Topic: Number 47 – A Regular Fortune

In October, some of you may remember that my family and I went to Japan. One of the places we visited was the Asakusa Shrine(http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3004.html). One of the tourist type things people do there is buy these little fortunes which I bought and ended up getting what was called a regular fortune. If you get a bad one you can tie it to a tree and the fortune goes away but if you get a good one then you keep it. Regular ones I guess you can give it back too but I kept mine because my life has been regular and fortunate with no big windfalls or tragedies just a regular life that I’m happy to say suits me just fine. Sorry to make it so long but it was a story so I had to finish it. Hope you all like it.

Number 47 – A Regular Fortune By Jeff Gilpin

January 7th, 2008

Intro

[Em]

Verse 1

[Amaj7]In an ancient temple

[Cmaj7]Visiting an ancient land

[Amaj7]I purchased my fortune

[Cmaj7]From this ancient stand

[D]Number 47

[Amaj7]Regular Fortune it said

I [Cmaj7]Didn’t understand it

In English on the back I [A]read

It said your [D]fortune is not special

It’s [A]plain and ordinary

But [D]just because it’s plain

Doesn’t mean it’s [Em]scary[Amaj7]

Verse 2

[Amaj7]Though you may want it now

Like [Cmaj7]waiting for a holiday

[Amaj7]Wait try and be patient

It will [Cmaj7]come with a slight delay

Like [D]hiking through the mountains

[Amaj7]It takes work and time

But the [Cmaj7]journey and destination

Makes it well worth the [A]climb

Your [D]fortune is not special

There [A]are no short cuts here

[D]Hard work, patience

And good people to help [Em]steer [Amaj7]

Verse 3

The [Amaj7]request you most desire

Will be [Cmaj7]recovered later on

Like the [Amaj7]moral of a fairy tale

The final [Cmaj7]chorus of a song

[D]You’ll find what you have lost

And [Amaj7]you will find it soon

It’s [Cmaj7]where you last remember

Tucked away in your [A]room

Your [D]fortune is not special

Neither [A]is it one to dread

Your life [D]will be long and happy

Smoothing sailing [Em]ahead [Amaj7]

Verse 4

A [Amaj7]new home might be worthwhile

Or [Cmaj7]tear an old one down

It’s [Amaj7]good to take a trip

[Cmaj7]To some far off town

Don’t [D]worry about your marriage

Or your [Amaj7]place of employment

[Cmaj7]Better to live your life

Savor every mo[A]ment

Your [D]fortune is not special

Not [A]special is still just fine

No [D]worries for tomorrow

Enjoy this gift of [Em]time [Amaj7]

So I [D]thought about my fortune

The [A]one I had just read

It [D]made me stop and wonder

Then had to [Em]catch up with my family up on a[Amaj7]head

Re: Number 47 – A Regular Fortune

Lovely lovely Jets,

I could visualize all of that piece. Love all that kind of stuff. I studied "Feng Shui". many years ago. Its the ancient art of placement. Such a interesting subject.

My son brought me home The Oldest Form of fortune telling from china. Its a big round Beautifull Wooden box, full of numbered  wooden Sticks. { Like Lollipop Sticks } one uses them a certain way, and then  pick  you  a stick for your fortine to be told. I use them for Womans get togethers at my house, as we tend to love this stuff.

Thanks Jets.

Re: Number 47 – A Regular Fortune

Hi Jeff,

As 1947 was a vintage champagne year and also the year that I was born I think that 47 is a good one to have chosen.

Great song from you again with and interesting and unusual chord sequence that works very well. Thank you.

Re: Number 47 – A Regular Fortune

Thanks Lena and Roger . I thought it was a good song idea too and it was really laid out there for me in the fortune. I just needed to turn it into a song.
