Topic: 2 new songs

hi all, i've just posted 2 new recordings to soundcloud

as you can see 1. is maggie coulter a song i wrote back in 2001 as part of a project

and 2. old friends which is a new song.

Two great songs Phill. I particularly like Maggie Coulter, although its a tragic tale it has a very catchy melody.  Again, great work Phill

Great work, Phill ...

I'll cast my vote for "Old Friends" as my favorite of the two. Are you using a DigiTech Trio for the drums & bass, or did you play all the instruments and mix them together? Either way, you sound great!

Both excellent renditions !!

I like the Maggie song the best. 
I grew up very poor and know the feelings associated with that. My dad died when I was 8 months old - leaving my mother with ten kids.
Somehow my mother got us through and we all turned out pretty damned well. 
reminds of the quote - " the things you take for granted, someone else is praying for'

Both great songs but something about "Old Friends" just spoke to me.

Agree with everyone!! Two great productions!! Admittedly,  I really liked Old Friends!! That deep dip is really catchy and loved the lyrics!! Both enjoyed both thoroughly! smile

Very nice.
Maggie Coulter has always been one of my favourites reworked sounds great.
Old friends as good as any you have recorded.

keepitreal, yes she is my 3 year old granddaughter, Darcie. it is a sad tale but you cant write lovey-dovey songs all the time?

TF, i'm glad people like one or the other. no all live instruments, it's my joy and my hobby. funnily enough, it's only guitar bass keyboards and drums i've ever wanted to play.

the things we take for granted someone else is praying for....what a brilliant quote. sorry `bout your dad, it must have made things hard for you kids and your mam. still gave you plenty to write about. the character maggie was based on my grandmother who i used to call "my ngu" it's actually mamgu, welsh for grandmother, though she was anything but a tramp/hobo.
