Intro

Strumming A

Verse 1

[A]When I wore the skin of a younger man

I was [G]fearless and clear eyed and [A]brave.

I’d [G]never back down from a [A]challenge in life.

I could [G]take whatever life [A]gave.

I could [G]take whatever life [A]gave

[G]Whether for good or for [A]bad.

I [G]Could take whatever life [A]gave.

[G]Looking back [D]now I am [A]glad.

Verse 2

[A]Later I started my family.

I [G]had no idea of the[A]change.

With a [G]wife, later a [A]child then another,

My pri[G]orities got rear[A]ranged.

While [G]I pretty much felt like the [A]same.

I [G]now had to take care of some [A]others.

Much [G]more than just my[A]self anymore:

[G]Son, daughter, [D]and my wife their [A]mother.

Verse 3

[A]Raising my family changed me.

[G]I was no longer care[A]free.

I [G]had to take care of my [A]children and wife,

So [G]much more important than [A]me.

[G]While at first I couldn’t [A]see.

[G]Time will [A]altering your views.

[G]Without them I’d cease to [A]be,

So [G]much more im[D]portant than [A]me.

Verse 4

[A]Now I’m older and wiser I guess

Than that [G]kid who set out long a[A]go

Who [G]had no idea of his [A]future back then,

Or the [G]changes into which he would [A]grow.

My [G]kids are all grown now and living their [A]lives.

[G]My wife is still by my [A]side,

But [G]I am no longer that [A]care free kid

Who [G]was just a[D]long for the [A]ride.

Verse 5

[A]Now I look back at the changes of time

[G]From that young man I used to [A]be.

[G]Just like the clay on the [A]potter’s wheel

[G]I’ve become the man that you [A]see.

[G]Shaped when I was more [A]malleable.

[G]Hardened through time and through [A]wear.

[G]Not quite as tall as I [A]once was.

[G]No longer [D]so free of [A]care.

Re: Along for the Ride

Good one Jets.

Live in the "now" - a contentment of the moment - the past is gone - the future doesn't exist - all we ever really have is now and it's always "now".

Re: Along for the Ride

That's life.  Good one

You can see all my video covers on http://www.youtube.com/bensonp1000
I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Along for the Ride

Thanks you two - Yep, a bunch of us on chordie have been there and done that. With this song I king of play around with the G chord, sometimes playing all 6 strings and other times playing the higher 4....kind of a folky waltz sound that was stuck in my head this morning.
