Topic: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Its probably a bit too crap for nay of you guys to comment on, its my first one ive written so was wondering if i could get a bit of feedback?
[SONG]
{t:I'm Lost}
{st:by, Alex Scrimgeour 16/2/07}

Well as I [G]sit by the water and i look to the sky
I have a [D]smoke and drink a vodka Cos i want to get high
But then i [Am]think of all the times when i was holding your hand
But I'm [G]fine,yes i'm [D]fine

And as the [G]memory of your beauty passes through my head
I take a [D]long hard look at all the things that i said
And I re-[Am]member when I told you that i wished you were dead
I was [G]wrong, so [D]wrong

If I could [Am]turn back time well the you know that I would
I would [Em]change all the things ive said and done if i could
I'd [G]even tell you that i loved you and I wish you were here
But you're [D]gone,You're [Am]gone

Its been a [G]month and seven hours since you left me that day
I should have [D]seen it in your eyes when you were walking away
But [Am]how was i supposed to know that you would leave me that way
For [G]him, for [D]him

I want to [G]leave it in the past thats where i think it belongs
I need some [D]time to sit and think and try to right my wrongs
I'll [Am]go to jail for what I did to you that much is true
I dont [G]care, I dont [D]care

If you'd [Am]told me that you loved him I could understand
But the [Em]way it is right now I've got your blood on my hands
It was [G]me who pulled the trigger how d'ya think that I felt
When you [D]slumped,to the [Am]floor

Well I'm [G]gonna leave this letter right beside your grave
I feel [D]bad about my sins and 'bout the way I behaved
But [Am,]how can I repent for all the shit I've caused
I'm [G]lost,I'm [D]lost
I'm [Am]lost
[/SONG]

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Thanks alot to whoever sorted this for me <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy">

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Greetings Alex!  Your original posting was scrambled by some missing codes and commands.  So, since I really like your lyric, and since I am the moderator and I can do it - I took the liberty of re-posting your song with some changes that would make it show up correctly.

Perhaps I am over-stepping my rightful place, but I think you may like what I did with laying in the chords where they seemed to belong within your lyrics.  I also 'fixed' the coding.  In doing so I had to make a name for the song and I selected the last line since it seems to convey the overall message.

If my intrusion into your posting is upsetting, I apologize.  If my chord placement is way off, we can fix that.

The song posting coding requires a couple of little tricky details.  I'll help you with those if you let me know . . .

Again, my intentions are good here, so I hope you are not offended.

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Feel free to use it mate, maybe not that good bubt you could tweak it to your satisfaction.

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Alex - For a first song, this is wonderful (if a bit morbid).  Don't stop now - keep the ideas flowing and have some fun playing with your ideas.

Gather many ideas and work with them.  Do it a little every day.  Do it when you feel like it - and also do it when you don't feel like it!  Songwriting is like anything else, the more you practice the easier it becomes.

happi munki - if you want to write songs, then write songs!  There are always interesting things to write about - if nothing else write about how bored you are?

Don't be too worried about what other's may think or say.  Realize that often times critical people are just jealous - tell them that when they have created some songs you will be glad to entertain their opinions regarding your songs.

It is easy to be snide and belittle other people's stuff - it is much more difficult (and satisfying) to engage in the creative process.

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Thanks for those words James, youve given me alot to think about.

I was listening to a Johnny Cash song, I forget which one and he was talking about killing his wife for some weird reason, and i just decided to maybe elaborate as to what he might have been thinking lol

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

I have to agree with happi munki's expression wow is the right word especially as this is your first. Reading the thread I am also pleased that James McCormick sorted out your earlier problems with the formatting as I was able to just pick up my old guitar and sing your song. A little morbid it may be but the chords changes flowed nicely and the lyrical temp was good. I will finish by saying there is nothing crappy about it and keep them coming.

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

right!!

firstly

how does james know scrimpy is alex? ( yes  iam drunk and maybe missed scrimmpy signing this but i have looked 3 times and still cant see the name alex!!) lmao

pmsl

ok, alex/skimp,

You say you think we might think it is crap!!! not at all, anfd to tel lyou the truth right now, right here, I never read all of the song, but what is good is you have music to it, words and lyrixcs and made the effort to write it down, and obviousl yyou have a tune in your head for it, so whether anyone here thinks it is good or not is not an issue.

You have wrote a song, and hopefully you have wrote a song that you like and that is the biggest part of song writing,

( i have said this before, and will probably say it several time again)

As david Bowie says, if you write a song ans you like it then someone in the wolr dwill like it too. You will not be the only person in the world that likes your sonprobklem now is trying to find a few hundred thousand people to buy it to make money from it,.lol

I write a lot of songs, more than i post in hrere and that I post in youtube, some I like but I tihnk others wont like it so I dont bother posting anywhere ( yes!! I should listen to my own advice)

I will go back and read your full song now.

and someone  ( james or roger) said it was a bit morbid????? wtf???? nothing wrong with morbid songs, I am an extremely big gfan of pink flod and they have quite a few very successfull morbid songs ,lol

so if morbid songs is all you can write then carry on writitng exceleent morbid songsd.

lol

ffs, i could go on for another hour or so on this but i am wanting to go play pool online

so

bye

No way man!  There is a long and honored history in the blues and country music about shooting your old lady for messing around.

Hey Joe, where you going with that gun in your hand?

Miller's Cave has a two time murderer lost in it.

Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, Muddy Waters. They all wrote about it.

So should you!

So that's some fine company you're keeping.

I thought it was a great little tune.

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Well hopefully this is just the start, i would like to take this song further by having a proper guitar player (Unlike me i'm a fraud lol) play it and sing it, maybe then when I see what kind of sound I'm getting from someone who can play well then i can decide what my next steps will be.

Are there any forums which i'd be able to submit a song for someone to play and record by any chance?

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

How about make a video and post it on Youtube?  This site has a facility to do that.

I always think it's interesting to see how people interpret a song.  I'll often go to Rhapsody or iTunes and find as many different covers of a song as I can when I'm learning it, because I don't want to play someone else's version, I want to play my own version, and it helps to see what others have done.

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

Well i cant sing worth a feck for a start, and im a bit embarrassed to do it infront of my family lol

maybe i will though when i get them out the house,i could always get someone to sing it i suppose.......

Re: Could someone have a look at this song I wrote?

The only way to end the fear of sing and performing in front of people is to do it as much as possible.  You may screw up because you are nervous but don't stop playing.  Your family will always support you so play in front of them.

very good advice, keep doing it until your embarrassing period disapears.

I was very shy singing in front of people, even when i was singing in a band while playing bass, I thought I sounded stupid and looked daft, and maybe I did look and sound stupid but I really dont care.lol.

If you ever hear a song by syd barrett called "if it's in you" you will be suprised if not shocked at what people made money from.

I covered this song nearly exactly the way Syd sang it and what a great song it is.

click on the link then feel good about singing
