Topic: Trips A Days

I was thinking about my early days in the military, when I lived in West Germany as it was called at the time. I gave the song a kind of folky sound with the chords.

Trips A Days By Jeff Gilpin

[__].

Verse Dm D Dm D C/G Am7 C/G Am7 G… Chorus F C G D X2

[__].

I [Dm]knew a girl, she was pe[D]culiar.

She’d [Dm]stare with mischievous [D]eyes.

She’d [C/G]say things you’d never ex[Am7]pect

[C/G]Just to catch your [Am7]look of sur[G]prise.

[__].

She’d [Dm]talk in a voice me[D]lodic.

Was [Dm]mesmerizing just to [D]hear.

She’d [C/G]leave your head a [Am7]spinning

[C/G]Like someone [Am7]might have dosed your [G]beer [D]

[__].

[F]In my misspent [C]days of [G]youth

[F]In my days left [C]far be[G]hind

That [F]I will [C]sometimes [G]visit

In my [F]trips going [C]back in [G]time... [D]

[__].

A friend of mine I met long ago

And have misplaced over the years.

We’d visit places far and wide

That now have disappeared.

[__].

Towns of medieval history

With stories yet to be told.

We’d travel from one to another

Upon this ancient road.

[__].

[F]In my well spent [C]days of [G]youth

[F]In my days left [C]far be[G]hind

That [F]I will [C]sometimes [G]visit

In my [F]trips going [C]back in [G]time ...[D]

[__].

The trips I take from time to time

To places where I’ve been

Reflect the people that I’ve known,

And may never see again.

[__].

Like some faded pictures,

Photographs put away,

But brought out from time to time

When I’m feeling this way ….when I’m

[__].

[F]Missing my [C]days of [G]youth,

[F]My days left [C]far be[G]hind.

[F]I will [C]visit these[G] places when I can

Taking [F]trips … [C]going back in [G]time... [Dm] [D]

Jeff
That very interesting.  I was wondering if there was any double entendre in the lyrics ?

Hey Jim - No hidden meaning this time and yes, that is me holding my son back in the late summer of 1984. My wife too and a good friend on a trip down in Bavaria...south western Germany, West Germany at that time.

Re: Trips A Days

Jeff. All your songs are beautiful and well performed, this one is no exception, wistful and containing a great story. I think we've all met a similar lady as described in the first verse, and as the song goes on I realized that no matter where you live or which continent we all have the same experiences. Well done.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Trips A Days

Jeff I do not know how I missed this one. Great  writing as all your songs have been. You have a true talent and I always look forward to your work. This one is wonderful just to read. Your recording of songs just adds to your work.

Re: Trips A Days

Jeff is among a really talented group of songwriters / poets we have, and this one ranks highly among them. The beauty of this one is that it could work in any number of genres ... the lyrics are so good, and really tell a story. Nice work, Jeff!
