Topic: Adios Jerry Reed

I really like the way this man played the guitar. He was a funny actor as well. I dug his role in 'Smokey and The Bandit' with his long eared bassett hound 'Fred'. Very underrated guitar player in many circles. The dude could flat out tear it up on a Tele.........RIP Guitar Man

Re: Adios Jerry Reed

Yes Southpaw, Jerry Reed was one of those exceptional guitar players and sadly best remembered for his acting rather than his music.

If you can find some clips of Jerry guesting on the old Marty Robbins TV show they are well worth watching... he was a semi-regular, and their duets are outstanding!

He will be missed... God Bless.

Re: Adios Jerry Reed

He also did an album with Chet Atkins.  Real good.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Adios Jerry Reed

There are some great videos of him on Youtube,an excellent guitar player that seem to be very nonchalant about his skills,anyway he was fun to watch and listen to.

Re: Adios Jerry Reed

My personal favorite by Jerry is "She Got The Gold Mine and I Got The Shaft". After going through a divorce in a no-fault state (Florida) I could absolutely relate to the  inciteful words of the late, great Mr. Reed. A little snippet from the tune;
'While she's livin' like queen on alimony, I was workin' 2 shifts and eatin' bolgna(bah-lo-ney)'

Re: Adios Jerry Reed

My Dad played guitar and his Idol was Chet Atkins.Jerry Reed was also one of his favorites. The last 10 years I have really gotten in to guitar playing, I was too stubborn to take my dad's help and advice when he was alive.The more I watch Jerry I am amazed at his ease and style.I can really see why my dad was so into these two late great musicians.
