I was planning a trip over there in te next few years but  iwill have to wait and see. Would be going to Georgia and Alabama if I get over.

Ken

Well I'd enjoy meeting you too, but Georgia and Alabama are nowhere near Virginia.  You may as well still be in Scotland.  Unless you fly in and have a layover in Dulles International Airport.  In which case, we just need a time machine to take us back prior to the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks so that an unticketed passenger can get into the ticketed passenger area.  Then we could drink a pub dry while entertaining and/or annoying uptight business-men with their cute little wheelbarrows full of paperwork and trade journals they're kidding themselves about reading during the flight.

I did know that.  Ironically,  it used to be that the Kings were elected by the people, back when they were just tribal chieftains.   I think the rise of the Catholic church after the fall of Rome had much to do with the "divine right" notion so popular amongst todays monarchs.   There was a bit of a power sharing agreement between the monarchs, and the heads of the church.  That served them well, but the people not so much.

actually there wasnt to much power sharing at all back then the pope was a very secular being and would extort the hell out of who ever disagreed.  threaten to with hold baptisms last rights and the like or excumincate the leader and say who ever follows him wont get into heaven or whatever.

Well, no.   Papal authority through the dark ages was about as muddled as the authority of the Monarchs.   Popes and Bishops used to have hereditary lineage, too.   They needed each other to hold onto power.  There was a period of about 400 years where there were two popes, or no pope at all.  In those times, the pope wannabes would appeal to the Monarchs for support.  If you had a weak monarch, he could appeal to Papal authority to hold onto power.   Like I said, it was a handy power sharing agreement between the Monarch and the Papists.  They helped each other remain in power.   Martin Luther was the beginning of the end, and Henry the VIII was the stake in the heart of it, but even Henry called upon the Devine Right to rule.  He just started his own church and declared himself the head of it.

Re: Things We Hate...Or at least Dislike VERY MUCH!!

oh, I got somthing I hate, yes folk, I hate someone.
I think hate is a very strong word but I must say I really do HATE, DETEST the bouncer in the ABC on suchiehall street in glasgow.
I hate him so much I would not pee on him if he was on fire, iF he was stung by a jelly fish or if he needed the last t spoon of my urine to stop him dying of thirst.

Phew, glad I got that if my chest.

The wee turd threw me out " the alarm" concert last weekend before the band came on. I saw my mate's band " the red eyes" that were supporting the Alarm then I went to the toilet. I was a little bit sick in the toilet pan and flushed after me without making a mess. I was not even drunk. I ate a chinese meal not long before I went in and drank a pint of lager on top of that, I tihnk thats what made me sick?.
He heard me boking in the cubicle and asked if I was ok when i came out. I said I had been sick but felt much better, then he escorted me out the building saying for health and safety reasons I had to leave.
And he made sure I did leave!!

I have writeen to the BAC to complain and the papers, I have heard nothing back from either.

health and safety in the workplace says you are not suppose to wear jewellry yet he had his lip pierced, I was not even offered to see a first aider, instead I was told to get out the side door into the street.

there, thats why I hate him

Love to all ( apart from him)

I got another one;

You know when all of the cereal is gone and you tilt the box up with your mouth open trying to get all the contents of the box and then, KAPOWWW, the fine powdered goodies hit a snag and completely cover yer face and totally miss yer mouth. I really hate this...........

I hate it when I'm stuck in a traffic line up because of construction and they force two lanes into one. I get in line like most people only to watch a bunch of jerks driving right past me up to the yield sign and force their way in causing everyone to have a longer wait. I really hate that...

It riles me to no end when people sit down at a table directly in front of the stage where a musician is set to perform, when there are many other tables available for them to locate themselves, and complain about the volume of the music coming from said stage. It's like jumping in a swimming pool and complaing to the lifeguards about their swimsuits getting wet!!!!!!!!

And I too have one those ex's KAP54 speaks of. Everytime I hear one of these seagull birds squalkin', I'm reminded of her  (8-[    ..........

Uh-oh.  I suppose you prefer Ginger, too.

Well, I was playing trumpet back when the Brady Bunch was on, so I guess I wasn't a bass player then.

Something that I hate is getting some little tiny thing stuck in your sock.  No matter how hard you try, you can't find what keeps poking you in the foot when you walk.  You can't find it, but it's still there poking you with every step.  Grrrrr.  I hate that.

And Canadian nickles that I can't use in a vending machine in the US.  I'm sure in Canada they're right handy, but in the US the Canadian nickles aren't helpful.  Always seems to be nickles.  Never dimes or quarters.  I think maybe the Canadians have something against Jefferson.  How about one of the Canadians fessing up and letting me in on the secret.  Why do you sneak your nickles into my pocket?

OH! And ornery squirrels.  I think they're planning a takeover.  They make me nervous.
