Topic: the promised land

https://soundcloud.com/mojo01/promised-land

this song started out as a single line " ill be waiting for you some where in the promised land" then it evolved into I'll be waiting for you on the other side  no need to think about no need to wonder why  I ll be waiting for you holding out my hand I,ll leave a light on for you some where in the promised land.

so now I have what I think is pretty chorus , where to go with it? well see for yourself let me know what you think about it

Re: the promised land

D                                                            C               G
you let me get behind the wheel of your old 68
D                                                             C                           G
I busted that fords fender when I couldnt find the brake
fishing on the bayou and tubing on the beach
but that was many years ago and now your out of reach

D                                             C                      G
you will be waiting for me on the other side
D                                             C                             G
no need to think about it no need to wonder why
D                                                         C                  G
you will be waiting for me holding out your hand

D                                                                 C
so leave a light on for me somewhere in
C  G              G                      D
                    the promise land

riding on the gas tank of your old Honda dream
I guess thats where I got it these bike and gasoline
it ended like you lived your life with some oddball disease
marching to a different tune you did just as you pleased

chorus

my mother and father never heard me play
I often think about it to this very day
I wonder if they ever knew I could write a song
looking forward to the day that they can sing along

chorus

we drive down to the levee she would look at me and grin
we learned about love and we learned how to sin
you know you stole my all those years ago
tell you right now baby there is something you should know

I'll be waiting for you on the other side
no need to think about it no need to wonder why
I'll be waiting for holding out my hand
I'll leave a light on for you some where in
            the promised land

I  actualy choked   when I  sang  this  verse  . Fantastic  lyrics  Mojo .  I love  it

Re: the promised land

Having listened to this  a  few times  now  ,I  wonder  if  a    bridge  between the   two  last  verses   could    enhance  it  as  the   chord  sequence  of  DCG  runs    through  the  length  of  the  song    ,Just  an  idea  not  a  critisism  .

Re: the promised land

The more  I   play  this  the  deeper  meanings  i    get  from it  so  correct  me  if  I'm wrong .  I  see  it  as  some  one  remembering  the  important  people  in his  life  and  then finaly  saying  good  bye   to  his  loved one  as  he  him self  dies .Ive  reversed  the chord  sequence in the  chorus    which  suits  my  voice  better   and  seems  to  negate  the need  for  the  bridge  as  I  said  in my  previous  post ,Mojo  this  is  one  of  your  best  songs .

Re: the promised land

Graham I would love to hear your version of it, I have no problem making changes if it improves it. I actualy started off with different chords and rhythm but did not work for my voice so kind of ended up with what you see .
and yes you have the meaning 100% correct two older brothers and my parents and eventually saying good bye myself

Re: the promised land

I'll not be home for a week now but when I am I'll do a recording and send it to you.

Re: the promised land

I like the simplicity of this song which allows the listener to concentrate on the lyrics without being distracted. Haven't had chance to play it through yet but looking forward to doing so at the earliest opportunity. Great song. You must be well pleased.

Re: the promised land

Enjoyed that  - good song that says it all. Plays real nice too.

Re: the promised land

If no one at the folk club has it I'll get my wife to film it at Hebden trades club at the end of the month.

Re: the promised land

what does " Down a Storm" mean ? Is that a British cliche ?

It must mean something great - cuz I liked the song a lot
