Topic: Helping Hand

I was just plucking around on the guitar tonight. I was remembering some of the bad times I had in the past that could have led me down to who knows where.  If it weren’t for my friends and family I would have never made it to the place I am today.  I hope you all like it.

Helping Hand By Jeff Gilpin

September 18th, 2007

[B] [A] [G] [D] [F] [C] [G] [B] [A] [G] [D] [A] [C] [A]

Verse 1

[G]Time and a[D]gain [G]I had [D]to [G]fall

[F]Time [C]and a[G]gain [F] [C] [G]

Thank [G]God I had [D]friends to [G]help through [D]it [G]all

Thank [F]God I [C]had [G]friends [F] [C] [G]

Because when I was [B]down

It got [A]pretty [G]rough

And I didn’t [B]want

To get [A]back [G]up

But thanks to some [D]well placed

Kicks in the [C]butt

I made it back [G]up

Verse 2

Sometimes [G]that’s what it [D]takes [G]to get [D]you [G]through

[F]That’s[C] what it [G]takes [F] [C] [G]

We[G] all make mis[D]takes and [G]I made [D]a [G]few

[F]Or [C]more mis[G]takes [F] [C] [G]

There was a [B]time

I thought[A] I was [G]done

Then a helping [B]hand

Sometimes [A]more than [G]one

Helped me to be [D]smart

When I had been [C]dumb

Now I'm far from [G]done

Bridge

Sometimes [B]on sleepless nights

I think [A]of [G]how it could have [D]gone

I [F]could have headed [C]down the path to des[G]pair

But I [B]chose another path

And I [A]don’t [G]think I got it [D]wrong

But it [A]wasn’t just my choice that [C]helped to led me [A]here

Verse 3

I know [G]who all to [D]thank now [G]I [D]made it this [G]far

[F]Who [C]all to [G]thank [F] [C] [G]

Those [G]who’ve seen me [D]through my [G]dar[D]kest [G]hour

[F]They [C]saw me [G]through [F] [C] [G]

Without their [B]help

I would [A]not be [G]here

Looking a[B]head

Not cowe[A]ring in [G]fear

Because of those [D]friend

Who helped me steer [C]clear

Are the ones I’ll always hold [G]dear[D]

Re: Helping Hand

Hi Jeff,

Love the sentiment of this song. It is great to people around you to lift and encourage when you are down. This is not the easiest of songs to play straight off so I think I will 'Badeye' and see if I can make a better job of it this time around.

Thank you,

Roger

Re: Helping Hand

Thanks guys and yes Roger it's kind of rough to play. So here is how I do it. The first and third lines of the verses are normal tempo but the second and fourth are slowed a bit with the lyrics and then sped up at the end with the FCG. I might have to record it to show you which is not a bad idea since it has been a while. Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

Hi Jeff,

That is prettty much how I played it the third time round but it would be great to hear you perform it so please record it.

Re: Helping Hand

Hi jets
I like this song. A bit of a challenge to play. I always like the chord progression of F C G just something about it.
