Re: SONGS ABOUT CARS

What? No one mentioned the great Chuck Berry song "Maybelline" '....Cadillac rolling on a open road, couldn't nothing outrun my V-8 Ford....."

Speaking of songs about Trains (which are made up of cars) Justin Townes Earle's "Ghost of Virginia" is a fantastic song.

That is all.

Doesn't Alan Jackson have one about a Mercury or something?

The Mercury Blues - first recording I heard of it was by Steve Miller, but I don't know whether he wrote it.  I like Alan Jackson's version better, though.  Then again, I'm a country kind of guy.

Another I've remembered - David Wilcox' "Rusty Old American Dream" - great lyrics.  It's written from the car's perspective.

Let's not forget James Taylor's "**** the Traffic Jam"

And didn't both Aretha and John Mellencamp come out with different songs both titled "Pink Cadillac" at about the same time back in the 80's?   I wondered at the time if they had a contest to see who could come up with the better song with that title.  I cast my vote for John Mellencamp, as much as it pains me not to vote for Aretha for anything.

Re: SONGS ABOUT CARS

Johnny Cash had one (I think) something about stealing it piece by piece?

Then there was the JCB song...i know it's a digger, but it held up the cars on ther bypass.

Then possibly the worst of them all... Richie Kavenagh (Irish artist(?)) sang about a Morris Minor.

Re: SONGS ABOUT CARS

And while I think about it...Stephen King's Christine starts every chapter with a line from a song about cars...

And wasn't there some old toch song about some body trying to win a hot rod race so he could buy his girl a ring with the prize money?  He crashed and died..very cheerful!

My dad used to recite me this poem:
"Twas the night before Christmas and all through the garage,
not a creature was stirring, not even the Dodge.
The tires were hung on the wall boards with care,
with hopes that Saint Nicolas will fill them with air.

We pronounce it "Guf Coast".

"Car Talk" is a weekly National Public Radio show.  It is both informative and entertaining.

The show's hosts are brothers who own a service shop in Boston.  They offer car repair advice to callers, tell stories & goofy jokes, and generally have fun.

The show always has a song or two about cars.  Some of the songs are well known - many of them a bit more obscure.

You can see the songs they have used here:

Re: SONGS ABOUT CARS

Sheesh.  "Low Rider" by War.  I feel like a knucklehead not remembering that one.

Thanks for the link James.  One of the songs listed was by a band called "Too Much Fun".  I used to hear a bar band named "Too Much Fun".  I wonder if they're one and the same.  Their name was descriptive.  The band frequently was just too much fun.  I remember one time the trumpet player got up on the bar during a version of Tequila.  Then he walked down the length, walked across the floor, and right out the door.  He came back in the door, still playing, escorted by one of the town's finest.  Fortunately the policeman had a sense of humor, waved to the crowd, put his finger to his lips in the classic "shhhhhhh" symbol, and then walked back out.

Dang, I know what song you mean and it's dancing on the tip of my tongue,  one of the other lyrics goes, "I'll show him that a "cadillac" is not a car to scorn."  And the song ends with the little car that went beep beep beep, passing him calling out,

"Hey buddy can you tell me how to get out of second gear".
