Re: Songwriters Circle

Most excellent song, rogerguppy! If this song didn't melt her heart, then that's her problem . . . It seems to be a very sincere and passionate expression of true love - but perhaps all she was looking for was hot monkey love!

Re: Songwriters Circle

The song might be for the wrong lady. Don't give up use this experience and feelings to write your next song. Don't be afraid to say what you feel, if your down say so.

Good luck.

Re: Songwriters Circle

Yep, "Hot Monkey Love" is definately the basis for a song. It's just an old expression that I had never really thought about . . . another obvious idea staring me right in the face.

So, give it a go everyone! See what comes to mind . . .

Roger - I just worked my way through your chord changes on "How I Love You". Very interesting progression - I really like the cycle. To my ears though it has a very funereal or solemn feel - perhaps the lady you wrote it for just got a little spooked!

Re: Songwriters Circle

Hi Everyone... It's nice to see this fourm become active again. So I decieded to post a new song.

A Vagabond And A Holy Cross Keith Wiseman

[Em]He pushed aside his tangled hair

[B7]And wiped away a tear

[C]Tired eyes be[D]hind an aging [Em]face

He hugged his bible to his chest

[B7]And said a silent prayer

[C]That he and only [D]God above could [Em]hear

CHORUS:

[G]This is the [D]story of

[Am]A Vagabond and an [Em]Holy cross

[G]Another victim [D]of socie[C]ty

[G]Once a man [D]of the cloth

[Am]He would preach the [Em]word of God

[G]Cast aside by [D]all humani[Em]ty

He walks among the down and out

And helps out where he can

But to you and me he's one of them

He speaks about the life he led

And all the souls he sent to him

His faith is stronger than it's ever been

CHORUS

CHORUS

Re: Songwriters Circle

I just posted a new song to a new thread in the forum. Check out "A Simple Exercise" . . .

Shytini - I liked your latest recording (A Vagabond and a Holy Cross). The recording was crystal clear (what did you use?). I want to know more about the guy. Maybe wondering about the back story is part of the allure of the song - but I am left suspended with not enough hints as to why and how.

Keep those creative juices flowing,

James

Re: Songwriters Circle

I like it, I say the best thing to dois structure it a bit. Try to get the rhyme and meter into it. Other than that I can definately see it. Good job!

P.S. I write my songs the same way. Ususallyit'sjust one endless thought withoutpunctuatuion or grammar or anything. You just got to polish it and make it look pretty

Re: Songwriters Circle

I use a program called MultiTrackStudio Lite. Its the free version to MultiTrackStudio. It limits you to 3 tracks. Real easy to use and I find it does a really nice job. I just plug my ovation directly into my sound card and record directly to the program. I use a 30 or 40 dollar Radio Shack mic for singing. Here is the link

Re: Songwriters Circle

and my new video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGwJGSEyf9E

a song I wrote 10 years ago to this month. A sad song and based on a true story.

the lyrics:

There's something wrong

you've been crying too long

I come around, I come around to keep you company

Ye sit next to the fire

and you cry yourself to sleep again

I hate to see you cry

So I put my arm around you

and say

CHORUS

time will pass and time will heal

time has got time to steal

time may not be your friend

but it's not all you got until tomorrow

I dont understand

Why you won't let me hold your hand

I try to give you comfort

But you dont want none today

If you ask me to leave you

do you think that I will say ok?

well I'm never going to leave you

and I think it'll be alright to stay

because

CHORUS X2

ye get some that are cut out for the job and others just get by from pretending

Re: Songwriters Circle

Hi Ken,

Just watched and enjoyed you new video. I will elaborate a little more on what I wrote on YouTube.

You have very cleverly crafted the video to your song and I only hope that time has at least softened if not healed the wounds of the one you wrote this for. I am sure that they took a lot of comfort from it at the time.

Well done

Roger

Re: Songwriters Circle

cheers roger.

Time has healed!! lol, but still.... blah blah. right yeah so

thanks for the comment, I got notice in my e mail that there was a comment on this video but when i went i couldnt see any comment. I tihnk youtube is playing up a bit today, probably since it is the weekend and it must be getting overloaded with new clips all the time.

took me a while to get thru all those pics, I am still experimenting when i can with videos.

My next mission is to have me singing in time with the music and have pics etc. It will take a while though.lol

I just noticed also that the sound on "time" was not as good when i recorded it today, I will have to see what i am doing wrong when mixing it down.

Re: Songwriters Circle

Very straight-from-the-heart Ken - great song and nice video! The lyric is so sincere - you truly captured a moment.

Re: Songwriters Circle

How are you doing Mr. James? Steve Boileau here from up Canada way. By the way, that structure you suggested for "Don't Try To Lay No Boogie-Woogie Music" has worked out just great! Can you help me out with something a little more on the business side of performing. How do I go about owning the songs that I have written. Is there a registry or patten that I go through? Any suggestions?

           Thanks--STEVE

                     (Johnny-V.)

Re: Songwriters Circle

HeyHo Steve - Someplace in the forum a while back there was a thread regarding copyright laws. Can't find it right now, but my understanding is that you 'own' a song as soon as it is created. At least, that is the American law - I'm sure that Canadian law is quite similar.

There is something called a 'poor man's patent' (or close to that) which is basically is when you put the song down on paper, put it in an envelope, and post it to yourself. You then keep the unopened letter with the postmarked date for future reference. Obviously, it would be good to note somewhere on the envelope exactly which song or songs are inside . . .

Sorry I can't find the thread right now, but it eludes me at present.

Re: Songwriters Circle

Thanks alot James,

I kinda figured as such. That is the way it used to be, but with "modern" times I wasn't quite sure. Thanks again!

Re: Songwriters Circle

You need an adapter that will accept a 1/4 guitar cable and has a 2.5mm plug on the other end. You need to be able to plug your guitar into your computer sound card. You should be able to find one of these adapters at any Radio Shack ,electronics or guitar store.

Re: Songwriters Circle

Hello everyone,

Back in January I posted the words and chords to "How I Love You". Since then, with help and advise from James McCormick, I have re-vamped the lyrics, added an extra verse and put it on MySpace at URL:

http://www.myspace.com/rogerclive

The attachment is the revised words.

Re: Songwriters Circle

Hi Ho Roger - just listened to your latest version of 'How I Love You' and the revised lyric is an improvement - well done! What else are you working on - any other songs in the pipeline?

I have lately been quite enamoured of Paul Thorn's stuff

http://www.paulthorn.com/

His lyrics are simple yet profound and his tunes are superbly crafted, elegant gems. Makes me realize that most of what I have created is gravel . . . but I shall continue striving for gems.
