Every time I log on and look at the forum theres always this advertising crap like free amatuer porn videos and penis enlargments and stuff. I thought this was a website for guitarists not perverts. Chordie has gone to the dogs.

The moderators and administrators here on Chordie are voluntering our time and services free of charge to help rid this site of filth and annoying spam. We have lives and schedules and unfortunately cannot spend our every waking hour monitoring this site for disgusting content and other bothersome items. What you can do, Altex, instead of attacking the people that do their very best here to keep this site clean, is report the spam. Help us out, don't call us out. We're stronger working on this problem together and insulting this site and the people who try to keep it clean is counterproductive.
I deleted 2 today.
And Altex, amigo, sometimes it is real strange. I have nothing against porn, but not on this site. The one I deleted 2 hours ago was even WITH CHILD PORN!!!
A big "crime". Also, the fact they put it on a site where a lot of chordians, are VERY young.
You can look, everywhere, seeing nothing and 1 minute later, it's there.
Like Southpaw wrote, chordie hasn't gone to the dogs, we try to be "the dogs". Long time I was "thinking" why here, just like you.
I am most of the time on line between 08.00 and 14.00, some days, I don't see porn/spam, but other days, I see a few, and I remove it. I start my day looking in the ACOUSTICS, I check them all, and as I told, I react, but amazing to see nothing at 09.01h and than, one minute later, "they are there" at 09.02h. Trust us, we try hard to "clean" up, to make CHORDIE clean. So this is for EVERYBODY: REPORT ABUSE.

There are problem solvers and then there are the problem creaters.
No matter what site you go to there are going to be people that try to fill all of us with filth and perversion, but it's up to all of us to not only report problems, but to try and stop it. If you want to keep the site clean then first you must report it then you could even send out your own warning to others. I have several chordians that I've got in my address book.
I've never ran across anything inappropriate,Yet, but there is always that possibility. Instead of complaining, do something.

I'm proud to call myself a member of this site. I've met lots of people that never put me or my questions down. There is always someone here that is willing to help. I've came across other sites that don't care and it shows. If the people on this site didn't care it would be so filled with trash that noone would ever get anything accoplished.
If something gets through then you can't play the blame game.

One of the problems here I think is the time difference. All the Moderators of Chordie are in the Europe or America and we tend to be in our beds when you are up and about in your part of the world. Unfortunately we have no Moderators in your time zone.
As SouthPaw pointed out we are all volunteers and we do the best we can, but your help in reporting is important. Any report you make is flagged and highlighted to any of the Moderators as soon as we log onto the Forum which gives us the chance to eliminate it without having to look through every posting to check whether it is fit to be on Chordie.

Do you have sometimes the impression, that even using a 100 eyed chordian, will still be not so easy? I am almost always on line from 09.00 - 14.00h. I like to read other peoples topics, and try to give answers. Sometimes I don't see "those topics", and certainly not on purpose.
Still related with the job I used to do, I am able to help people, by let's say, a kind of medical approach. It is the truth to see, or read between the lines some problems, and I try to help where I can. I just don't understand WHY that "particular" breed are acting by putting stuff as described, here. I try to understand, you can say "it's a fact" but what is the reason? Now: ban forever and delete. It is probably the MD in me, asking why those people do this. Is it also a problem on other sites? I continue to do the best I can, and I count on our "chordians" to report us, so we can take our responsibility BY BANNING & DELETING THOSE BEASTS (sorry for my word choice.

The main reason for porno and alike links in a post is probably only one. Like most things in this world it there to make money. If one person clicks on a porno link then the post is successful the advertiser has a hit on the directed site which means money.
These people are probably in most ordinary people's eyes classed as perverts or similar but mostly they are driven by money.
They won't go away that's for sure they are absolutely everywhere on the internet and they are here to stay.
The best suggestion I've seen to help stop them on chordie was to make new members answer one or more post before letting them post a topic of their own. It's not a complete answer but it will stop the one off post.
I think we all appreciate the Moderators and Administrators for doing their best to remove these post as soon as they see them.

arkady hit the bullseye, these post aren't really about porn, they're a elaborate traps to get people to spend money.
Ignore the posts, don't hit the links, this will only keep up as long as there are people unknowing enough to fall for it. As soon as it doesn't pay off anymore to spoil many forums to get someone on their site, it will all go away.
The best thing you can do is laugh at it, wait for an admin, to find the time to delete the post and ban the user, and play the guitar in the meantime.
Maybe we can make this into a thread to suggest songs to play whenever there's a porn post in the forums? Take it easy is a good start here.
Maybe they'll "hear the music"?!?

I like it. Play a tune and keep to why I'm here and ignore the garbage. I've never came across any on this site, but there are those that have and there's always that one time that I could as well.
If you come across smutt, report it and go on with your life.

Someone's always out to make a buck and sometimes they don't care how they get it. It's kinda like dropping bombs from a plane. You never see who it hits so you get desinsitized. You drop a bomb and continue on your mission. They post trash on this site and post on every site there after, in hopes of that almighty dollar.

