James I have never seen the complete lyrics to that song and hadn't thought about it or heard it in many years. Thanks for this post, an immediate addition to my songbook!

hi pix
i'm a real beginner and i can't wait to have a go at some of the songs in your book.
when do you think it will be done

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

Hi topdown - I just noticed that another chordie use has very thoughtfully appended additional lyrics for 'Phht' in the comments below the version I edited!

This song is just pure goofiness and joy - it is a great campfire singalong since everybody can yowl and howl 'phht' away at the chorus.

For our non-American friends (or for those too young to remember this bit of silliness) here is a YouTube clip:

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

I've been learning a week and I am absolutely hooked!

I can play these 3 songs pretty well considering it's only been a few days so they must be pretty easy.

This one is Mad World by Tears for Fears, very easy and the chord changes lead into one and other.

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/?url= … ranspose=0

This is Knocking on heavens door, a bit harder but only 4 chords repeated the same order over and over, G, D, Am, G, D, C!

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/?url= … ranspose=0

This one is harder but still doable within a few weeks.  Go to Justinsgitar.com Youtube pages and theres a lesson for this song.  A bit more challenging

I hope this helps.

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

Hi.....I'm a total beginner.  This may sound like a mindless question, but, when playing a song using all chords, do I just strum continuously (while changing the chords), or do I strum according to how I think the song goes??

simply beautiful

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

I really wished there was a way of taking someones question out an unrellevant thread and creating a new thread)

Hi sunny skies and welcome to chordie.
PLease refrain from posting a question in an thread that is already open if your question is a new one. You can click on "new Topic" and create a new topic to ask your question. That way you are bound to get many more replies and help.

To answer your question though, there are strumming patterns i.e down down up down  etc.
The way I play when playing someone elses song is to know the song and strum it how I hear it. That is if I do not try and change the original a bit.
If you continue to strum while changing chords you might stum all open strings making the song sound wrong.
Once you get the rythum of the song you are playing it will come easily for you.

If you need any more help please just create a new topic and ask.
We are all here to help each other.

Hey Pix. Great idea and a daunting undertaking. Here are a couple suggestions almost anything by Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Marshall Tucker Band- Can't You See; Bob Seger- Night Moves; Willy Nelson- On the Road Again and Lynyrd Skynyrd- Sweet Home Alabama. Lots of luck compiling this book, can't wait to see it

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

Tops, I've got the majority of the listed songs in a book and it's around 50 of them. I've also got a list that I made (Somewhere) with other songs that I found and a bunch of the strumming patterns that I worked out for some of the songs.

Honestly, I had all but forgotten' about it, Since that point. I'll look around for my papers and see if I can't wrap it up this weekend! May not have the patterns posted with all the songs but I (or others wink) can add them after it's public. They're just a general guide but I've got around 30 of the songs figured out. It's really amazing how many use the same patterns when you sit and work them out. It's really all in the feel.

Man...Now I feel bad for forgetting about it... sad  Thanks for the friendly reminder wink -Pix

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

Looks like I found some bugs... Got 10 songs out of the last 15 that won't add to any books. Screen changes and all text becomes blue... Time to fill out reports... Why is it never easy smile

Hey man - I wasn't trying to pressure you buddy. I really was just bumping the thread to remove the offensive thread from the front page. wink

But it is good to see some progress, that sticky was getting old. Just posting a few tunes will be great! big_smile

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

Well as an absolute beginner... These are the songs that I am enjoying...

Jolene- Dolly Parton

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … 30154.html

Keeping the faith- Mary Chapin Carpenter (it says it is hard but if you know the song well it is easy... No tricky chords

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … 23837.html

Cold day in July- Dixie Chicks

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … 50703.html

My fave is Cold day in July cos it is beautiful to sing too!

It's funny how different we all are though because some of the songs in the easy folders I find really hard! My fingers do weird things with an F so I do cheat a bit on Cold day in July... It still souds fine though

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

Well I've got 70 good easy songs in the book now! It's been a job with all the errors and lost tabs I've come across...  I'll post it public tomorrow evening! It won't have all the patterns for the songs and one or 2 may still need some editing/correcting but I think it'll be close enough. I can fine tune it and add more after it's public and I receive some feedback on it. Maybe some others that recommended songs can add a few patterns for their songs as well. I've also added a youtube channel titled Ultimate Beginners Songbook Patterns were I've been recording some quick strumming patterns and samples to post with the songs for a quick visual/audio reference. It's going to take awhile to get all these made and uploaded though, so It'll be a work in progress after the book is public. Time is getting scarce with the work schedule I've had lately. But I'm staying focused on it smile-Pix

Re: The ultimate easy/beginner songbook! Chordie collaboration..

Well it's public! I think it's at 68 songs... I've got video with chords and patterns uploaded and attached for 8-9 of them already (nothing fancy) and will be doing more through the week. http://www.chordie.com/publicbooks.php? … gid=191936 If you have some songs that you feel would be a good addition please leave them here and I'll be happy to add them. There's a few that still need editing and converting to chordpro format but I'm working on getting those straightened out. For those that don't already know, the songs with video and patterns are listed on the front page in the "Video Tutorials" section.

I ran into bugs trying to add some songs and found some missing, so if you recommended a song and it's not in the book, I probably had trouble adding it and apologize. I have reoprted some of these to Per and hopefully they will be fixed soon.-Pix

Hey GuitarPix,

Just wanted you to know how much I'm sure we all appreciate the hard work you put into this, I know it has to be time consuming. It will really help me alot, as well as others, especially the ones with the strumming pattern's and video's, so thanks again. I think you should get voted "Chordie Member Of The Week"  you've certainly got my vote!
