Thanks, Southpaw...

I thought time started to go by faster when I got out of High School.

Having her has increased the speed of time exponentially.

Oldnewbie,
I have some friends who live in your neck of the woods. Do you know any Hancocks?( Mike, Buddy, or Michelle) I'm from the New River Valley ( VA,ie. Roanoke, Blacksburg, Pulaski) area originally, now reside on the west coast of Florida.

Re: Don't Hurry the Years

I can't recall any Hancocks at the moment... My wife was born and raised here, I'll ask her.

I'm an Ohio Buckeye by birth, Virginian by marriage.

I seem to remember a Ronnie Hancock, but can't remember from where...

Re: Don't Hurry the Years

You are the first person I have "met"!  Thanks!

I am enjoying Chordie so far, and look forward to meeting some of the other members.

Is there a "welcome to chordie" thread, or a "how the heck are you" thread or anything like that?

Re: Don't Hurry the Years

Hi Oldnewbie,

This is the second of your songs I have played this morning and I am so pleased I played them in this order. "Lonely Man" was such a sad number and what a contrast here with a very happy one. It's 25 years since daughter was 12 but she still is, and always will be, my little girl.

As suggested I fingerpicked (actually I did not need the suggestion as I tend to fingerpick all new songs I play) and was smiling all the way through. Thank you.

Re: Don't Hurry the Years

Well, after much help, and some consternation, I have recorded this song and posted it on my website!

Oldnewbie pats himself on the back

I hope you like it.  It isn't perfect, but I was pretty excited to be able to record again, and I kind of rushed it out there. When I get some better mics, I will repost it, but you should get the general idea.

Thanks for looking!

Hi Newbie,

ah your hooked all right! Just listened to your new adds. "Dont hurry the Years"

I love the melody to this one. Universal song that one is.

Can you put the lyrics up? James does this its so much easier and nicer to listen to with the words.

Get some sleep now, you'll have your self knackered. { Tired}. lol

Thanks, so much, for your kind words. (Yeah, I get a little impatient!)

Re: Don't Hurry the Years

Is that like wicker?

I envision a large (very large, for me!) hand-woven dried grass box.

Interesting.

I guess I'll have to start growing my hair out, and wear flip-flops!.

I need to get some of that stuff that makes you smell like dirt. What is that called?

Re: Don't Hurry the Years

Hi, as I am also a new member, [I've only posted two songs to date] so I'm pleased to meet ya.

Loved the song, my daughter is 25, and Iknow how you feel, one minute she's sucking her thumb, next she's off to have a daughter of her own, who is just 3 going on 25!!, just like her mother was.
As I tell all the youngsters I meet who have had kids; "ENJOY THEM NOW `COS BEFORE YOU CAN TURN AROUND THEIR ALL GROWN UP AND GONE"... Even though my daughter only lives 3 doors away, about 50 yards. I have 34 year old son in the next street, a 23 year old who is moving to a house just down the road, and the oldest is living in Australia, why cant the rest of them go too?

PS Try some reverb on the mike

Phill

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Don't Hurry the Years

Yeah, SouthPaw, that's it! Pe-chew-li; Pu-chiw-lea... dang it.  I'll get it
Do you have some beads I can borrow!? (I assume you have already picked out your wicker coffin? If not, I'm sure Old Doll knows someone!)

Thanks, Phil. I'm still fidgeting with my very modest set up. I'm going to shop for some mics this weekend. I think the software I am using has some reverb option, I will look into that. I recorded another one (Lonely Man) a while ago and used a little reverb on it. I like how that one sounds (much "bigger" sound, I think).

And despite your wanting them all to move, I'm sure it's nice to have them close by! You must have done something right with them. I know the first thing I wanted to do was move as far from my father as geographically possible! (Went to CA right out of boot camp!)

Re: Don't Hurry the Years

Hi oldnewbie
Had listen to your songs. Simple straight forward songs (mean't in a good way smile ) with excellent lyrics.
I empathise with "Don't Hurry the years" as I have a grown daughter myself. Where did all the years go?
I thought this website might help you pretty up your Myspace page http://www.pimp-my-profile.com/ lots of templates of a musical kind.
Thanks for leaving your comment on my page.
All the best
