls into my let's make the world better not worse category which I have one or two but I do like this one as well and I'm thinking of recording it. I just need a place to put it now. I've been thinking of opening another page in Myspace just for my over flow because I feel really bad about taking a song down.

Re: Chipping Away

Hi Jeff,
I agree with the sentiments of your song. Violence begets  violence always  has.
I’m not sure if all people can express their personalities through an art form though.
Its food for thought .
Nice one.

Ark

Re: Chipping Away

hey Ark - I truly beileve everyone has a creative outlet that can be (sometimes) discribed as art of one form or another. The trick is finding it and that's not always easy. Remember I didn't even find my outlet of playing the guitar and writing songs until I was well over 40. Also nobody can find it unless they look for it. Just my opinion.
