Topic: Songwriters Circle

Hi Everyone
I'm creating this form for anyone that would like to share their orginal songs.

Here is one of my songs:

LOSING CONTROL Keith Wiseman

[D]I've been so drunk and so stoned that I couldn't [G]see

[C]Lived through some things in my [G]life that I hardly be[D]lieve

I've had some dark times but the one bright light in my [G]life

[C]Just packed her belongings and [G]turned and walked out in the [D]night

CHORUS:

[A]Baby don't go don't you [G]know that I need you [D]so

[A]You are my rock and my [G]anchor when troubles [D]blow

[C]I'm here alone with a [G]bottle and losing con[D]trol

[C]I'm here alone with a [G]bottle and losing con[D]trol

Well I've been through hell and it ain't a nice place to be

Been at the end of my rope and you rescued me

I've made a fool of myself more times than I know

You gave me reason to quit but I had no control

CHORUS

So I pour another and smoke my last cigarette

My mind's in an haze but I just can't seem to forget

I promised I'd change but I guess I was just a fool

Now I'm here alone with a bottle and losing control

CHORUS

Re: Songwriters Circle

I will be posting the chords some time over the weekend.

Re: Songwriters Circle

Very interesting chord progression. Sure would like to hear a recording of that song.

Re: Songwriters Circle

unfortunately i dont have the stuff to

record. too expensive. im saving up but first im

gonna get a good electric and an amp.

maybe someday i can afford some recording stuff.

Re: Songwriters Circle

I did my recording with a free program I found on line called multitrackstudio lite. You should be able to find it if you google it. Its the free version of the pay version. It allows you to only use three tracks at a time. What you have to do is bounce the tracks to get more.

All I do is plug my acoustic electric and mic into my sound card and do the mixing within the program. It's real easy to use and I find does a decent job.

For the drums I use a free program called leafDrums 2. With a little practice this is also an easy program to use. Once you lay your drum track save it as a wave file bring it into multitrack and lay the rest of your tracks.

Takes a little practice but a very afforadable and easy way to record your music.

Re: Songwriters Circle

thanks ill try it

first i have to get a cable for my guitar

then of course ill need a mike(borrow from neighboir)

then ill have to find out where to plug it in(looking for help from someone here)

Re: Songwriters Circle

This song came to me after reading a story about the majestic ruins of Whitby Abbey in Northern Yorkshire, England which are believed to be alive with ghosts. As legend goes Saint Hilda during her tenure as abbess was well known for riding the district of snakes. which ment she would chase them to the edge of the cliff and decapitate them with her whip. her ghost has been seen riding a hearse like coach pulled by four headless horses which plunge over the cliff. The second ghost is of a young nun named Constance de Beverly who fell for a false young knight. Her punishment was to be bricked up alive in a dungeon in Whitby Abbey. Her ghost has been seen on a winding stairway begging for release.

After reading this story I thought what a great song it would make. So I grabbed my guitar sat down and wrote the entire song in 45 minutes. It was one of those rare times when a song just seems to write itself. Hope you enjoy it.

The Restless Souls Of Whitby Abbey Keith Wiseman

[Am]Saint Hilda she [G]was a wicked [Am]lady

Well known for riding the [G]district of [Am]snakes

She'd [C]drive them to the [G]edge

Of the [F]cliff and crack her [Am]whip

De[G]capitate the [Em]snakes till all were [Am]dead

Now her soul roams the grounds of Whitby Abbey

In a hearse like coach she rides into the night

Pulled by headless horses

Along the edge she goes

Plunging over the cliff to the sea below

A young nun named Constance de Beverly

Broke her sacred vows for a false young knight

She was punished by her peers

Bricked up with all her fears

In a dungeon down below in Whitby Abbey

Now her soul roams the grounds in Whitby Abbey

On a winding stairway leading from below

Begging for release

From a soul that never sleeps

Forever damned to roam in Whitby Abbey

These are the restless souls of Whitby Abbey

Built in six five seven A.D.

