Topic: The Price I Have to Pay

This is just a song about missing the kids and reflecting on how much I missed due to work and other things that keep me away from all their various activities. I hope you all like it.

The Price I Have to Pay By Jeff Gilpin

[F] [G] [C] [G] [F] [G] [Am] [F] [G] [C] [G] [G7]

Verse 1

[C]I will try to make it if there’s [Am]time

[F]But you know I’ve got a lot to [C]do[G]

I [C]know that if I don’t it’s not a [Am]crime

But it [F]is to me if [G]I can’t see you [C]through

Chorus 1

So I’ll [Am]try

To make it [G]there

So long as [C]work doesn’t [G]get in the [Am]way

I am [F]sure

There’ll be some [G]price

I’ll have to [Am]pay

Verse 2

[C]I know that my job is not my [Am]life

It’s [F]just a means to give them what I [C]can[G]

So [C]missing things due to struggling and [Am]strife

Is [F]all for them I [G]hope they under[C]stand

Chorus 2

But I will [Am]try

To be [G]there

So long as [C]work doesn’t [G]keep me a[Am]way

I am [F]sure

There’ll be a hefty [G]price

I’ll have to [Am]pay

Bridge

[F]Now my kids are [G]all grown [C]up[G]

[F]Off paving their [G]own roads far from [Am]home

For [F]me life is [G]more like an empty [C]cup

God, I [G]wish I was with them, where [G7]ever they roam

Verse 3

[C]I called them both on the phone to[Am]day

And [F]both went straight to ear [C]mail[G]

I [C]wanted to see if they were both o[Am]kay

And to [F]let them know [G]I wished them [C]well

Chorus 3

I guess I’ll [Am]try

To call a[G]gain

Maybe a [C]little [G]later in the [Am]day

I see I’m [F]paying now

For all [G]my

Missing yester[Am]days

Hi Jeff - Amen, brother!  Very well said - I can echo your sentiments.  But you know, it is odd what kids remember.  Often, they will recall the seemingly most normal and unremarkable instance and cherish that moment fondly.  Another dandy song about real life - well done.  James

Re: The Price I Have to Pay

hi jets a great song but kids dont always value what we parents do for them and that we worry when they ar'nt near...

love is life ,life is for love, keep a true heart and live life to the full....stay cool

Re: The Price I Have to Pay

Nice one Jeff,

It plays and flows well, I enjoyed singing it.

My daughter is in the UK and I certainly enjoy our phone calls far better than the e-mails. Luckily though she is usually in when I ring. Mind you she is now 37 with 2 children of her own but I still worry about her and I still think of her as my little girl., and I suppose I always will.

Thank you,

Roger

Re: The Price I Have to Pay

Hey Guys - Thanks. The kids are not always away but they are quite often and it often makes me reflect on how I should have been more communicative with my parents.
