Topic: Frampton Comes Alive @ 50 Tribute song
I was listening to the radio n my car and heard Peter Frampton tell his story about how his mom had a chance to get a total scholarship to an acting school and her Mom said no- you will be a Secretary and support your family !!
When he was playing London gigs in his early days - his dad tried to squash it, but his mom stood her ground and said no - he gets to follow his dreams. I saw him perform at East Stroudsburg State College in (I think) 1974 or 75. in an auditorium, Few weeks later he was playing Cow Palace in San Francisco. This year is the 50th anniversary of Frampton Comes alive ! His use of the voice box ( he was not the first to use it) was awesome! Anyways , after listening to his interview - I wrote this tribute song. These are the lyrics: “Rock n’ Roll Sets Me Free”

Verse 1
Twelve years old with a beat in my chest
Cheap guitar, but I loved it the best
London streets, neon shining down
I heard salvation in that rebel sound
Dad said, “Son, that road’s too wild
Find a trade, work and save awhile”
But mama smiled, put her hand on me
Said, “Boy, your wings gotta fly for me...”
Pre-Chorus
She said, “I had dreams they stole away
Don’t you let yours fade...”
Chorus
Rock n’ roll sets me freeeeeeee
It always lets me be meeeeeee
I’m waiting for the world to seeeeeeee
That Rock n’ roll sets me freeeeeeee
Verse 2
Mama once had silver-screen eyes
Could’ve lit up the stage, every night
But her mama said, “That ain’t gonna be your way
Get a desk… get paid… do the family right
So she wore those dreams beneath her skin
Quiet fire burnin’ deep within
When she saw that same flame in me
She swore no chain would ever be...
Pre-Chorus
She said, “I lost mine long ago
But baby… let yours show...”
Chorus
Rock n’ roll sets me freeeeeeee
It always lets me be meeeeeee
I’m waiting for the world to seeeeeeee
That Rock n’ roll sets me freeeeeeee
Bridge
Some are born to build the walls
Some are born to hear the call
Some play safe, some take the fall
Some were born to give it all
You just gotta find the nerve to just believe...
Final Chorus (big)
Rock n’ roll sets me freeeeeeee
It always lets me be meeeeeee
No one’s gonna silence meeeeeee
’Cause Rock n’ roll sets me freeeeeeee
Outgo
Mama, you showed me the way
I hope you feel like I do
Mama , mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Mama, This is just for you
Your vision is not limited by what your eye can see, but what your mind can imagine.
Make your life count, and the world will be a better place because you tried.