On a cliff she stood erect

And overlooked the sea

Now the ruines are alive with the ghosts of Whitby Abbey

These are the restless souls of Whitby Abbey

Re: Songwriters Circle

Have you looked on e-bay? You can buy a 4 track tape recorder for about

Re: Songwriters Circle

An interesting song, well done.I notice that both of your posts are sung in what I would call a ''country'' style.I'd be interested to play ''Whitby'' slightly more up tempo and a bit folksy?.....

Keep them coming,it's good to hear what other folks are writing.

Re: Songwriters Circle

Thanks for your comments. I will be posting more later.

He asks if I'v ever been heartbroken

I assume he means romantically

I asnswer no

He wonders what went wrong

I see it in his eyes

His opinion of me changing

Maybe, who knows

Twenty questions follow

I answer each one truthfully

He wonders how all this has happened at age eighteen

I guess it may seem cynical maybe a little harsh

But I long ago left the land of fairytales in the dust

Not far from my start

No, white horses and shining armour do not ring true to me

Yea it's complex let me break it down for ya'll

See here's what I believe

Ok so romance and butterflies

Your basic chemical reaction

So we tend to get high on this

As we now use a little of our brains

A mere fraction

We choose to ignore the facts

And on all reasoning turn our backs

Forget the hidden humaness

We begin to adore

And are blinded to the flaw

Ah such bliss

Dissillusionment settles like a think mist

We put them on pedelstal and mount them on walls

Yet we are suprised hen they hurt us and we fall

Expect to much when we walk on ceilings

The most dangerous love is to love completely

While we build castels in the sky we set them up to fail

Against this perfect model none can prevail

With great expectations come great dissapointment.

Re: Songwriters Circle

Maybe a links page would be good on chordie,

the 3 track recorder sounds like good kit, but the annoyance of bouncing the tracks reminds me of my old 4 track

Re: Songwriters Circle

Hey lexy, I thought your song was cool.

One thing about songwriting to remember is that sometimes people take crap words and with the proper melody and delivery have a great/memorable song. Other times they have awesome lyrics and with simple melodies do equally well. And, unfortunately, sometimes you can combine horrible rhymes with repugnant melodies and have smash hits.

But the most important thing is to allow yourself to create an expression of your spirit through music that is meaningful and true. And the second thing is that all of us outsiders will look at it and see opportunities for improvement ("tweaking" or "sanding" some lyrics, chords, style, or delivery). For example, the originator of this thread first posted a song that I thought was brilliant but was not as convinced when I heard his MP3. But a few lyric changes and a different melodic approach I thought could be a hit!!!

And above all, remember we all write songs to connect with ourselves and others on an emotional level and to share thoughts and experiences. So rock on!!! (Hey, sounds way better than saying "Folk On!!!")

Re: Songwriters Circle

You know I think it would be a cool thing to do if you just posted the lyrics and chords, and had people record their own version of the song using the provided chords and posted the results. I did it for both of your songs, Keith, and the first one actually turned out pretty close in the verses, but the second song is probably way off (the mp3 link is broken). I did it in more of a 'Live' style (Live is a canadian band).

Anyway, i think that would be a hoot, especially for the songwriter

Re: Songwriters Circle

I just noticed this old thread and see that it has been dormant for a while. It also includes some names that have not posted anything to the Songwriting forum recently.

It would be great to get the people who were active on this discussion back onto the board with new songs and ideas and general discussion. . .

Re: Songwriters Circle

Hello James,

I am out here and although I have not contributed to this thread previously thought I would throw this one in for comment after your request.

Each chord shown is one bar long except the F# & G before the chorus which are only half a bar each.

I am afraid to point out that the song did not win the lady in question's heart, but I tried. I am not sure whether it is my songwriting or wooing technique that need improving - perhaps both.
