Topic: "With You" for Valentine's

This little tune uses a rhythmic pattern called 'hemiola'. The meter is 3/4, 3/4, 2/4 (or 6/8, 2/4) which gives it a lovely lilt and lift. I think she'll like it!
[SONG]
{t:With You}
{st:by, James McCormick, February 13, 2007}
{c:A Valentine's Lullaby Waltz Offering for my Goddess, Juawice.}
{c:In 6/8, 2/4 time (hemiola/dance rhythm)}

I have [C]gazed upon the silent stars, seen [G]rainbows arc so high
[F]Watched in awe as thunderstorms crash [C]lightning 'cross the [G]sky
I've ad-[C]mired hummingbirds in flight, been [G]awed by butterflies
But these [F]wondrous things can not compare to the [Dm]sparkle in your [G]eyes.
{soc}
With [F]you I have known beauty
With [C]you I have found joy
With [G]you I have my meaning
With [F]you I shall a-[G]bide
{eoc}
I have [C]known the pride of fatherhood, the [G]comfort of our home
The [F]primal scream of ecstasy when [C]we are all a-[G]lone
I have [C]learned that I am rarely right, but [G]hey that's OK too
For the [F]most important thing in life is [Dm]living life with [G]you
{soc}
With [F]you I have known laughter
With [C]you I have faced fears
With [G]you I have found solace
With [F]you I have shared [G]tears
{eoc}
I have [C]heard the pounding ocean surf, and [G]felt the surging tide
[F]Stood atop of soaring cliffs and [C]seen the sun a-[G]rise
I've [C]touched the stones of temples built be-[G]fore the dawn of time
But they [F]cannot match the power of your [Dm]spirit and fierce [G]pride
{soc}
With [F]you I have known passion
With [C]you I have learned strength
With [G]you I have been humbled
For [F]you I give my [G]thanks
With [F]you . . . .
With [C]you . . . .
With [G]you . . . .
For [F]you . . . . . . . A-[C]men

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

James,

superb mate!!!

forget what I said anout those other lyrics being the best you wote, this song is sellable.

I really think you should look into selling your songs. This has better lyrics than those manufactured groups.

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

in fact James,

so superb I am playing this, going to print it out and play it while away in my bothies.

I have changed it slightly, the chords, not lyrics. Near enough the same but i dont play a Dm, i am playing the verse the same al lthe way thru and the chorus has more chords. Not the way you probably play it,lol.

I will post this one on the net at the weekend if i get time so you can hear how i am doing it.

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

Beautiful song James, I bet your Goddess was ecstatic.

I wholeheartedly endorse Ken's comments and I am looking forward to him performing it.

As a point of interest James, how long have you been working on this song to have with such a polished and professional offering?

Roger

PS A little aside for Ken. What on earth are bothies?

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

Thanks Ken and Roger - This song started out to be something completely different (but so far another temporary dry hole). The lyric took a couple of days, but the meter and melodic line were sort of pre-existing from the original idea.

Do with it what you will . . . I shall enjoy hearing your able interpretation. My Goddess will hear it tomorrow morning!

Ken, sorry about the Dm, I just am in a bad 'key of C' habit, so too many F's and Dm's.

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

I just sang "With You" for my Valentine and it was very very well recieved. My goddess was well pleased with my love offering!

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

How could she be anything other than pleased. You should get breakfast in bed for at least week.

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

ok, I had a spare 3 hours today as I had a hangover and too ill to go out into the great big world ( apart from going to shop to get a set of new speakers, bead,milk and a plunger dont ask!!

so, with my spare 3 odd hours I made a new video and also recorded this song " WITH YOU" my way. ( not the song "my way" )

It never tooko long to upload at all but it is taking ages to get on the site, just liike my last one, but it will eventually get up.

if it does work then try later, it has not been showing it yet for the last hour.

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

Hey ho mighty plunger warrior! Just saw your 'With You" video and it's a great version - ya gotta love that ukulele instrumental break. Good job, Ken!

Rogerguppy's interpretation will be posted sometime soon - I've already heard it and it's also excellent. Two very unique interpretations of the same song - absolutely wonderful both of them.

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

thanks james,

I told roger, after watching it this morning I know I can do the guitar better, After 6 or 7 times I think I was getting annyoed with myself and laid down the first guitar I managed all the way thru.

Also the sound levels could have been better but this is harder to do for me. I dont normally have drums, this was about the 3rd time I have used my fruit loops6 program and exported it into guitar pro, so although not perfect , it helps me for later songs.

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

Hello everyone out there in Chordieland,

I have always said that give two musicians a set of chords and words and you will end up with two completely different songs. I spoke to Ken and James about this and we thought it would be fun to see what happened if Ken and I recorded one of James's songs. We have both recorded "With You" and the results are very different. Hear for yourself. Ken's is on YouTube with a cracking video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VzifUoDRqc

Mine is on MySpace, no video I'm afraid, just a 37 year old photo of my first wife:

I hope one day we will hear James's version of how he intended it but until then if anyone else wants to record their version of this song James, Ken and I would be very interested to hear it.

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

Brilliantly done, Roger. You and Ken have each created excellent interpretations of the song. It is amazing how people can take the same words and chords and make different music.

I'm hoping to buy a microphone soon - other things must take precedence in our household. Then, I shall offer my take on this song (as well as on others I have posted to the forum).

Thanks Roger and Thanks Ken . . .

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

yeah well done roger,

completely different from my version, yet the same song.

I now want an electric guitar with distortion and flange and chorus effects and an 18 piece drum kit and redo the whole song again

I bet I could turn it into a heavy rock song.

But I wont!!

Re: "With You" for Valentine's

Hey Ken, I put out the challenge perhaps a heavy metal fan will take it up and produce a rock version of With You. Only time will tell....
