Topic: Stranger- A western ballad I need some help with...

Okay here's the lyrycs, its kind of like something they would play in between scenes in a western movie, which is why I wrote it in 'parts'.
For now you can play it with a very basic E,A,E,B,E type pattern, but I was hoping to get some advice on how to use chords to give it a more haunting quality. Any suggestions (especially from James or Old Doll or someone) would be really helpful.

PART ONE

He was a drifter with no name
Born to rob them trains
He was the quickest quickdraw in the west
He liked his whiskey strong
And he sang a cowboy song
And leavin' town's what he done best

He'd drift into town
Find a woman to lay down
Drink too much and raise all kinds of hell
I have heard it told
That the drifter sold his soul
Hard to believe he had a soul to sell

BRIDGE 1

What did you say your name was stranger?
Who was it who give you them scars?
You're runnin' as if hell was right behind you,
Remember you can only run so far

PART TWO

He had sharp eyes of green
A smile wicked and mean
You could smell the liquor on his breath
He kept a ace tucked up his sleeve
He knew how to cheat and thieve
They say he'd even managed to cheat death

But one day he met a man
With a pistol in his hand
He said my name is Johhny Lee
Now you probly don't recall
But I watched my woman fall
And your the man who took her from me

BRIDGE 2
Now you've had a real good run Stranger,
But you can run away from hell for just so long
The devil don't give up that easy stranger
Your gonna have to face what you done wrong

PART THREE

They layed him in the ground
Under a tree outside of town
But nobody called the preacher man to pray
Weren't no cross above his head
No stone to mark the dead
And it rained all night and half the day

When the rainin' was all done
They heard somebody fire a gun
They found Johnny Layin' in a pool of blood
But aint nobody seen
The man with eyes of green
And he hadn't left no footprints in the mud

The devil must have somethin' on you Stranger
You've got a hollow look around the eyes
You're runnin' as if hell was right behind you
And you've only got until the end of time

Hi Rebel,

Minor chords can give the effect you are looking for so you could try something like this:

[Am]He was a drifter [Em]with no name
[Am]Born to rob them [Em]trains
[F]He was the quickest quick[C]draw in the west
He [F]liked his whiskey [G]strong
[Am]And he sang a cowboy [G]song
And [F]leavin' town's [G]what he done [C]best  [G]

A full bar for each chord except on the last line which is half a bar for each chord.

I like that idea Roger, Im leaving for a week this morning but I'll work on it when I get back. Sounds good though smile
daddy cool, I'm thinking it needs a Johnny Cashish type intro which could use some string bendin.
