Topic: Old Doll

Hi all, I was watching the rugby and enjoying a few glasses of red and came in at half time half cut and rashly told Old Doll that I'd write her a song.  Here it is, I hope you like it and if the gaelic is wrong either spelling or pronunciation then I apologise... It sounded real good in my head!  cool

Old DollWords/Music Bonedaddy 21/10/2007

[Am]Over in the [E]Emerald Isle

Where [G]shamrocks grow so [D]wild

There [Am]lives a lady, [E]sweet and fair

With [F]words so wise and [C]mild

She [Bm]lives on Chordie

She [D]loves the Craic

She [F]writes to me

So I’m [E]writing back

The [Am]lines of laughter [E]crease my skin

As I [G]read her latest [D]lines

I [Am]see her eyes all [E]shining

From her [F]love of speech and [C]rhymes

She [Bm]lives on Chordie

She [D]loves the Craic

She [F]writes to me

So I’m [E]writing back

This [Am]sweet Colleen from [E]Ireland green

[G]Brightens up my [D]day

She’s [Am]our roisin, and [E]we’re all keen

For [F]what she has to [C]say

She [Bm]lives on Chordie

She [D]loves the Craic

She [F]writes to me

So I’m [E]writing back

He-[Am]lena, doll for-[E]give my foray

[G]Over to far Dun [D]Laoghaire

I [Am]love your words, they [E]make me smile

Of [F]them I’ll never [C]weary

This is my second time to be honoured here, you all have me spoiled rotten.

I could explain why i spend so much time here, but its to personal for a forum!
After seeing all the postings i did make YIKES! i will stick to the Songwriting section in future.

Now you have to record this Bonedaddy? No pressure now TEEHEE.

Southpaw41l,

CRÃ IC is a word that nearly gets all the Irish in America on holidays
locked up. Its the gaelic word for fun. Its used here abundantly.

Ie. Hows the cráic,{ Whats happening?

The Cráic was mighty,{ Great Fun Night,

There mighty Cráic, {That person is great Fun. and so on.

Its used a lot here in everyday language.

Indeed we also have the other kind! in abundance also.

Re: Old Doll

Thanks people, it's a pleasure!  I scare myself sometimes with how badly I sing and play so wouldn't want to spoil it by recording - perhaps one of you could do the honours?

Re: Old Doll

Ah Bonedaddy,
and there was i thinking you could sing like "Bryan Adams".

I do know someone who will record it for me, actually a few!

Would love to know what your melody sounds like?

Re: Old Doll

Why on earth would I want to sing like Bryan Adams?

As for the melody, close your eyes, take a deep breath, let it out and listen for the wail of the banshee in the lonely peat bog!

Just kidding, the melody was pretty much as the chords were written as I'm not too confident, creative or musical enough to be flashy

Ahem, Americans! still trying to catch up there lost sleep, but they are having a ball.

Had some nice Red Wines, i could recommend? but that could lead to an opera!

Now if you can write like that! you have more music ability then i have, with all your fancy chords.
Ive just finished a song i started 2 days ago, about an american Man who has
taken a shine to me.{ Im gettin married in the morninn"} dont think so!!

Re: Old Doll

Haha

about that opera... nope, not tipsy any more!

Did you know that scientists have discovered a food that removes the sex drive?  It's called "wedding cake"  cool

I'm off to Nashville now, guitar in hand - probably should learn to play those fancy chords first though, didn't realise there were so many!

I'd love to see/hear the American Man song, I bet it kicks my paltry offering into touch!

Summer of '69, I have the 'Reckless' Album but never listen to it any more.  Perhaps I should as it does sound great after all this time!

To much wine... yes!
Too much wine... not possible tongue
