Topic: up until now

https://soundcloud.com/mojo01/up-untill … al_sharing

this is a song i wrote for the veterans , the motto of the volunteer group i am in for helping vets is "up till today you have made through 100% of you worst days"

words and chords as requested
capo 2nd fret
D                                                 C                 G
a pistol and phone they both lay by the bed
A                                                     G                    D
you struggle each day which to put to your head

your dying inside from a cut that don't bleed
the people around you cant see your needs

in a world that's so dark you can't catch your breath
like to many others you just want to rest

chorus

Bm                         D
up until now you've made it through
A                                              G
everything the worlds thrown at you

now's not the time to throw it away
give me a call we will sit down and pray

your still as strong as you used to be
pick up the phone tell your troubles to me

was all red, white and blue when you raised your right hand
doing your duty in some foreign land

what they never told you was how high the cost
in the number of friends or the limb that you lost

memories you buried they creep in your brain
when the pills and the bottle stop dulling the pain

chorus

you were so young how could you have known
the nightmares and memories would follow you home

used and forgotten now you will never be whole
the things you have seen left a stain on your soul

you sit in the dark with your thoughts all alone
in one hand a pistol the other a phone

chorus

repeat first 2 lines

out of tune out of key and out of touch

Re: up until now

Joe,
This probably a # 1 hit on some country station!

Thanks for sharing - more comments on soundcloud !
I might get banned on here - but that is a "holy SH** that's good" song.
Standing Ovation from me for you for the song and to all veterans for their service!!

Re: up until now

Wow Joe, the description you give is horrifying for someone like me who has never had to face the horrors of war. We have all seen Hollywood films that glorify killing while the killers or those left behind don't seem to have a care, it's only the heroes that are mourned. It's the kids that watch these with impunity that might be tempted to violence never imagining the nightmares that follow as you have described them " a gun in one hand and a phone in the other" scary. A fine piece of songwriting, I couldn't listen to it as SoundCloud was down.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: up until now

Like I said previously - that is Holy Sh** Awesome.

Wounded warriors program should have that as their theme song !
Send it to them Joe !!

Re: up until now

Next week I am playing  a festival for the CND   I hope it will be ok to cover this song as it says so much about the horrors of war

Re: up until now

Thanks for making it easier for me to hear this wonderful song by putting the link up again. Your guitar playing and the tone of your voice are top drawer, I could see you having a big hit on the country charts
