Topic: Song New Pastures. Words/Melody Helena Donovan.

This little tune was written some years ago. I had some woman Friends
for lunch. One of them had her divorce papers with her. We Cried and Laughed
together at the loss alround.
When they left i sat in the garden and this was the result of what our
discussion had been about! Some of the guys did come back, To Late! As some moved to new pastures in there Heads.
The song as usual has simple chords, is picked all through,{says she delighted with herself} and i feel a lovely Melody.

New PasturesWords/Melody  Helena Donovan

[D] The [G] papers said just what was [C] real

[G] The ending of a marriage [D] deal

[G] Down to who [G] owned what and[C] why

[G] Lifetimes lost just [D] pie in [G] sky

.

The real life gone in time for [C] greed

[G]Because you planted another [D] seed

Your [G] kingdom full of what was [C] needed

Went [G] unnoticed [D] almost [G] unheeded.

Chorus

[D] Two hearts now left [G] unattended

[A7] Yours and hers cannot be [D] mended

[G] Ours still blooms as if they [C] know

[G] What we reap is [D] what we [G] sow.

Grass is greener was what you[C] said

[G] So left to tend another’s [D] bed

[G] Borders edging neat and[C] curved

[G] More weed than seed just [D] grew for [G] you.

Chorus.

[D]Two hearts now left [G] unattended

[A7]Yours and hers cannot be [D] mended

[G] Ours still blooms as if they[C] know

[G] What we reap is [D] what we [G] sow.

[G] What we reap is [D] what we [G] sow.

Old Doll, once again a very well written song. I wish I was a better fingerpicker so I could do it justice, but very nice. That was my fav. line by the way smile

Hi Old Doll,
Just popped onto the forum and saw a damsel's song in distress - so I fixed the coding so that it would show up 'all purdy like'.

Lovely lyric about a dismal event . . . have had friends go through this experience.
Some come out of it better people - others not.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with all the many new songs, but time has been in short supply for me lately . . .

Hey Lena - Very nice indeed - I can never figure why some folks can't be satisfied with who they supposedly devoted their life to. I guess it's men being men or at least human. I agree with you that it is a lovely melody and I would love to hear you version of it.

Old Doll,
Was the first line supposed to read,"The papers said just what was real."?

I really like this tune. It runs the gamut of emotions. Realization, sadness, acceptance, are brought forth, to me at least. You, my friend, are genuinely gifted as a songwriter. Splendidly exquisite! Thanks for sharing.

Give everything but up.

Hi Helena,

As per usual sensitive and beautiful lyrics about a sad path I have unfortunately trodden twice. Still they do say third time lucky. Great chord sequence and, as it seem to be my favoured mode of play lately, I also finger picked it. Great song and I have to say that I also would like to hear you singing it. Well done,

Thank you,

Roger
