Re: "Back When"

Hey James,

Nice - I tried the <b>A</b> a few diferent ways (<b>Am7</b>, <b>Asus</b>, <b>A7</b>...) and really each sounds good but different. My fav was going from <b>A</b> like your wrote it to an <b>Asus</b> or the other way around but it's good with just the <b>A</b> standing by itself as well.

Re: "Back When"

Hi James,

A different set of chords that works very well and I like this very much. I also tried it with Jeff's changes but I prefer it just as it is.

I am thinking pehaps I aught to record it and sent it to my first ex-wife. As we are now good friends and she is unwell at the moment she would in fact appreciate this song.

Re: "Back When"

Glad you like it, Roger - I was going for a very bleak sound and feel.  Jets60, your suggestions on alternative 'A' chords are all quite good . . .

Roger, Should you want to record it and share with your ex, that is dandy with me - have at it.

I may revisit this lyric and expand upon it eventually, but frankly by the time I got to the second verse I was just too bummed to continue.  A shallow guy like me can only bear so much emotional wallowing!

Re: "Back When"

Another great one. I wasn't sure how you wanted it to go so I did it in a kind of slow heavy Johnny Cash style.I think I will try recording it like that and backing it with some strings. I really like it a lot. Can't wait for the next one! <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_cool.gif" border=0 alt="Cool">

"Nobody paints by ear so why would I play guitar by sight?" hmm

Re: "Back When"

Yes - slow and heavy like a Johnny Cash gut wrencher is precisely what I had in mind for this song.  Glad you like it - please let me know when you get a recording made and posted.

I am finally going to be able to record soon - on a UPS truck somewhere there is a microphone that is destined to be mine.  I have checked the package tracking site about 400 times and just can't wait for it to arrive on Monday.  James
