Im looking for some sad songs without any weirdo chords

(bluegrass and folk) to old rock. Thank you all so very

much! <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

Re: Sad songs

One of my favorites is Freshman by The Verve, but a song that sounds great on twelve string is Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd

Re: Sad songs

fields of athenry is a good one for the 12 stringer, i play this song on 6 string, 12 string and the uke ( not all at the same time) and it sounds good on all.

or " everybody hurts" by REM, not good for picking on the 12 stringer but strumming on the 12 stringer for this song is excellent.

and some other ones :

massacre of glen coe -- scottish trad.

hurt   -- johnny cash

belfast 14 --- jake burns and the big wheel / jake burns

sam stone --- john prine

hope that helps a bit

ye get some that are cut out for the job and others just get by from pretending

Re: Sad songs

Here's a simple one by Tom T. Hall (covered by Leo Kottke) that is sad in an ironic sort of way:

<a href="http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.ultimate-guitar.com/print.php?what=tab&id=73359" target="_blank"> http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.u … tar.com/pr int.php?what=tab&id=73359</a>

The chordie index has quite a few Kottke tabs - something to aspire to, I guess.

Also, I recently posted a songbook of bitter ballads, most relatively simple. See the 'Golden Oldies' category and look for "Alas, My Love You've Done Me Wrong". You may find some delicious downers in there . . .

If you spend your life judging people, how will you ever have time to love them ♥

Re: Sad songs

In the 60's I had a twelve string and I thought that Gerry and the Pacemakers 'Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying' always sounded fantastic on it. The fullness of sound that the 12 string produces on the Cmaj7 and Fmaj7 cannot be matched with only 6 strings. It may not be the easiest of songs but is well worth the effort. (I have corrected the words and tab and added it to my song book if you want to learn it).

I hope you have as much pleasure from your 12er as I had. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">
