Topic: Grass was Green (not finished at all)

I was listening to Give Peace a Chance by John Lennon and i thought about the war today. So i thought up this song and the guitar chords are a bit too easy. But it works...

VERSE I:

Am                        C                   G                    D
Everybody's staring at the floor as if they were all in the war
Am                 C                   G                 D
I wonder if it's not too late to call upon one of those saints
Am                 C                                         G                      D
Of what we did we're misunderstood Now the world's not what it should be
Am                 C                   G                 D
I wonder if it's not too late to call upon one of those saints

CHORUS: (PS THIS IS KINDA WEIRD)
Am                    D                           A
A long long time ago...The grass was green
Am                    D                           A
A long long time ago...The world was seen
Am                                   C
But now the grass is brown and we're fighting to the ground
G                     D
And it's out loss

B7  (four beats)

Am         C          G           D

Hi Quitarrox16,
Your first line here grabbed my attention. I notice this in doctors clinics.
Most people stare at the floor when worried or concerned while waiting?
I really would like to hear this finished.I personally was going back to when the grass was green for the next verse? But its not my song, so maybe you will?

Re: Grass was Green (not finished at all)

Thanks, but I am having ALOT of trouble writing the rest of the song. I'll be sure to write it really soon or i will...do something utterly stupid.

Re: Grass was Green (not finished at all)

Hi GuitarRox.

A fine start to your song but remember we all suffer from mental blocks and every songwriter on this forum will have several unfinished pieces of work.

These can be put aside and looked at again in the future, or maybe a collaboration with a friend will see them finished and sometimes, I am afraid, they do just gather dust. Funnily enough, even starting a completely new song can sometimes give you an idea to finish a earlier unfinished one. So even if you do not finish this one now, keep trying with new ones.

Thank you,

Roger

Re: Grass was Green (not finished at all)

Hi GuitarRox - Like Roger says, you've got a great start on this one.  Don't get bogged down trying to finish for now . . . work on some other ideas and this one will be ready to finish when you get around to it.

I've got so many pieces of songs laying around it is like a junk yard.  Some pieces have sat dormant for a long time and may never get 'finished', but they have served as springboards for new ideas and other songs.  It's all part of the delightfully chaotic creative process.  James

Re: Grass was Green (not finished at all)

i think you have some really good solid lines here to build off of, and its a nice idea too.

Everybody's staring at the floor as if they were all in the war,

AND

But now the grass is brown and we're fighting to the ground

Especially those two, they're the ones that are sticking out to me. As you go through the process of polishing, editing, adding (and omitting), I think these especially shouldn't be changed. Good luck with finishing it, I'm tyring to finish a couple myself and it can be very frustrating.
