I think my son and I have succeeded in browbeating my grandson, Casey into covering a commercial tune.
He wants more views on his video blog and we are trying to convince him to try pop music to start.

I have been playing a few jim croce songs,the guy is hard to play he and his co player were good pickers on the acoustic guitar. I have heard that his co player was one of the best.

You'll never replicate Jim Croce. He brought a one-of-a-kind style. I do a few Jim Croce songs and just stick to the basic progressions.

A friend sent me a CD of some of his favorite songs and I've spent the last couple weeks trying to learn some of them:
"The Rain" - Scott Miller
"Red Ball Express" - Scott Miller
"Seven Hillsides" - written by Walt Wilkins and recorded by Ricky Skaggs
I'm working on "Dear Sarah" by Scott Miller and can't decide whether I like it better on my Nashville tuned Martin or my normal tuned Blueridge
I also just finished writing a new song "Hard Times" as part of my News Years resolution to write a new one every month. I've probably played it 30 times over the last week trying to ingrain the lyrics in my dense head so I'll remember how to play it at the next open mic I attend.

zurf I think you are right but I got a few of the riffs down,I really like I got a name it is my favorite song but I may end up just playing it by chords.

I am having a devil of a time replicating (on guitar) CSNY's "Teach Your Children" - the tune I can sing, but the guitar work I can't quite match. I'll get it eventually.
Just finished learning "Don Quiote" (Lightfoot). Him and his damned capo 2nd fret!

I am currently working on "Your Song" by Elton John, it is a piano song and is a lot of fun to play. I have the guitar part down and working on the vocal. I am playing it in June for a wedding , so I am getting close to having in down without any sheet music. Lots of notes in this one

Good songs WW55. I'm a real Lightfoot fan and play several of his songs. I find Don Quixote fits my voice better when I play without a capo in the key of C.

Hey, DE, my natural singing voice is D, I will give that a whirl in C, though. I have a friend who plays steel guitar, supposed to come over tomorrow for a few hours. He will be a big help with Teach Your Children.

if I hear it I'll recognize it though. Been working on a lot of stuff now that I'm laid-
off again. Trying to get a recording area setup. Newest tune- " The Mountains Win

Hi witewater, CSN&Y play alot of there songs in alternate tunings. Maybe you can dig a little deeper and see if you can find what they play that song in.

Some of mine - Life as a Dog, Chibi's Song and You Fill My World...some others as well.
Covers - Coming Back to You - L. Cohen, I Love You - Climax Blues Band, Dating a Porn Star & Love Doesn't Last Too Long - Weepies, Never Can Say Goodbye - Jackson 5, I Need Some Sleep - Eels, Last Thing On My Mind -Tom Baxton (but I'm doing it like Doc Watson), I Was Only Nineteen - Redgum, Times Like These - Jack Johnson, ...and a bunch of others. Most of these are on chordie but the Leonard Cohen song was from the Chords of Leonard Cohen website.
Oh yeah, I'm also playing around with Goodbye Billy Walker by KAP and Were Not so Lonely Any More by Andrew - both from the chordie songwriting forum and I recommend them.
