Topic: Your band of the year.

Out of all the albums you have bought and groups you have seen Live, what one band really hit the spot for you?

For me, it was a close call between Kasabian and Kings Of Leon (the best band from the USA in many a year).  A very close one but Kings Of Leon took it at a pinch.

The Irish gave the bagpipes to the Scots as a joke, but the Scots haven't got the joke yet.

Mine would be either Jack Johnson or Newton Faulkner.

Bruce Springsteen.  I missed out on his music for a couple of decades but now when I listen to him he's awesome.  So many different styles, often on one album!

That's why I'm off to see him in May!

Re: Your band of the year.

I love Runrig, for that awsome celtic rock/folk blend.I saw them at Stirling castle in 2004(?) but sadly missed their Loch Ness concert lasy year. Being down in NZ makes a trip over there a wee bit costly.

I'm trying persuade them to a tour down under with some of their folky stablemates they gig with, but no luck yet.

Matt Anderson, just a few great blues guitarist from Atlantic
Canada that I had the seen in 2007. Gotta like the blues.

.... badeye.

Re: Your band of the year.

i think for music attmosphere and enjoyment the best ever gig I have attended has got to be stiff little finger for their 25th anniversary at barrowlands.

But close contenders would have to be ( as mentioned and often forgotten or never heard of) Runrig in the barrowlands in 1987 ( before they became very commercialised, when they sang a lot of gaelic song that know one knew what they were singing about but knew the words) just after they released " the cutter and the clan".

Also U" at the glasow secc in the late 80's.

and last but not least, every big contry gig I have been to. simply superb! timing, tightness, attmosphere, efverything about a big country concert gig was just fantastic.
BUT
BUT
BUT
as I have said somewhere before,
for the best sound, it has to go to John Prine in the royal concert hall in November last year.
that place really has a super duper sound system in there. it was not bouncing about with attmosphere but the sound blew me away.

I'm sure this place has great quality equipment but the voice and instruments coming through this great gear aint squat unless the sounds put through this top of the line equipment isn't genrated by master musicians. John Prine and anyone who has he privelege to stand along side him on stage are undoubtely masters of music.

Give everything but up.

Re: Your band of the year.

The best sound I've heard also goes to John Prine at the Redrocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. It is hard to describe it was like having a very good set of headphones on and I was in dreamland. I'll agree it had alot to do with the musicians but the sound was just as good as it gets without blowing you away with volume.
