Topic: Finally Home -Blues Version Changed title to Never Saw It Coming

Well I deleted the other version and changed it to a 12 bar blues style song  Made a bunch of lyric changes as well- I'm pretty happy with it now.

Never Saw it Coming By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

[E]just two kids from a back road town

[E]always together [E7] hanging around

We [A]played it cool, tried to keep it real

but we [E]never guessed what fate would deal

yeah, [B7]we played it cool, tried to keep it real

we never[A] knew what [B7] the devil could [E]steal

.

[E]Football dreams and fast car nights

[E]drive-in movies 'til the [E7]morning light

best [A] friends forever, through thick and thin

and then [E]Nam happened, that was a sin

yeah [B7]friends forever, through thick and thin

then [A]Nam happened, and I [B7]never saw him [E]again

.

Chorus 1

.

[A]I never saw that coming, took me by surprise

oh I [E] never saw it coming, really opened my eyes

I[A] never saw it coming —the heartbreak and truth

But I’d [B7]live it all again my [A]friend, just for [E]you

.

Verse 2

.

[E]My dreams laid in pieces on the floor

[E]I packed my bags, headed [E7]out the door

To [A]find something that could ease my pain

an' [E]chase down the sun , outrun the rain

had to [B7]find somebody to break my chains

an' chase [A] down the sun and [B7] outrun the [E]rain

.

[E]I met her in a bar on a Tuesday night

[E]something about her that [E7]felt so right

She [A] didn’t ask much, not her style

yet [E]slowly, somehow she made me smile

[B7] She didn’t ask much, but we talked awhile

and then [A] slowly, somehow she [B7]got me to [E] smile

.

Chorus 2

.

[A]I never saw that coming, caught me off guard

Oh I [E] never saw it coming, when she stole my heart

I[A] never saw it coming —got to me somehow

If i [B7] did it over again, I’d [A] still be hers [E]now

Verse 3

.

[E]We still talk about the roads I’ve been down

[E]The scars I carry, my [E7]friend not around

She [A] holds my hand when the memories weigh

And [E] stands beside me when I lose my way

Yeah[B7] she holds my hand when I try to pray

And she [A] loves the man [B7] that I am[E] today

.

[E]She’s my calm, my savior, puts out my fires

[E] everything I need, my[E7] hopes n' desires

She [A] picks me up when I'm all alone

yeah [E]she’s my forever — she brought me home

oh [B7] what I lost and found aren't carved in stone

but I [A]know she’s forever, and [B7] I’m finally [E]home

Chorus 3

.

[A]I never saw that coming, she sets me free

Oh I [E] never saw it coming, she's my destiny

I[A] never saw it coming — she is all I need

She's my [B7] my love, my baby the [A] reason I be[E]lieve

Outgo  real slow

oh I [B7]Never saw her coming… but [A]man, I sure ain’t letting her [E] go

No I [B7] never saw her coming, but [A]I sure ain't letting her [E]go

Re: Finally Home -Blues Version Changed title to Never Saw It Coming

I know it's a bit long - but it plays easy  it's around 4 minutes when I play it through.

any of you blues players out there have any comment or suggestions ?

I really don't want to shorten it bc it was based on a true story told tome a few years ago by a Viet Nam Veteran

Cheers Jim, Keep up the good work. It is winter here some regions of our country have been hit hard by storms and flooding but fortunately in my area it's been not to bad.
Wishing all the Chordians who read this all the best.

That is so good Jim, lots of really good lines in there, all the better if based off a true story.  I can`t give you any advice as I am not much of a song writer or blues player but love what you have done with this song.
