Topic: Happiness

I wanted to write a happy song, and even called it 'Happiness', but it ended up being a bit sad:

HappinessRichard Mortimer

Intro: G D C Em

[G]Happiness,[D] [C] you used to be my [Em]friend

We'd [C]sing and dance and [G]laugh out loud, [Em]until the day would [D]end

[G]Happiness,[D] [C] we'd always shared good[Em] times

S[C]mile and joke, [G]talk about folks and sp[Em]end not a single d[D]ime

[Am]Then you took [Gm]leave of me

On a[Dm] day I didn't [Am7@5]forsee

[Dm7]Took leave of me

[G]And I miss you, [E7]I wish you'd come [Am]back[Em7-5]

[G]Happiness, [D] [C]where did you go?[Em]

W[C]hy did you [G]leave so [Em]unexpected[D]ly

[G]Happiness, [D] [C]you're like a long lost [Em]friend

w[C]ho brings me a [G]smile, thinking about the [Em]old times we [D]had

[G]Some days I[D] see you, I [C]try to wave h[Em]ello

But [C]time goes by, and [G]so do I, and you [Em]lost your [D]glow

[Am]Then you took [Gm]leave of me

On a[Dm] day I didn't [Am7@5]forsee

[Dm7]Took leave of me

[G]And I miss you, [E7]I wish you'd come [Am]back[Em7-5]

[G]Happiness,[D] [C] you used to be my [Em]friend

We'd [C]sing and dance and [G]laugh out loud, [Em]until the day would [D]end

[G]Happiness, [D] [C]I know you'll be back one [Em]day

I[C] look forward to [G]telling you tales from [Em]when you [D]went [G]away

Re: Happiness

Hi Neo. A bitter sweet song. It could easily be about unrequited love or a good childhood pal you've lost touch with. I especially like the part about your friend losing your glow, reminds me of beautiful girls I used to date or wanted to date but now time has taken its toll.
I often wonder about my old school mates and how many are still above ground?
Looking forward to hearing it.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Neo
Nice one

I agree with Phill - it allows for personal application and  interpretation - it will mean a lot of different things to many different people.

very creative

Re: Happiness

Neo outstanding. For me it is a sad song that has an optimistic outlook while still been sad and yet still reflecting on good times, which makes me feel happy listening to it.
I enjoyed your video. playing and singing good to see and hear you back on your song writing horse.

Re: Happiness

I like it. I'm wondering what part 3 will be about?

Boozers.....you took me on the lash.

Employers....you threw me in the trash.

Lawyers.... relieved me of my cash.

Women, kids and psychopath's

Make a nice middle 8 ?

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Happiness

That's superb work, Neo, both of them. Someone else here said that suffering often produces some of the greatest lyrics / music, and music is a great way to let it all out. Appreciate your work, and sympathize for what you must've gone through to produce it.
