Topic: "The Land of Our Fathers"

This is just another frustration with the world song. With fuel prices going up there seems to be a very slow response in coming up with clean alternatives. There is also so much global poverty being ignored which breeds hate towards the rich and feeds the wars that really only get the rich richer and send the common folk off to kill each other.

The Land of Our Fathers By Jeff Gilpin

March 2nd, 2008

Verse 1

The[Em] future is a coming

[A]Whether we want it to or not

[D]So we best get [A]ready

And [Em]take care of what we got

[D]Or [Em]we’ll be breathing poison

[A]Drinking poison too

And the [D]babies of our [A]babies

Will [Em]have it worse than you

[A]Have it [D]worse than [Em]you [D]

Chorus

The [G]land of our fathers

That [D]they thought would be great

Like a [A]tractor-trailer on a twisting path

That [Em]seems to accelerate

Towards a [G]very bad ending

[D]Further on down the road

[A]We should turn back now

Be[D]fore we [A]lose this precious [Em]load [D]

Verse 2

The [Em]killing of our brothers

Who’ve [A]known only poverty

And [D]have had their minds [A]twisted

Into [Em]hating you and me

[D]While we’re [Em]currently enjoying

The [A]spoils of our gain

We [D]squander our re[A]sources

Until [Em]nothing else remains

[A]Will [D]nothing else re[Em]main [D]

Chorus

The [G]land of our fathers

That [D]they thought would be great

Like a [A]tractor-trailer on a twisting path

That [Em]seems to accelerate

Towards a [G]very bad ending

[D]Further on down the road

[A]We should turn back now

Be[D]fore we [A]lose this precious [Em]load [D]

Verse 3

It [Em]seem pretty simple

[A]We need to fix what’s broke

[D]But freewill and [A]greediness

[Em]Seem to sink the boat

[D]And [Em]all these corporate interests

[A]Do not want a change

They [D]like business as [A]usual

Even [Em]though it’s a losing game

[A]Such a [D]losing [Em]game [D]

Chorus

The [G]land of our fathers

That [D]they thought would be great

Like a [A]tractor-trailer on a twisting path

That [Em]seems to accelerate

Towards a [G]very bad ending

[D]Further on down the road

[A]We should turn back now

Be[D]fore we [A]lose this precious [Em]load [D]

Verse 4

I [Em]wish it were that easy

But it [A]is not easy at all

The [D]few that have the [A]power

Seem to [Em]want the world to fall

[D]So [Em]long as their lives

In the [A]short term stay the same

They [D]will not budge or [A]get on board

And [Em]that is just a shame

[A]Just a [D]crying [Em]shame [D]

Chorus

The [G]land of our fathers

That [D]they thought would be great

Like a [A]tractor-trailer on a twisting path

That [Em]seems to accelerate

Towards a [G]very bad ending

[D]Further on down the road

[A]We should turn back now

Be[D]fore we [A]lose this precious [G]load [D] [Em]

Re: "The Land of Our Fathers"

GREAT LYRICS, haven't had a chance to play along with the chord sequence [my lady's sleeping] and very topical.

What is really annoying is that profits come before anything else with governments and industrialists. If only they would take less profits and clean up their emissions, I work in a plant that has copper dust in the air, plus gasses associated with the tinning process, add to that the mineral oils and other chemicals associated with the manufacturing process, I and my workmates breathe this in every day, but it also goes out into the atmosphere!!!
Fact; we all want to feed our families; so we need to work for big bucks, [if we're lucky] and we also want to be independent by having our own means of transport [public transport being so crap in the UK] so therefor we are not too bothered with global warming, etc. And most of us believe it wont really happen, maybe little green men will come and save us all from ourselves at the eleventh hour.
Here's a flash;  they didn't come and save us before the first and second world wars broke out! so whats the chance now?
Any way, we'll probably get wiped out by a giant asteroid like the dinosaurs before that happens, then when the ants and beetles have evolved enough, they can puzzle over what we were, and how we lasted so long.

Now I'm depressed

keep writing you were born for it

Phill

PS I'm not a greenie

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

THese are some good lyrycs jets, nice choice of words. Its scary to think where this country might go, if when I'm old enough to talk about the 'good old days' it will be THESE days...

All You Need is Love smile

Re: "The Land of Our Fathers"

Thanks Reb  and Phill - I worry that either we'll all kill each other on purpose of by not fixing the problems we are causing in the environment. Either way we, including all the residence of earth, really need to get it sorted out soon.