This is attitude is needed, and COORDINATION is necessary or you start to get crazy, looking, searching, from one post to another and back. ARKADY: do you think when you click on a link, you have to pay? I think their intention is more, to lead you to their site, and once you went looking they probably attack you. I confess, and I am certainly not alone, I clicked once, on a spam "thing" about medication (again the MD in me), what happpened: A list of products, especially Viagra. BANNED & DELETED. Never got spam. I also noticed that a most of these sites are from Russia, at least a few I deleted.
I am going to note somewhere where they come from. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR THIS ABUSE. FOR ME IT IS A CRIME = It is like disturbing a community of FRIENDS with one passion: MUSIC and PLAYING MUSIC. I am on line a big part of the day, I sit here "forever" and getting "worse physically." So I have time, but some days there is almost nothing, on other days I intercept 2-3 SPORNS. I know all of you guys, by reading your topics and or answers. You all are great persons, and like I told LET US ACT LIKE FRIENDS and fight against SPORNERS.
I know that I always will listen to advise. I have almost no more social life (this is not a joke), but you CHORDIANS are my social life, my contacts, my friends. I am not hiding myself, I am open minded and always prepared to give advise (even medical, I even have a topic about medical problems caused by playing guitar)

No Doc I know you personally don’t have to pay if you click on a porn link. The very fact that you have been directed to the linked site generates a hit on that particular site which can mean money for the advertiser. If a person is then enticed to delving deeper into what’s on offer then you will in all probability be made to pay.
These links are placed on forums for one thing only that is to make money.
Sex has generated money since mankind has existed. These people are exploiters simply that.
They have no deeper directives other than to part people with their money.
Everything goes there are no taboos no limit’s. The pursuit of money overrides all moral considerations.
Such is the world we live in and the internet is just extension.

Arkady, you are correct, but one thing remains in my head: the fact to read "CHILD PORN" I never clicked on porn, I have seen more tan enough when still working (hahaha) but this gives me an inspiring idea. I will post the question here because, it is not worth to write a topic about this sporn, or maybe it is worth a topic: WHO HAS CLICKED ON A PORN LINK? I didn't, but I wanted to know 1 thing, if people, watched the topic, most of them are deleted when (I didn't really count them) 3-5 people have seen those posts, if they had problems after clicking on a link. I SAID "IF". They don't belong here at all those sites, what would they do if we start putting Gibsons or Fenders on their sites. Same for spam, I even think I won't accept a guitar factory putting their products here.
This has nothing to do directly with this problem, but here, andin other countries too, it is NOT ACCEPTABLE to play on television PHONE GAMES, the most vulnerable people are people staying at home, because they are ill, or lost their job, even in hospital. You see a direct line, and the number of people calling in 1 minute (up to 800), but when you phone (YES I was a sinner too) you can't get in. They have to earn a fortune. Other dangerous sites here are "gambling". Most of these sites go via via to a country like China, and yes you can loose a lot of money. And as it always is: the targets are the people who needed their money most.
I think to write a topic about "boobytraps, snakepits and scam" or "dangerous sites" to everybody, help please, as friends, to warn friends.

our message board got so much porn and enlarge yourself adds we had to take the forum down.... now we have the twisted characters before you can post. since the change no more spam, only legitimate posts.
Since first visiting this excellent site several months ago, I'm happy to report that I've not had a single encounter with any inappropriate links on the forums. Thanks to all who contribute to make this one of the best sites I've used. Highly recommended.

And I am glad that you as well as a few others do not see any of the spam that gets posted sometimes. We do get rid of it as soon as we see it.
A few times it might be on for an hour or so, depending the time and if someone is on to get rid of it, but since we are al hooked to the site 
it gets reported quickly and gets deleted as soon as and the spammer gets a guarantee ban for his or her efforts.

Yes People, the brothers here live in another time zone. Today I catched one. I forgot the email, AND only 1 viewer, that will be me probably.
It is a plaque, and about REPORTING, I see that in the US, The people delete untill 03.00-04.00. I do not sleep with my PC, I think Europe is covered quit good, and than I start thinking in hours, if I go to sleep at 22.00h it has to be a 6 hour of time , meaning that on the East Coast it should be 16.00h, and going to the West Coast: you cross 3 times a time zone, even more going to Hawai.
I've reported three such posts in the last four months or so.
I'm up early here in Eastern Canada and go on Chordie with my morning cup of Tea at five am.,before work. I'll keep on doing that because Chordie is music.

Perhaps we should have a few moderators in the southern hemisphere to keep tabs on the sporn posts and delete them where necessary. The reason being is because of the time difference, while Europe and the US are sleeping us Aussies are wide awake and can be good for monitoring the site for garbage.
This is just a suggestion on my part.
Since that last post there has not been much or any spam,porn or sporn on the site.
I have not had to delete any, it is mostly just wee silly things that members post so far that is getting moderated.
But should there be a need, I tihnk it is a good idea for a new time zone.
It was mentioned before and I am sure Per will seek one if he feels the need.

As upyerkilt is mentioning, there has been very little spam lately because of the new registering system.
Reporting spam is also a lot more effective. Now I get all reports directly in my mail box, and can respond more quickly.
Please report any spam as soon as you see it..!
So, Ill wait a few weeks, and then decide if we need more moderators.

So, whilst I have no problem with this stuff myself; I am aware some unfortunates need it. I spent a lot of my working life dealing with it too. So, I'll say this...
If it gets through to the website delete it if you can. If you MUST satisfy curiosity, don't click on the spam; make a note of the url, and open a fresh page in your browser!
The pedlars like to seed fertile ground, because they are in it for the cash! So if you don't click the links they send, they will assume they have found stony ground. Eventually, this kind of spam, goes away.

If people are really against adverts on websites then there is a really easy solution. I run a edited hosts file that redirects "most" advert providers to 127.0.0.1 and all i see is a nice little box with page not found.
you can go to http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts2.htm and download a copy regularly as it is updated.
I run this on my kids machine. This also has the added benifit of reducing your bandwidth as with the huge amount of ads around now eveywhere you look, you internet will actually speed up.
