Topic: Rambling Boy

I wrote this song this morning. Thoughts of the local Apple Festival and some folk songs that I've been having fun with. The Apple Festival is going on now in Hendersonville, NC if you want to stop by as well. I hear there will be crowds and apples of course.

Re: Rambling Boy

Jeff reading your lyrics made me think of Mark Twains, 'The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer" why my mind went there I don't know. I could imagine you singing that song to a group of people and doing it as a sing along.

Re: Rambling Boy

Thanks Pete. I don't think I'll be performing it to a group of people, but I do plan on recording it sometime. I tried to write it as a more traditional bluegrass song. I just wish I could play all the instruments needed to make it sound right.

Jeff
cute rendition of an episode

Reminds me a bit of Steve Earle and Rodney Crowell  in this video

except I'm sure you weren't as lit up as they were smile

Re: Rambling Boy

Thanks Jim - I can attest to not being lit when I wrote this... LOL. That was a fun group sing-along for sure...My dad used to sing Stay All Night on road trips from NC to Texas and back way back in the day, among quite a few others. It was a long trip with a few gaps in radio coverage. I heard Willie Nelson and his band perform it live in Hattiesburg, MS, (1979 or 1980 if I remember correctly) on a little break from training at Keesler AFB with a few friends, including George, Jack, and Ezra.

Jeff

Neat little song.
Thought the music was well played.  Song fits your voice nicely.
I think you tended to rush a couple of lines just a little bit though - but
you sing and play so much better than I can so what do I know smile ?

Nice job!
Keep'em coming

Re: Rambling Boy

Hey Jim - Thanks - Like many bluegrass tunes, it is an up-tempo song, so I was trying to fit in all the words while I still had the breath. This one took a while to record. I supposed I could have slowed it down, but I was going for a recording to show how the song is played and fits the music. You play and sing quite well by the way but thank you for the compliment.

Re: Rambling Boy

Hi Jeff. Haven't listened yet but it reads like traditional folk music over here. Listen ASAP. Ps, I love apples especially cox's pippins...lovely.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Rambling Boy

Thanks Phill. Yes, that was my intent, to write a traditional folk song, a kind of bluegrass folk song which I have been reading up on since I'm living in the heart of bluegrass now....I haven't tried those apples but I will keep a look out for them.

Re: Rambling Boy

Good hoedown delivery of your song there Jeff. I could imagine a Bluegrass band playing this.     In the last few years I have been eating plenty of a new type of apple called Jazz Apples but I'm also a big fan of the old varieties but unfortunately they don't show up at our Supermarket like they use to. Cox Orange a fav.

Re: Rambling Boy

jets60, agree with Peatle that is has a hoedown feel to this one smile  Agree with TIGLJK as well, maybe a litte bit too fast in places smile
