Topic: Row Boys Just Row

A song of sailors getting their ship torpedoed from under them.

Row Boys Just RowUndefined

[F]See the [C]roses growing [Dm]in my [F]garden

[Bb]Catch the [C]sweet scent on the [Dm]summer breeze

[F]Lazy [C]days watching [Dm]clouds pass [F]by us

[Bb]High in the [F]sky it's a [C]perfect [F]day

[Am]Is that the sun singing

[Bb]What is that cloud bringing? SAME CHORDS FOR EACH VERSE

Hear the laughter of a hundred children

Feel their wonder as you watch them play

They never notice as the skies are darkening

Thunder rumbles and they run away

chorus

[F]Row [C]boys just [F]row-[Am]

[Bb]Although the [C]waves break [Dm]over the bow

[F]Row [C]boys just [F]row

[Bb]The storm is breaking

[C]Your arms are aching

[Dm]Your wives are calling

[Bb]And the [F]land is [C]oh so [F]near

So big as she lays at anchor

Hardly moving on the summer swell

So small out on the ocean

And then the enemy blows her to hell

And as she dies quickly

I feel my heart sinking

repeat chorus

At last the morning and the skies are clearing

We are saved but not all survive

We say a prayer for those that never made it

And thank the lord for saving our lives

And as the sea claims them

I hear them calling out

repeat chorus twice

Re: Row Boys Just Row

thanks to all,

my father was in the Royal Navy during the 2nd world war and fortunately [for me at least] survived!
he was on destroyers, though this song is about the supply convoys from across the pond and how they were sunk by U boats...it must have been truly nightmarish. the "row boys just row" line is how i imagine the skipper would encourage his crew to survive, think about rowing and not dwell on the storm...etc

thanks again
