Topic: All I Need Is You

I’m a bachelor this weekend with my wife off with her golfing girls doing who knows what. These little times she's away help me to remember just how special she is to me. It’s nice reflecting on her when she is away.

All I Need Is You By Jeff Gilpin

August 6, 2011 - capo 3

[D]Got more tomatoes [A]than one man could eat

[C]Got corn and potatoes [D]too

Garden’s filled over[A]flowing with life

[G]But there ain’t no [A]life without [C]you [D]

Fixed the deck this [A]morning

[C]A piece of wood that went to [D]rot

Looked out in the garden at all your [A]flowers

[G]Wished you were [A]here but you were [C]not [D]

[C]Life’s pretty simple [D]sometimes

[A]All I [G]need is air to [D]breath

[C]A little food and [D]water

And [A]you [G][C]all I need is [D]you

[D]Looks like the grass needs [A]mowing

[C]Let it go much longer I’ll have [D]hay

Couldn’t ask for better [A]weather

[G]Sun’s shining in a [A]pleasant kind of [C]way[D]

[D]The laundry not going to [A]wash itself

[C]The dishes need some washing [D]too

I don’t mind doing [A]all that needs doing

[G]Takes my restless [A]thoughts away from [C]you [D]

[C]Life’s pretty simple [D]sometimes

[A]All I [G]need is air to [D]breath

[C]A little food and [D]water

And [A]you [G][C]all I need is [D]you

[D]Night times starting to settle [A]in here

[C]And all I could think to do is [D]done

Sitting on the porch now with my [A]guitar

[G]Picking out a [A]tune while I [C]hum [D]

[D]Saturday night in Vir[A]ginia

I’m [C]sure the night is lively off in [D]town

But I’m content just to [A]be here

[G]Thinking of you [A]when you’re not a[C]round [D]

[C]Life’s pretty simple [D]sometimes

[A]All I [G]need is air to [D]breath

[C]A little food and [D]water

And [A]you [G][C]all I need is [D]you

Re: All I Need Is You

It's sound like a country song. Reminds me of Keith Urban. Nice one. smile

"Where you begin doesn't matter. Your willingness to start is what counts."
Without music life would be a mistake.
Country music is three chords and the truth.

Re: All I Need Is You

Thanks dino - Just writing what was on my mind. I was playing around with the chords and the words kind of fell into place.

Re: All I Need Is You

Hey Steel - Thanks - Man, I sure wish I could sing & play like it like Keith. I noticed I was playing it with a capo on the third fret but forgot to add it to the song....doesn't matter though, but capo'ed down suits my voice a little better.

Yeah, I wish I was better at writing songs.  I think most of my inspiration comes from Keith. He can put so much emotion into his songs and playing.

Re: All I Need Is You

I like it. I'll have to sit out on the mountain and sing it out over the holler this evening.

Live in the "now" - a contentment of the moment - the past is gone - the future doesn't exist - all we ever really have is now and it's always "now".

Re: All I Need Is You

Another good  one Jeff.  It's got that homey, Americana feel that I dearly love to hear.

Re: All I Need Is You

Thanks you all. Steel, I think using Keith as your inspiration is going to set your bar high, but a good high. Have a good play with it bluejeep. I can just picture what that will look and sound like. I'm kind of fond of mountains. I'm originally from Asheville, NC. I was driving past your neck of the woods last weekend where I-26 and I-81 meet...pretty country. DE, thanks very much. I'd love to hear your rendition. BTW, my inspiration for this song came back this morning and I played it for her, and she told me she liked the it (wiping a tear from her eye). I am a lucky man.
