Topic: Unfinished Business

to be honest- after just listening to Mojo's new post " Twisting in the wind" this pales - but I will post anyways.
I  will let you guess as to what it is about if you wish.

Unfinished Business By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

[D] Well I saw you last evening, as I

cruised down an old memory lane

and I [G]thought to myself, that my life

will [D]never again,be the same

there’s [A]words inside I’ve rarely spoken

and [G]bonds of love that can’t be[D] broken

.

Chorus

Well I’ve[G] got myself, unfinished [D]business

Just[A] thinking about it , makes me wanna [D]cry

Yeah I’ve [G]got myself unfinished [D]business

‘cause I [A] never got the [G]chance to say [D]goodbye.

Yeah I’ve [G]got myself unfinished [D]business

Even [A]though I knowmy love will never [D]die

Well I’ve[G] got myself, unfinished [D]business

And [A] all my life I’ll [G] always wonder [D]why

.

Verse 2

[D]I’m missing the good times we had together

and the ways you always found to make me smile

I’m [G]holding on to the good times we shared

knowing [D] that I loved you all the while

oh[A] I know you’re happy wherever you are

You’re [G]out of sight, but never out of my [D]heart

.

Chorus

Well I’ve[G] got myself, unfinished [D]business

Just[A] thinking about it , makes me wanna [D]cry

Yeah I’ve [G]got myself unfinished [D]business

‘cause I [A] never got the [G]chance to say [D]goodbye.

Yeah I’ve [G]got myself unfinished [D]business

Even [A]though I knowmy love will never [D]die

Well I’ve[G] got myself, unfinished [D]business

And [A] all my life I’ll [G] always wonder [D]why

appreciate the compliment Jim, but you write some pretty good stuff to , like this one

out of tune out of key and out of touch

Re: Unfinished Business

Jim I like the  way this song could have many different back stories to it. Your  a gifted songwriter.

Re: Unfinished Business

Ahhh, unrequited love! The words flow well together, you have that knack of taking a mundane subject and breathing life into it.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Unfinished Business

Thanks guys

I wrote it actually as a tribute and a way of wishing that I could have spent more time with my bothers in our older years -  I had two  pass away in the past two years  and my oldest brother has alzheimers to the point where he does not know me anymore.  I was looking at old family photos and the idea of this song just kind of
emerged in to my thinking.  Time just goes by so fast , we get caught up with daily happenings and things that seem so important at the time - and then suddenly something happens - and you wonder why you didn't spend more time with them.  I guess it was just a release verse for me.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope you all take the time to spend with your families- it really is irreplaceable.
Cheers
JIm

Re: Unfinished Business

I can relate to what your saying there Jim having lost an older brother who passed away  who i never really got to know well. Also  there has never been a time because of age difference  and living in different parts of the world that me and all my siblings have ever been in the same place together.

Re: Unfinished Business

Jim. So sorry to hear about your brothers, unrequited love seems rather trivial in comparison.
It's funny how we lose touch with people and when we meet up years or decades later we expect them to look and be the same as when we last saw them. I know to my own sadness, as I grow older so do they, and maybe not as healthily as me. Most of my hair is down the plug hole now, but I still have more than some of the guys I played in bands with back in the day. I dread to think how many of my school friends haven't even made it to 70!
I often wonder when I'm talking to people 10 or more years older than me how they looked back in their heyday and what kind of naughtiness they got up to?

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Unfinished Business

So many way we all express the same emotions.  I also would not have thought of brothers or family in this song.  reading your explanation makes it very crystal clear.
Good song. I like it.
